Lying in bed, Shi Tian spent half the night studying Baiting Hook before decisively tossing his phone aside. The information online was overwhelming; it was better to see things in person and create the Hook based on the fishermen's needs to ensure a successful outing!
Early the next morning, just past four o'clock, Shi Tian received a call from Old Kong, inviting him over for breakfast.
Breakfast at four in the morning? The call left Shi Tian a bit bewildered. The last time he had breakfast this early was when the Air Force took the old man to the capital! Could it be that the old man was going to Beijing? That would be fantastic!
After a quick wash-up, Shi Tian hurriedly drove over to the old man's place.
Yi Laotou got into character quite quickly; in just one night, he had somehow managed to convince Yi Laotou to don an apron and prepare breakfast for everyone in the kitchen!
"Old man, why are we having breakfast so early?" Shi Tian asked, staring blankly at Old Kong.
"We're heading up the mountain soon for Zao Kou. I didn't want to disturb you, but your master insisted on calling you over for breakfast!" Old Kong replied casually as he turned to wait at the dining table.
While the old man could wait for breakfast, Shi Tian couldn't just sit around.
He rushed into the kitchen to wash his hands, but as soon as he tried to help, he was shooed away by Yi Laotou.
"Xiao Tian, do you have anything planned today? We're going up the mountain for Zao Kou. If you're free, why not join us for some fishing?" As plates of breakfast were served, Yi Laotou asked.
Hearing this, Shi Tian finally understood why Yi Laotou had called him over.
Was this an invitation for breakfast? No, it was more about showing off in front of his disciple! Asking him to accompany a few old men fishing up the mountain was just a way to flaunt his fishing skills!
To be honest, Shi Tian was quite tempted by Yi Laotou's proposal. His own Customized Rod hadn't been tested yet; taking it to Xinyue Lake would undoubtedly be a great choice!
However, he really didn't have time today—at least not in the morning. He needed to restock supplies at his shop and deliver the items he promised to Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell, including rods and other ingredients.
"I won't have time this morning; I need to oversee restocking at the shop. But once I'm done, I can come up and fish with you guys for a bit—probably after nine!"
He wanted to give Yi Laotou some time to bask in his glory before they headed out. Otherwise, if he started fishing first, it would only frustrate the old man and likely lead to trouble with Old Kong and the others!
While part of him wanted Yi Laotou to witness the harsh realities of fishing, that thought was fleeting; he certainly didn’t want to push his luck. If he went crazy with fishing in front of Yi Laotou, not only would he be chased down by the other three old men, but he might also find himself on the receiving end of some petty revenge from Yi Laotou!
"Nine o'clock? If you have something to do, go ahead! It won't be too late when you finish!" Hearing that Shi Tian would come by nine o'clock made Yi Laotou quite happy.
The large batch of Yu Hu that Shi Tian prepared should yield good results if today's fish activity was anything like yesterday's. By nine o'clock, they should have quite a catch that would surely impress this young lad!
Before finishing breakfast, however, several old men dragged Shi Tian out. Their fishing gear was still at his place, and since it was quite a distance from here to the back mountain, they insisted that he drive them over to retrieve their gear and drop them off at the small gate leading up the mountain.
Since they were already at the small gate leading up the mountain, why not help them carry their gear up as well? With two girls still asleep and not yet awake while it was still dark outside, he couldn’t let these old men go up alone!
Opening the small gate and turning on the streetlights, Shi Tian shouldered three fishing boxes and took off up the mountain.
"Wow! There are streetlights here?" Seeing a row of lights flicker on, Old Kong squinted slightly and asked curiously.
Yes! The mountain needs electricity, and while laying down the cables, they conveniently installed a lighting line, so there are streetlights all the way from here to the lakeside. Last time I accompanied a few old gentlemen fishing, he noticed the distribution box here. After going down the mountain, he specifically studied it and confirmed that it was the Control Box for the streetlights on the mountain.
"Where's the switch on the mountain?" He paused for a moment and quickly stepped forward to ask.
"There’s a switch at the bottom of the mountain, so there must be one up here too. We can’t be running down to turn the lights on and off!"
"I’m not sure where the switch is on the mountain; it should be in those few houses over there. We can go look for it later!" Carrying four Fishing Boxes was no easy task, and Shi Tian had no intention of accompanying them on a leisurely hike. He wanted to deliver their things quickly so he could take a nap.
In fact, the old men were also anxious. They got up early just to catch the Zao Kou, and they didn’t want to waste too much time here.
After placing their things on the Fishing Platform, Shi Tian checked the small house by the lake and found the Control Box for both the streetlights and the fishing platform lights. He turned on the lights by the Fishing Platform before stepping outside to meet up with the old gentlemen who had just arrived.
"The Control Box is in this house; there’s one for the streetlights and another for lighting up the Fishing Platform. Remember to come back and turn off the Fishing Platform lights when it gets light."
As he spoke, Shi Tian took out a key. "Here you go, old man. This is the key to the house. After you finish fishing, you can lock your Fishing Gear inside; there’s no need to carry it back and forth every day—it’s inconvenient. The house has air conditioning and a refrigerator; you can cool off in there when it gets hot!"
Shi Tian had checked earlier, and the refrigerator was empty except for half a bottle of mineral water. But that was fine; just having some water would do. If they had food too, these old gentlemen would probably never want to leave!
Looking at the key Shi Tian handed over, the old man smiled awkwardly. "You keep the key! I have one here already. Get back to what you need to do quickly, and don’t speak so loudly; you’ll scare away the fish!"
The key to the small door at the back mountain wasn’t just one but a whole bunch. When he went to get keys made back then, he didn’t hold back and got them all done without missing any. However, aside from the small door key, he hadn’t used any of the others and didn’t know what they were for.
Upon hearing that they might scare away the fish, Yi Laotou quickly leaned in closer and whispered, "Aren't you going to restock at the store? Hurry up! Don’t forget to come back by nine to fish with us!"
Shi Tian thought: How practical! Once I finish my work, they’re ready to shoo me away!
