Last time I went fishing, I checked the lunar calendar, but the results were rather disappointing! To say that I didn’t catch anything would be a lie; I did reel in a baby shark, but it was so small that I had to throw it back into the sea!
As for Shi Tian, he wouldn’t doubt the wisdom of ancient Chinese texts; he could only blame himself for not mastering the craft. Now that he had encountered someone knowledgeable, he naturally wanted to ask for advice!
When Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell heard Shi Tian discussing the Imperial Calendar with the old man, his eyes widened in disbelief. Fishing while checking the lunar calendar? He knew very well that his master, Yi Shu, was quite skilled—wealthy Hong Kong tycoons would send private jets just to have him on board!
Unfortunately, their calculations had fallen flat; the old man had never figured out where the fish might be, just like someone who hadn’t learned how to predict lottery numbers!
“I’ve never fished before; how would I know?” The old man shot Shi Tian a blank stare, feeling speechless.
Initially, when he heard Shi Tian was studying Yi Shu, the old man felt quite pleased. He had taken on many apprentices, all of whom were chefs. Finally, there was one who dabbled in fortune-telling! Yet here he was using it to find fishing spots—how frustrating!
The old man replied to Shi Tian without much hope. Just because you’ve never fished doesn’t mean you can’t figure out where the fish are; it’s not a big deal if you get wet!
“Master, do you need to know how to fish in order to calculate where they are? If you could fish, wouldn’t you be able to predict where they’d be?” Shi Tian scratched his head and asked innocently.
Upon hearing this question from Shi Tian, Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell involuntarily twitched his eyelids. This Shixiong didn’t seem like an easy one to deal with! But I like it!
From what Shi Tian implied, he seemed to understand a bit about Yi Shu. As long as the old man could figure out where the fish were located, Shi Tian would surely beg him to teach him. He didn’t dare ask directly about fishing spots, but once Shi Tian learned, he could ask him instead!
“Easy to Learn? It’s not that simple! It’s not like those people at Yuan Men Kou who set up stalls and think they can predict everything just by counting on their fingers! That only gives you a rough idea of fortune for the year!”
It was like electricity: three live wires and one neutral wire plus a ground wire. If you measured with a voltage tester or multimeter for leaks or short circuits, that’s just basic electricity.
But if you encountered a large machine with electrical issues and didn’t understand its workings, where would you even start testing? If you understood how the machine operated and could diagnose based on the faults, you’d have a rough idea of where the problem lay. Then targeted testing could quickly identify and fix the issue.
Just because you can repair household electrical systems doesn’t mean you can fix industrial machinery—that’s called specialization! “Easy to Learn” also requires combining various elements to deduce certain things!
Listening to the old man speak so confidently, Shi Tian exchanged glances with Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell, both of them smiling slightly.
“Master,” Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell said earnestly, “organizing a competition isn’t easy; we need to support it! When the time comes for the competition, I’ll take you along to show our support!” He poured a cup of tea for the old man.
The old man didn’t mind joining in on such festivities; after all, being idle wasn’t fun either. It would be nice to mingle a bit—once it got too hot, he could easily call a cab and head home!
“Alright! When is the competition? As long as I have time, I’ll go support Xiao Tian!” After taking a sip of tea, the old man felt somewhat speechless. Since Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell had already made plans, he couldn’t refuse without making Shi Tian lose face!
Seeing that the old man was speaking up, Shi Tian thought for a moment and said: “Don’t underestimate Bai Tiao; if we clean it up and sprinkle some salt before frying it in oil, it’ll smell amazing! I’m heading out now to scout the competition venue; Brother, can you give me a ride back? After I check out the venue, I’ll bring back some Fishing Spot Bai Tiao for dinner tonight—make sure you fry up a plate for Master!”
As soon as Shi Tian finished speaking, Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell immediately interjected: “Why do I need to take you back? I have my Rod here; where’s your Fishing Spot? I’ll take you there! Master, are you going to rest or come with us for a little outing? We can be back quickly!”
The old man:
Don't think I don't know what you're all thinking. However, I must admit I'm a bit bored here, so going out with them for a while wouldn't be too bad!
Then, the two of them whisked the old man away! Taking him to explore a fishing spot requires some careful planning. The fishing spots in the city definitely won't do; we need to find a picturesque location with clear waters to keep the old man engaged.
With the Wind Oil Essence boosting our luck, each of us took a rod, and even after dark, we hadn't finished exploring a single fishing spot. However, we did manage to catch quite a few Bai Tiao!
Upon returning to the Cong Jiang Qu Xian Resort, Scallions and Ginger took charge of cleaning the fish while Shi Tian learned by their side. The old man personally took to the kitchen, and with a few buckets of beer and some drinks downed, he kept mumbling about how he preferred to catch his own fish!
After spending the night at Scallion and Ginger to Remove Fishy Smell, Great Qing had already prepared a homestyle milk soup with the Carp the old man caught yesterday. Shi Tian made an excuse about needing to handle something at the shop and slipped away.
The competition is just two days away, and we still haven't confirmed the fishing spot. Plus, I left Luo Yongshan hanging yesterday; I need to go talk to him about that!
After dropping Scallion and Ginger off at their shop, Shi Tian didn't let him leave immediately. Instead, he grabbed a set of Hand Rods and paired them with Line Setups for him to take back to the old man.
He equipped him with everything: Fishing Box, Rod Bag, Yu Hu, Fish Bucket, and Net—all complete. Float Box and hook boxes with Line Setups were also included. If I didn't equip him properly, how could I pull him into this?
For matters like this, the two of them worked well together. With Senior Shui Bi Zhang's line teaching right there as reference, if they couldn't figure this out, that would be quite disappointing!
After sending Scallion and Ginger off, Shi Tian went upstairs and copied a vegetarian filling recipe for Luo Yongshan. With both meat and vegetarian options, Luo Yongshan Dumpling House should be able to manage!
When he entered the shop earlier, he noticed Luo Yongshan and his wife peering at him from behind the window like statues waiting for their husbands. If Shi Tian didn't deliver the recipe soon, those two would probably have trouble sleeping tonight!
"Shan Ge," he said. "I got held up yesterday and couldn't come by. How about you wrap a few dumplings for me to taste? Let's see if your skills have improved!" As soon as he stepped into the Dumpling House, Shi Tian explained before either of them could say anything.
Upon hearing this, Luo Yongshan wasted no time and immediately headed to the back kitchen to start chopping vegetables and preparing fillings.
