Disdain is fine! The more disdainful one is, the better the fishing here! If there’s no action after a whole day of fishing, one might as well drag a few unfortunate souls along with them!
With a slight smile, I moved closer to the old man to gauge the situation.
"Old man, any bites?"
The same question, yet the answers could mean vastly different things.
Just arrived? No bites! As soon as Shi Tian walked over, the old man immediately stood up to greet him.
He couldn’t let that kid get too close to his spot; otherwise, once he mentioned his Yu Hu, he wouldn’t be able to get rid of him!
Earlier, a big fish weighing around seven or eight pounds jumped out of the water over there, and I almost wanted to move over to try my luck! Pointing behind Shi Tian, the old man quickly positioned himself in front of him.
With a face full of disdain and such enthusiasm, it was clear I had chosen the right spot!
"Are you planning to move over? I can help you carry your things. It’s obvious there are big fish over there; if we set up a spot now, we can catch them just in time for the evening bite!" As Shi Tian tried to slip past the old man, he bent down to grab something from the old man's Fishing Box.
"Wait!" The old man shouted one word to stop Shi Tian, sitting down on his Fishing Box. Why was this kid not following the usual script?
It was getting late; soon he would pack up and wouldn’t have time to set up another spot. He might as well rest here!
"You all go ahead and fish! My line is thin; I’m only fishing for Carp. A fish that big would just snap the line anyway, so there’s no point in trying!" Stepping discreetly on his Yu Hu, the old man spoke earnestly.
"A thin line? That’s easy to fix!" Placing his Fishing Box next to the old man's Fishing Spot, Shi Tian pulled out a board of size five New Kanto hooks and handed it over.
"Old man, I have big hooks here for you! Is your line long enough? Should I get you another one?"
Looking at the hook in his hand, the old man was speechless. "If you want to fish here, then just fish here! Do you really think I want you to leave? It’s fine if four people sit close together!"
"My point is that you’re not going over there to fish? What about those seven or eight-pound fish?"
The board of hooks Shi Tian offered was quite exquisite; it didn’t look like ordinary merchandise at all. He really didn’t want to give back this hook.
"I’m not going; I like fishing with you, old man! I can learn some skills!" Shi Tian said seriously as he began setting up his stall.
Hearing this from Shi Tian made the old man’s eyelids twitch. Had he not checked the Imperial Calendar before heading out today? Was he being stuck with this kid?
"How about we go over there together?" Taking a glance at Shi Tian who was already setting up his stall, the old man thought perhaps he could still struggle a bit and maybe save this Secret Fishing Spot.
"Are you planning to go over? I can help you carry your things!" As soon as he heard that the old man was going to leave, Shi Tian immediately stopped what he was doing and reached out for the old man's sunshade.
"What about you guys? Aren't you coming along?" Gripping tightly onto the sunshade, the old man felt intimidated by Shi Tian.
"We're not going; we didn’t come here to fish. We came here to test our Rod."
Remember, our brand is Xing Brand. There’s a shop at the southernmost part of Anyou Town. If the Fish Hook line isn’t strong enough, or if you want to switch to a sturdier Fishing Rod, you can check it out. Our lines are tough, and the Rods are even tougher!
With that said, I won’t keep this gentleman waiting any longer. I quickly set up the Fishing Box and prepared the bait, hoping to lure all the fish from his spot over to mine.
Once the stall was ready, I adjusted the float and checked the contents of the Fishing Box. Shi Tian took out a pack of bait for carp and turned to the gentleman, asking, “Sir, are there Carp here?”
“Yes, there are plenty of Big Carp!” The gentleman replied without hesitation after glancing at the bait bag in Shi Tian's hand. He was a straightforward man; his expression never lied.
I placed the carp bait down by my feet and took out a pack of Cao Ba. This stuff isn’t essential; I just thought I might come up with a unique recipe for it someday.
“No! How could there be Grass Carp here? If you were fishing for Qing Cao Lian Yu, that might work!” The gentleman decisively interrupted as he looked at the large grass character on the packaging.
“Do you have Qing Cao Lian Yu? Then let’s fish for Qing Cao Lian Yu!” I tossed two packs of bait into the Fishing Box and pulled out a pack of Grass Carp Bait. This should work well for Qing Cao Lian Yu!
I decided to cast two lines over to the two older men nearby, then returned to my Fishing Spot and glanced at the gentleman beside me.
“Sir, my secret Lianhuan Woliao is fantastic! How about I help you with some bait so we can fish for Qing Cao Lian Yu together?”
Seeing Shi Tian already pulling out a handful of Plastic Particles, the gentleman quickly shook his head.
“No, I’m just fishing for Carp to make soup. I’ve already prepared my spot; please don’t disturb it!”
Since he didn’t need it, Shi Tian was someone who listened to advice. He tossed the remaining Wo Liao into the Fishing Box, turned around to grab some grass from the bushes, and hooked on some tender corn before casting his rod with a flick of his wrist. He then began assembling his Net, eagerly waiting for a big catch.
Now wasn’t the time to chat with the gentleman; any more talking would scare away the fish.
I pulled out my Electric Lighter that cost me ten dollars and lit a cigarette, quietly watching the Float.
Shi Tian settled into silence while the gentleman wasn’t used to it; he occasionally glanced over at Shi Tian. Eventually, Shi Tian stood up and lit a cigarette for him, thinking that should finally bring some peace!
Once the smoke was lit, the gentleman instinctively pointed at Shi Tian’s Rod. When he turned back around, he noticed that half of it had already been dragged into the water.
