"Is there Carp? That's great! I've just started fishing not long ago, and I haven't caught anything for quite a while! I'll fish next to you for a bit, maybe I can learn something from you!"
With that, Old Kong carried his Ma Zha and walked about ten meters upstream towards Carp Master, ready to find the bottom.
This was the experience they had summarized over the past half month: fishing in still water, using Wo Liao to attract fish within a ten-meter radius. In flowing water, they needed to bait upstream; fish would come from two or three dozen meters downstream, effectively keeping the four Fisherman quiet!
"Your rod is a bit long; you should get a rod holder. Otherwise, your arms will get tired holding it for too long!" Old Wen kindly reminded him. Just then, Carp Master raised his hand and cast his rod, catching a little over a pound of Little Carp.
The fish was generous, allowing him to show off in front of Old Man Kong. Seeing the envy in Old Man Kong's eyes, he decided to treat it well when he brought it home that night—no spicy hot pot this time; he'd make it braised instead!
"I bought it; my grandson got it for me, but it hasn't arrived yet!" replied Carp Master. Old Kong tossed some Carp Bait into the water. "I'll leave the Carp to you. Didn't you say you only caught a few? Now you can catch as many as you want!"
After finishing with the Wo Liao, he hooked on some Plastic Particles and cast his line. As a beginner, he needed to embrace his new status; after baiting the spot, he had to cast quickly to look like a proper novice!
After baiting with Wo Liao, he had to wait before casting again; otherwise, there would just be pesky Xiao Yu messing around! Carp Master was still very considerate towards beginners. After reminding him, he asked, "What kind of Wo Liao are you using? Plastic Particles? You need to wait a bit longer with those; at least half an hour!"
After baiting the spot, one had to wait before casting again—a process known as "letting the spot settle." Depending on the fish activity and type of Wo Liao, the waiting time varied. If it was foggy, the waiting time was shorter; if using regular Plastic Particles, they needed about ten minutes to dissolve properly—at least half an hour was best before starting to fish.
Letting the spot settle had its benefits; it could attract more fish competing for food. If there was only one big fish in the area, it would be cautious. But if there were two or three big ones, they wouldn't have time to be careful—whoever grabbed first would get it! This was when one should drop their hook; they would bite eagerly!
Just regular Plastic Particles, used for feeding pigs—he bought a whole bag; that should be enough! He casually replied to Carp Master, and Old Kong obediently reeled in his rod and lit a cigarette, deciding to wait a while longer.
Before he finished his cigarette, Old Liu came running over. Although they were each fishing their own spots—scouting out their chosen locations and strategizing—their distances were only a few dozen meters apart.
"Old Kong, do you have any more Plastic Particles? There are some Carp over there, and I've run out of my Plastic Particles!"
Recently, they had been busy fishing; their supply of Wo Liao was depleting quickly. Besides a pile of useless bait in the car, everything else was evenly distributed. Though Old Liu had been using more bait and catching plenty of fish, his stock of Wo Liao was also dwindling fast—it was flashing red!
"I don't have much left either; I'll have my Great-Grandson help me get some more later!" He pulled out a handful of Wo Liao and handed it to Old Liu. Now, Old Kong was considering whether he should make a trip back to Sanya for more supplies!
Since there were both Grass Carp and Carp Bait over at Shi Tian, there should be other types of bait available too! If he called him up and asked him to send some over, it would probably just be these same things again. It might be better to head back to Sanya, stay for a couple of days, dig into what’s available at Shi Tian, and then come back out!
He needed more than this little bit of Plastic Particles! It wouldn't last long if he fished for several days! After replying to Old Kong, Old Liu took off with that handful of bait. Over at their spot, their fishing buddies were reeling in one fish after another—if they didn't hurry up and bait their spots again, all the fish would be gone!
After about ten minutes, the effects of the bait began to show. Old Kong entered into continuous-catch mode while nearby, Carp Master obediently soaked up some sun.
As another Carp came up on his line, he glanced sideways at it—small—and soon spoke up!
Another small Carp came up; hiding on the side again, he thought about how easy this was for beginners!
Yet another small one came up; now even Carp Master felt uncomfortable—where were all the fish in his spot? Had they all gone over there for part-time work?
This time he pulled up another small Carp, unhooked it, and tossed it back into the river. "Not dealing with any more Carp today; I'll come back another day!" He had already had enough of drinking that pesky soup!
"Hey buddy, your Plastic Particles are really something! Can I try a few?" Now even Carp Master couldn't sit still anymore; there were no fish left in his spot—he had cast his line over ten times without any bites!
As Carp Master approached, Old Kong couldn't help but feel proud, having just caught another fish, bringing his tally to one! It probably had nothing to do with the Plastic Particles; it must be the Newbie Aura at play! My grandson often mentions this term, and it seems to be quite effective!
After counting out a dozen Plastic Particles for Brother Carp, Old Kong cheerfully remarked, "The fish in this wild river haven't seen much. They can't handle good bait; simple fare is more to their taste. I'll just swing by a Feed Store and grab a couple of pounds, which should last me several days. If that doesn't work, I might as well buy a bag of Cat Food from the Pet Store!"
Using dog food as bait? The effectiveness is debatable, but the price is certainly not cheap! Giving Carp Master those dozen Plastic Particles likely won't do much; the fish in his spot have probably settled into their own homes by now. Thinking a few Plastic Particles could lure them back is just wishful thinking!
