“How deep did you cast?” Shi Tian asked, glancing at the speed with which Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell was reeling in.
“About seventy meters! I only hooked the fish after it hit the bottom!” Shi Tian replied confidently, looking back at Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell.
“It’s probably Zhang Hong! Qing Gan wouldn’t go that deep! If it’s already at the bottom, what fish could be down there? Sea Red Spot definitely doesn’t have that kind of strength; the biggest ones are only around ten pounds,” he continued.
Besides Zhang Hong, there’s another possibility: Longfin Grouper. Longfin Grouper is also a deep-sea fish that can live at depths of fifty to sixty meters. However, once they are farmed, they can thrive even in just two or three meters of water!
But wild Longfin Grouper isn’t so easy to come by. The one Shi Tian caught earlier was likely one that escaped from a farm; otherwise, it’s rare to see them nearshore.
Before the fish could be reeled in, a few small figures with little black flags were approaching from a distance. While Shi Tian and Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell were focused on the fish coming out of the water, Oka noticed them!
“Hurry up and get the fish in! We’ve got company coming to steal it!” Oka said with a smirk, pointing at the small black flags.
“Steal our fish? Who dares? We have a Korean Style Gill Net on board! Anyone who tries will regret it!” Shi Tian declared confidently, stretching his arms and cracking his neck.
“Stealing fish? That happens often in sea fishing, especially with Sea Wolves and notoriously aggressive sharks. They won’t hesitate to take what’s on your hook,” Oka explained.
With such a large fish, Sea Wolves shouldn’t be able to bite it, but as for sharks… well, that’s another story! Those creatures open their massive jaws filled with sharp teeth without any hesitation. If you’re lucky enough to get back with just the head for soup, consider yourself fortunate!
An American Gill Net wouldn’t help either; you can’t mess with those bandits. They’d only steal your fish if they deemed you worthy! Most ordinary catches aren’t even worth their time! Oka chuckled mischievously as he watched Shi Tian, who had already put away his rod and was now just observing.
Noticing Oka’s gaze fixed on him, Shi Tian felt uneasy. Following Oka’s line of sight, he saw several small black triangular flags on the surface of the water, and panic set in!
“Oh no! Are those sharks? So many of them?” Seeing all those flags approaching made Shi Tian hurriedly push the electric reel's switch all the way down and urged Oka, “Quick! Get the gaff over here! We can’t let these bandits steal our fish!”
“Dare to come steal my fish? Just watch me hook one and drag it onto the boat for a little chat!” Shi Tian boasted.
Oka merely chuckled at Shi Tian's bravado and reminded him while bringing over the gaff, “You really can’t mess with these guys; they’re top-tier predators—on par with giant pandas!”
“On par with giant pandas?” Shi Tian was taken aback by Oka’s words. “What do you mean sharks are protected species? Aren’t they classified as second-tier? It may seem like just one level apart, but the treatment is worlds apart!”
“Don’t underestimate me; sharks are second-tier species. Some aren’t even classified as such; if they misbehave, they go straight into the pot!” Shi Tian shot Oka a glance but decided not to argue further. The electric reel stopped as the fish finally surfaced.
Seizing the opportunity, Oka lowered the gaff into the water and hooked onto the fish before those little black flags could reach them.
As guessed by Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell, it was indeed Zhang Hong—a hefty fifty-plus pounds! The tail was bigger than Shi Tian's face!
With the fish now onboard, Shi Tian felt emboldened. Ignoring the approaching sharks for now, he turned around and pointed at the triangular fins rushing toward the boat. “Come on! The fish is on board; anyone who wants it can come take it!”
Before he could finish his sentence, Shi Tian swallowed his words back down. He realized that this group was indeed not something he could handle.
A group of pink dolphins—now that's something he truly couldn't handle! There were only about three to five hundred of them in all of Sanya. If they got hurt at sea and word spread, there would be no chance of coming ashore; otherwise, the people of Sanya would beat him to death. Only an island nation could accept such inhumane beings!
Shi Tian turned and tossed a red snapper out of the live well. With the aid of a Korean-style gill net, he flung the fish toward the triangle flag. As soon as the fish hit the water, a dolphin turned in its direction and snatched it up before it could sink.
Dolphins are quite friendly creatures. Seeing Shi Tian feeding them, the entire pod paused, leaping out of the water one by one, with a couple even swimming close to the boat. Dolphins are indeed sociable, even if they are wild.
However, the Zhonghua dolphins usually appear nearshore; they can often be seen frolicking in the water by some beaches. It was rare for this group to venture into such deep waters.
Since they hadn’t had their fill yet, it was time to feed them again! After all, he was half a cook himself. It was a rare opportunity to encounter Zhonghua dolphins for a meal—how could he let it go to waste?
With one cast of the ping net, two small red snappers surfaced. Aiming at the two little guys near the fishing boat, he caught one on each side; he certainly couldn’t let them fight over a single fish!
Feeding dolphins with red snapper always felt lacking; if he could catch some pond fish instead, that would be ideal. The texture of those fish would be perfect—they could just swallow them whole without needing to chew.
As Shi Tian fed the dolphins, Oka showed interest too. He had caught far more red snappers than Shi Tian. While Shi Tian was busy wrestling with a big one, Oka had managed to reel in four or five.
Naturally, Scallions and Ginger wouldn’t miss such a scene. He filmed the dolphins in the water while capturing moments of the two feeding them. This would surely be a major selling point and attract a terrifying number of views for his video!
