He had never been to Xishuangbanna before! Where to go? They definitely wouldn't make it in time, so he needed to find a place to stay. First, he should ask a local for some information.
He took out his phone and booked a ride. The driver was surely a local who drove around every day and would know the area well. The Xishuangbanna District wasn't large, just a few kilometers in size, located along the west bank of the Lancang River.
The Banna Airport Area was convenient, only about ten minutes by car. With such a short distance, they would even pass by the High-Speed Rail station. The railway extended south from there, and in less than two hundred kilometers, they would reach Lao Country.
As the car arrived, Shi Tian opened the front passenger door and was about to climb in. "No! Please take the back seat; it's more spacious!" Seeing Shi Tian heading for the front seat, the driver quickly apologized and stopped him.
Not allowed to sit in the front? A glance at the center console revealed the words "Wife's Seat" prominently displayed. This driver must be sneaking out to earn some extra cash!
They exchanged knowing smiles, and Shi Tian closed the front door and slid into the back seat. "Brother, can this car run as a dedicated vehicle now? Why are you still taking regular rides?"
Dedicated vehicles charge higher fees and have specific requirements; only cars worth around two hundred thousand could qualify. Shi Tian's car certainly met that standard, so wasn't it a bit of a waste to use it for regular rides?
"There's not much work for dedicated vehicles; rides are scarce. I'm not a full-time driver; I just do this on weekends. Since I'm free at home, I might as well earn some pocket money!" After Shi Tian replied, they drove out of the airport.
Running a dedicated vehicle isn't easy; there are many requirements. Drivers must help passengers with their luggage, open and close doors, wear uniforms, keep the car free of clutter and odors, and even avoid visible tattoos or scars. They also need to learn business etiquette.
By the end of it all, it felt like being treated like a servant, and the pay wasn't much better—only four yuan per kilometer. It hardly seemed worth it to endure so many restrictions just for some extra cash.
Time was limited; he couldn't waste it on useless chatter! "Brother, do you know any good fishing spots in Xishuangbanna? Time is short," Shi Tian said quickly, eager to gather information about his upcoming battlefield.
Asking about tourist attractions? Shi Tian wasn't interested in that. What was so fun about tourist spots? Once Air Force arrived, he could let them take him around and save some money.
He chose a destination by the Lancang River near Ban Na Bridge; from there, it would be easy to go anywhere. "Fishing? You like fishing too? Are you into Ye Diao or Heikeng?"
"Ye Diao; I don't do Heikeng—there's no skill involved!" Initially worried that this non-professional ride-hailing driver might not be familiar with Xishuangbanna, Shi Tian felt relieved when he heard him speak; perhaps this driver was actually a fisherman!
"Ye Diao? If you're going there, Liushahu is a no-fishing zone. You can fish downstream from Liushahu or upstream from the power station. There was a big catch yesterday—a twenty-eight-pound Big Carp! Want to check it out?"
A twenty-eight-pound Big Carp wasn't bad at all; encountering such a large wild fish was rare. Without Wo Liao's assistance, running into something like that once every few months would be considered lucky.
"Is there a lot of fishermen over there? If there are many people, let's go take a look." Upon hearing that someone had caught a twenty-eight-pound Big Carp, Shi Tian instantly became interested.
The variety of fish in Xishuangbanna is richer, with many unique species, especially in the flowing rivers and the Lancang River where the Lotus Carp are stunningly beautiful!
The size of the fish is secondary; the key factor is how many people are around. As long as there are plenty of fishermen, we definitely need to check it out.
There must be a lot! If big fish are being caught, how could there not be people? Are we going right now? Did you bring your rod?
Shi Tian hadn’t brought much—just a small tote bag with a few changes of clothes. He didn’t even have a suitcase, so it was impossible for him to have any fishing gear.
"My rod won’t be ready until the day after tomorrow. I’ll just go check the spot first. Once I have my rod, I can start fishing right away. Should I change the location?"
The car pulled over to the side of the road. The Driver Brother pointed out where to adjust the location, and then pressed the accelerator. The speed to see the fishing spot was much faster than before.

On weekends, he drove for ride-sharing services under the guise of fishing, just to earn some extra income to improve his gear. His actual fishing time was during weekdays, from Monday to Friday.
He would leave half an hour early in the mornings just to get in a couple of casts. Every evening he worked overtime, depending on how well the fish were biting. The only regret was that he couldn’t take any fish home; he could only show off by the riverbank.
