"Three days without catching a single Tuna? Why didn't you contact me sooner? Come on, let's go Fishing for Big Fish!" With that, Pingtou Ge chuckled and asked, "Is there food?"
Pingtou Ge had his own troubles; the last time he brought Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell, he didn't hide the wine well enough, and someone tricked him into giving it away. He had been short on food for several days.
If only Wang Ergou had come earlier, these past couple of days wouldn't have been so tough!
"Speaking of food, I'll go find some!" With a grin, Wang Ergou turned and slipped into the cabin.
"Is Pingtou Ge looking for food? Or is he just thirsty? Nothing can quench thirst like a good drink!"
He directed the captain to steer into the night, occasionally stopping to observe the Ocean Current. After about twenty minutes, they reached the Fishing Spot.
A sip of twelve-degree water soothed his throat. He tossed a few pieces of dried fish into his mouth, fished a small fish from the Living Water Tank, hooked it onto his line, and cast it into the water. Everyone got busy.
Finding Tuna wasn't as simple as just remembering a Fishing Spot where fish could always be found. Different terrains, water conditions, weather, and seasons all made a significant difference in fishing success.
Take Bluefin Tuna for example; even in winter, encountering them in the South China Sea was rare due to the high water temperatures.
The chances of catching Bluefin Tuna domestically were quite low; one might not even catch a few dozen.
However, there were some over by Xiao Ri Zi. The warm currents of the Pacific Ocean flowed north along its eastern coast, bringing plenty of food. Bluefin Tuna chased after this food southward, and in April, many could be caught here, but they weren't usually very large—at most around two hundred pounds.
In the Southern Hemisphere, New Zealand had plenty of large Bluefin Tuna; fishing there should be quite good.
In the Northern Hemisphere, Bluefin Tuna could be found off the Atlantic West Coast; the further north you went, the larger they got. In places like Prince Edward Island in Canada, catches over a thousand pounds were possible.
Yellowfin Tuna were abundant here too; most people came specifically to catch them.
However, Yellowfin Tuna were considerably smaller than Bluefin Tuna; most were under a hundred pounds, though occasionally one would exceed that mark.
If they headed to Xisha or Nansha, they could catch Bigeye Tuna there; those fish tended to be larger. In Nansha, catches over two hundred pounds were still possible from time to time.
During this season, it was better to fish deeper; unlike before when they fished at ten or twenty meters deep, now they should aim for around ten meters! After reminding everyone of this, Pingtou Ge pulled out a small silver flask from his pocket and poured himself a drink of the twelve-degree water Wang Ergou had prepared.
This flask was a gift from Kang Ziyu—delicate and compact. Concerned about him drinking too much, she chose a smaller size that could only hold about two taels; just enough to satisfy his cravings.
Hearing Pingtou Ge's comment made everyone exchange glances—so they hadn't caught any Tuna in three days because they had been fishing too shallow!
They released their lines first at ten meters to see how it went; if that didn't work, they'd drop deeper!
As soon as the tip of Pingtou Ge's rod twitched, he lifted it to set the hook but frowned—this fish was rather small.
"What has Xiao Tian been up to lately? It's been a while since he last came by; I really miss him!"
Slowing down the speed of the Electric Reel was crucial; in such deep water, he needed to reel in slowly. If he pulled too fast, this fish wouldn’t survive.
As he reeled in the line, Pingtou Ge chatted casually with Wang Ergou. Pingtou Ge wasn’t really thinking about Shi Tian; he was more concerned about the promise Shi Tian had made to him regarding the rod. Back in Xisha, Shi Tian had promised to get him a Boat Rod when they returned, to be delivered by Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell. He also mentioned customizing a Hand Rod and an Iso Rod for him.
Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell had indeed come by, but all they brought were a few bottles of boiled water—nothing else. Surely that kid hadn’t forgotten about it! Recently, he hadn’t been in Sanya; he had gone to Xishuangbanna. A few days ago, he caught a big Catfish, a yellow one! It was called Mian Gua! Wang Ergou eyed the rod in Pingtou Ge’s hand with envy.
At this point, he couldn’t care less about the size of the fish; he just wanted to catch something to kick off his trip. He had spent tens of thousands on chartering a boat for fishing, and now three days had passed without catching any target fish. Where could he go to complain about that?
Wang Ergou had gone out to sea for lobsters more often than most; before knowing Shi Tian, he had fished in deep waters but always on a boat where they didn’t have to worry about finding fishing spots. If others weren’t catching fish, neither would they; occasionally catching one brought them joy.
However, after spending more time fishing with Shi Tian, they had gotten used to reeling in several Tuna each time. Suddenly going days without catching anything was hard for him to accept! Mian Gua? That guy really knew how to have fun! Why not catch a sweet melon instead?
Just as he finished that thought, a fish bit. It wasn’t even thirty pounds—a small Yellowfin Tuna. He quickly unhooked it and tossed it back into the sea. Go play in the ocean until you grow up and come back for the bait!
Shi Tian went to Xishuangbanna? He must have been taken there by Lu Ya and the others! Those rascals wandered around everywhere but never invited him along! Now that they were back in the country, they didn’t even come by for a drink with him. They probably wouldn’t remember him unless they were returning empty-handed from sea fishing and needed a couple of fish to save face!
Changing bait, Pingtou Ge tossed the hook back into the sea while considering whether he should remind Shi Tian not to forget their previous agreement.
Suddenly, Da Gui Wang shouted loudly, interrupting his train of thought.
What’s with all the fuss over catching a fish? Pingtou Ge grumbled under his breath at Da Gui Wang but decided not to rush things. He would wait until he returned home or even until Shi Ye went abroad before bringing it up.
With Shi Ye around, he didn’t dare assert himself as an older brother over Shi Tian. That kid wasn’t easy either; last time he had asked him to call him uncle, and Shi Tian held a grudge for days!
He had to catch a big fish today so that Wang Ergou could mention it in front of Shi Tian. If nothing big came up, they could head back to the platform where he still had plenty of fish stored away. He could ask Wang Ergou to take a few back for Shi Tian, just to remind him of their earlier agreement!
