Wang Ergou casually replied, while Shi Tianyi stuffed his mouth with a skewer of pork belly, alternating bites as he devoured it. He hadn't eaten all day and had no interest in chatting; filling his stomach came first!
Wang Ergou's comment caught Tan's attention. He picked up a piece of fish and couldn't help but give a thumbs up; the fish was cooked perfectly!
After satisfying his hunger, Shi Tian leaned back in his chair, sipping beer with a few others, and turned to Chuan Ge. "Chuan Ge, the pepper in your barbecue seasoning is off! Next time, I'll give you a recipe to improve it; I guarantee it will elevate your skewers!"
The pepper used was black pepper and white pepper.
Both types of pepper come from the same plant; however, black pepper is harvested before it ripens. It is boiled for five minutes, dried, and then ground into black pepper powder. White pepper requires a bit more effort; the peppers are picked only when fully ripe and red. After soaking to remove the red outer shell, they are dried, leaving only the inner fruit to be ground into white pepper powder.
Black pepper powder does not withstand high temperatures well; if heated too long, it loses its flavor. It is commonly used for frying meat or grilling, added just before serving. White pepper, on the other hand, is better suited for stewing and can tolerate heat slightly longer than black pepper—though only marginally.
Before grilling meat, it should be marinated! When marinating, avoid adding black pepper. If you want to enhance the flavor without the fishy taste, you can add some white pepper powder! However, once the meat is grilled and ready to be served, that's when you can sprinkle on some black pepper! This will bring out the aroma of the meat!
Every little detail can influence a dish's flavor. To enhance Chuan Ge's barbecue, there are many areas for improvement; Shi Tian could easily suggest a few tweaks that would suffice for Chuan Ge!
Shi Tian's fish had already been tasted by Chuan Ge. He greatly admired Shi Tian's culinary skills and would certainly remember his suggestions.
Aside from dumpling fillings, Shi Tian had considerable insight into barbecuing. After all, he had spent half a month studying Iron Plate Squid, which shared many similarities with grilling!
After enjoying their meal and drinks, Wang Ergou settled the bill. Chuan Ge generously covered all the drink costs; the average expense was sixty per person—clearly discounted by Chuan Ge!
On their way back from Chuan Ge's place, the group began calling for designated drivers! At this hour, it was prime time for police checks on Driving Under the Influence; not many dared to take risks!
In this area, calling for a designated driver wasn't easy. After placing their order, they sat in the shop sipping tea to sober up while chatting about matters in the Fishing Circle.
Shi Tian didn't join them in conversation because Li Ziyu had arrived at the shop.
When he returned from fishing earlier, he hadn't seen Li Ziyu and thought she hadn't gone out today. To his surprise, she showed up after dark.
"Have you eaten? Why are you still out so late? Are you heading back now?" Shi Tian smiled as he approached Li Ziyu.
"I haven't eaten yet! Are you going back? Want to head back together?" With so many people in the shop at once, Li Ziyu didn't want to stay any longer.
She had just rented the space next door and was busy planning her renovation scheme. After getting the keys, she immediately started working on it!
This was her first shop to run herself; she wanted to be hands-on with everything.
She hadn't signed the lease yet; without a Business License, renovations were still premature. However, she could design her renovation plan now so that once she signed the lease with Aunt Zhang tomorrow and the renovation crew arrived, she could begin procuring equipment and handling paperwork!
"Alright! Let's head back together! But I've had a few drinks tonight, so I can't drive. How about we let Sun Lang drive us?" With a slight smile, Shi Tian glanced at the counter where Sun Lang was still glued to Su Xueyi.
Sun Lang's car arrived, completing his daily task of picking up Su Xueyi. During her work hours, he would stay with her until eight in the evening, after which he would drive her back to school, and they would conveniently have dinner together on the way.
"No worries, I drove here. We can just take my car!" Li Ziyu said with a smile, shaking the car keys in her hand.
Li Ziyu's car was also a mini, but hers was imported from Germany, proudly bearing the BMW emblem!
"Great! Let's go!" After glancing at Li Ziyu's small car flashing its turn signals outside, she caught sight of Electric Car Guy riding towards them on his electric bike.
It was late at night, and it was hard to see people's faces clearly. However, there was a large white fish nearly a meter long trailing behind Electric Car Guy—there was no doubt it was him!
"Electric Car Guy is coming! You all don’t know me! I'm outta here!" Shi Tian shouted as she bent down and dashed out of the shop. By the time Li Ziyu realized what was happening, Shi Tian had already opened the car door and jumped into her vehicle, leaving Li Ziyu utterly confused.
"What’s going on? Did you run into a debt collector?" Once inside the car, Li Ziyu lightly pressed the accelerator and asked curiously after they had driven a short distance away from the Fishing Tackle Shop.
"Hehe! I was just driving around today when I saw someone carrying a fishing rod. I quietly followed them and snuck into their fishing spot. I accidentally attracted a huge crowd and ended up stealing all their fish! That Electric Car Guy must be furious!"
Shi Tian explained briefly but felt a bit proud. The thrill of sneaking around was quite exhilarating; doing it with someone else made it even better. She felt a bit sorry for Electric Car Guy though—he probably hadn’t slept well these past few days!
"You can fish like that? Next time something like this happens, don’t forget to call me! I want in!" Listening to Shi Tian’s explanation, Li Ziyu found herself feeling oddly excited.
Having already considered sneaking around to fish in Artificial Lake rebellious enough, she never imagined Shi Tian could steal someone’s fishing spot too. Just thinking about it was fun!
