He casually mentioned it to a few caretakers; this wasn't his area of expertise. He was just there to feed the Finless Porpoises and satisfy his curiosity. Shi Tian, however, was already preparing to throw the food. They usually fed them around this time, as it maximized the chances of seeing the porpoises.
They loaded the fish onto the kayak, and the person responsible for feeding joined them on board. The water was shallow near the shore, posing a risk of running aground, and the Finless Porpoises preferred to stay away from humans and boats, hiding in deeper waters.
They decided to transport the fish to a deeper area. Once they poured a bucket of fish into the water, they returned to shore and waited for the porpoises to come for their buffet.
Watching the flowing river, he knew there must be big fish lurking beneath the surface. It was a pity that fishing wasn't allowed here; otherwise, he would have definitely cast a few lines!
The Finless Porpoises were silent while hunting. The feeding area was equipped with numerous underwater cameras to capture footage. Additionally, every few minutes, the porpoises had to surface for air, and high-definition cameras on a nearby tower could record some of their antics.
The three little creatures were quite low-key. If only they could be as lively as the Yangtze River street performers! Even if they got splashed with water, at least it would count as interaction.
After nearly half an hour, he noticed ripples on the surface of the river—those were the little ones surfacing for air, quickly gulping in oxygen before diving back down. As their appearances became less frequent, he realized it was time for them to finish eating. Shi Tian picked up another small fish and slapped it against the riverbank before tossing it into the water.
There were two possible outcomes from this action: one was that it might scare off the Finless Porpoises; however, that didn't seem likely. They would still cautiously approach for those delicious small fish—they wouldn't give up easily.
The other possibility was that the Finless Porpoises would catch this small fish, establishing a form of interaction. If they took their time and built up trust gradually, they would be closer to capturing a Finless Porpoise without harm.
The fish splashed into the water, creating a trajectory straight toward where the small fish had landed, catching the attention of several caretakers responsible for feeding.
It really took an expert! They had been racking their brains over how to gain the trust of the Finless Porpoises, but here came an expert who immediately provided them with direction!
If they continued using this method of tossing out small fish closer and closer each time, they would soon be able to touch a Finless Porpoise themselves!
After throwing several small fish, they reached their feeding quota for the day; any more would exceed their limit. Shi Tian stopped feeding, causing Star to leap halfway out of the water in protest. Unfortunately for Star, protesting was futile; if they wanted more small fish, they needed to line up earlier!
"Are we allowed to fish here?" Shi Tian asked as he gathered his things and turned to look at the caretakers.
"What do you think?" The caretakers exchanged glances filled with disbelief at Shi Tian's suggestion.
Not only was fishing prohibited, but even speaking too loudly was frowned upon. They treated these three little creatures like royalty; how could he even think about fishing right in front of them?
With an awkward smile, Shi Tian rubbed his nose. "I just wanted to check on the density of small fish in this area; I meant no offense."
"We have our own methods for that; you don’t need to worry about it!" One caretaker replied firmly. With that said, Shi Tian and Li Ziyu were escorted away from the riverbank under strict supervision.
"Keep an eye on that guy; I suspect he might try sneaking off to fish!" The feeding supervisor instructed his subordinates anxiously as he watched Shi Tian and Li Ziyu leave. "As long as Shi Tian is around, we can't let our guard down for a second!"
Shi Tian and Li Ziyu were both visiting Huanggang for the first time, and their impression of the place was solely encapsulated by the words "Secret Scroll."
The winter in Qichun was different from the desolate yellows of the north and the lush greens of Hainan. As the temperature dropped, many leaves still clung to the branches. In the evening, snow began to fall, blanketing the green leaves in a picturesque scene.
This was the hometown of Li Shizhen. Perhaps they could pay homage to him by reading a couple of pages from the Ben Cao Gang Mu during lunch!
After dinner, the two returned to their arranged accommodation. They flipped through the videos they had shot in the afternoon, particularly one clip where a star leapt out of the water, which Li Ziyu had edited separately.
"Tian Ge, this video has been edited. Should we post it?" Li Ziyu asked, pointing at the edited clip on the screen while accepting a cup of hot tea brewed by Shi Tian.
The camera on the tower by the river was live streaming twenty-four hours a day, and that clip had already appeared online. However, due to the clarity limitations of live streaming, high-definition footage had not yet been released. The demand for high-definition images was growing louder online, and it wouldn't be long before they were made available.
"Let's not rush it; let's wait until they release the video first! The day after tomorrow, we still need to feed the stars. After that, we can post it together."
Releasing the video now would definitely attract a lot of traffic. Although this traffic wouldn't be useful for them at the moment, it would only increase pressure on the officials.
"Xiao Yu, I want to register a trademark using the star's likeness. What do you think?" Shi Tian said with a smile as he gazed at the frame of the star leaping out of the water on screen.
There was still some room for maneuver here. It would be nearly impossible for others to register a trademark using the star's likeness; however, if Shi Tian were to do it, there might be room for negotiation.
"That might be difficult! Would they agree? Even if Old Kong intervenes, netizens might not accept it!" Li Ziyu turned to Shi Tian, feeling that his idea was somewhat crazy.
The star's popularity had been soaring over these past few days, with many fervent fans even traveling to Qichun. Although they couldn't catch a glimpse of the star by the river, just being close to it made them content.
If giant pandas could work, why shouldn't finless porpoises eat and drink? Registering its likeness as a trademark and using feed to pay for likeness rights was certainly negotiable!
"Just watch! I’ll use Xiao Yu to lure the star to the riverbank and personally negotiate with it. It will definitely agree!"
