He opened the door and got out of the car, popping the trunk to hand over his Smart Fishing Rod to the two of them. Neither of them had brought their own rods tonight, so they had to rely on Wang Ergou’s.
As they gathered, they looked for a Fishing Spot, each one eager to cast their lines. They were determined to take down the flag at Yi Shui Ku tonight! Letting others use his Smart Rod meant that any fish caught should count as his, right? Wang Ergou and Shui Bi Zhang weren’t entirely sure about this, but they couldn’t exactly ask Shi Tian! If they did, he might just fix it up right away! So tonight, they brought a few people along to stake their claim.
If this plan worked out, it would give them an extra card up their sleeves. If it didn’t, no big deal; after all, he and Shui Bi Zhang were already planning to go to Yi Shui Ku to fish for flags anyway. They might as well have a few more Fishing Buddies join them!
Holding the four-meter-long Hand Rod with a small Mi Si lure, Sailfish and Mahi Mahi felt a bit helpless. They were used to catching big fish weighing dozens or even hundreds of pounds while deep-sea fishing. Now, in the middle of the night, they were here trying to catch Little White Strips? What was the point?
However, looking at the lobster and Shui Bi Zhang, they still had to give some face. They would accompany them for a while and then find an excuse to slip away!
Most deep-sea anglers had started from freshwater fishing and gradually moved up. Touching the Hand Rod that hadn’t been used in years brought back some nostalgia for Sailfish and the others. Finding the right depth without Wang Ergou’s guidance felt so natural; they hadn’t lost their touch!
With tender corn as bait on a double hook, they cast gently into the water. Only a few luminous floats danced on the surface as they exchanged no words.
With a four-meter Rod, when the float bobbed and he lifted the rod, a carp weighing less than half a pound came up. The feeling was quite nice! They had to give enough face; it was best to keep fishing for a while longer!
There was none of the intense struggle found in deep-sea fishing here; instead, there was a leisurely solitude by the cold river. It seemed like they would have to come back to freshwater fishing more often; otherwise, their minds would be filled with nothing but muscle memories!
After securing the carp in their keeper, Wang Ergou quickly pulled out his phone and opened the Smart Rod Software. That little carp appeared on the list! He turned to Shui Bi Zhang and exchanged a knowing glance—this was working!
Carp, Grass Carp—one for you, one for me. From “let’s fish for a bit longer” to “let’s catch another one,” and then from “let’s catch another one” to “let’s fish for another hour,” as long as there was a bite, they kept extending their time.
After half an hour without any bites and only occasional yawns breaking the silence, he checked his phone—it was already past three! Time to pack it up; there was still tomorrow!
Stretching his back and rolling his neck, he realized how quickly time had flown by! He had been sitting there for over four hours!
“Brother Dog, it’s about time we head out!” he casually remarked before diving into the bushes—first things first: let’s relieve ourselves!
After a night of fishing, they had caught quite a few fish but were still far from taking down any flags; not one exceeded ten pounds, let alone twenty!
“Oh! It’s almost four!” It was indeed time to leave! Glancing at Xia Shou’s machine, Wang Ergou shook his head and walked over behind Shui Bi Zhang, giving him a gentle pat on the back. “You guys keep going; I’ll take these two back and come right back for Zao Kou!”
Once he finished relieving himself and turned around to pack up his Rod, he noticed it slowly slipping away from its holder—was it trying to run away?
“Rod!” he shouted as he jumped into the water after it, grabbing hold just in time. The commotion was certainly larger than expected!
Sailfish jumped into the water; everyone instantly perked up—what kind of fish could cause such a stir? With this kind of action, there wouldn’t be any bites for at least half an hour.
“Quickly!” shouted Sailfish as he spotted the Loss Prevention Rope surfacing. He pulled on the Rod as it drifted further from shore.
For now, catching fish wasn’t as important; they needed to get in the water and grab hold of him! Otherwise, if Sailfish got dragged into deeper waters by that fish—even with the Loss Prevention Rope—they wouldn’t be able to reach him!
As soon as the phone was out, Wang Ergou jumped into the water first, while Shui Bi Zhang hurriedly brought over the Loss Prevention Rope, tossing one end into Wang Ergou's hands. Tonight was all about catching big fish, and the Loss Prevention Rope had been prepared all night for this moment!
Pulling the rope, they swam over to the Sailfish, grabbing hold to stabilize themselves first. "Hurry up and attach the rope!" With the Loss Prevention Rope secured, they would be safe! Once steady, they dragged the Rod towards Wang Ergou. The first thing Sailfish said was that he needed the rope, causing Mahi Mahi on the shore to shake his head repeatedly—this guy was willing to risk it all for a fish!
With the rope attached, Sailfish had time to check it thoroughly, confirming it was secure before rushing back to shore. The first thing he did was grab the other end of the rope from Shui Bi Zhang. He had hooked this fish himself and wanted to haul it up personally! If it could pull a person underwater, it surely wasn't small!
The first surge of strength came from underwater, pulling him far out. Now that the fish was tiring a bit, he quickly reeled in the Rod to leave enough slack for another powerful pull. As the Rod reached the shore, Wang Ergou also climbed out of the water. Just as he was about to retrieve the Rod, Sailfish dove back in!
He grabbed the Rod with both hands; the water barely reached his knees, yet he didn’t seem to mind the cold! He lifted the Rod high and took two more steps into the water until it was just above his thighs before raising it fully.
Shaking his head at Sailfish standing in the water, Wang Ergou decided not to bother with him any longer. He quickly took off his clothes and wrung them out; otherwise, Xiao Feng would blow a breeze later and he would definitely catch a cold!
