Yes, I caught it this morning! I haven't weighed it yet, but I estimate it's over forty pounds!
Old man, come on, have a cigarette! Take this pack! I don't smoke, so it's a waste to keep it with me. Where did you catch this fish? Tomorrow is Saturday; I want to try my luck too. Are you going? If you are, we can go together! I'll drive you!
No need! I have my own cigarettes! This fish was caught from the Chaobai River, near the Friendship Bridge in the south!
Old man, are you from this neighborhood? I haven't seen you around before!
Not really, just about forty pounds! I'm not from this neighborhood; my daughter lives here, and I'm visiting my granddaughter!
The old man wandered around the neighborhood three times before finally finding his daughter's building before dark. He followed a fishing buddy who had been chatting with him all the way to the entrance, took the elevator upstairs, and knocked on the door. This time it was Xiao Qiqi who opened it.
Who is it?
It's me!
Who are you?
You're Qi Qi, right?
You're lying; you're Grandpa!
As she opened the door, little Girl stared at the fish in the old man's arms and exclaimed, "Wow! That's such a big fish! Did Grandpa catch it?"
Hearing the little girl's praise, the old man beamed with joy and said, "Of course! This is the fish I caught myself! Impressive, right?"
Last time he caught a one-pound grass carp to bring warmth, just when the Air Force had caught a giant fish. That made the little girl feel quite touched! This time he managed to catch a giant fish himself; finally, he could redeem himself. The old man immediately thought of the little girl.
"Grandpa is amazing! This fish is even longer than the one Brother Jun caught; it's almost as tall as Qi Qi!" The little girl clapped her hands in excitement. But just as the old man was basking in her admiration, her next comment made him unable to smile.
"This fish is so long; why is it so thin? The big fish Brother Jun caught was long and fat; that one was even bigger!"
After pondering for a moment while bringing the fish into the kitchen, the old man came back out with a lackluster expression and asked, "Qi Qi, have you finished your homework for tonight? Hurry back to your room and get it done! Tomorrow Grandpa will bring some practice papers for you!"
With that statement, the old man had successfully put little Girl in her place!
"Grandpa! Such a big fish must have a lot of strength! How did you manage to catch it? Grandpa is so impressive!" Sticking out her tongue, little Girl immediately surrendered!
"How much does this fish weigh? It's my first time seeing such a big one!"
"Grandpa is so amazing; can you teach Qi Qi too?"
"Are you going fishing again tomorrow? Take Qi Qi along! I want to be as good as Grandpa!"
Old Zhang was carrying fish as he strolled through the streets, while over in Sanya, another Old Zhang was doing the same. After spending the entire morning fishing for Bai Tiao, Shi Tian returned to the shop just past eleven o'clock.
He placed the caught Bai Tiao into the fish tank and then drove to pick up Su Xueyi. "Old Sun! You can't do this! It's such a hot day, how can you bring a delicate young lady out to be scorched by the sun?"
Sitting behind the counter, Shi Tian continued, "It's almost noon. Let's find a nice restaurant with a good atmosphere and treat her to a meal. Then we can go to a cinema and watch a movie with her. By then, the sun won't be so harsh!"
After the movie, they could buy some ice cream and enjoy the sea breeze while fishing, spending a lovely afternoon together. That would certainly be better than bringing her over just to get sunburned!
Under Shi Tian's guidance, they gradually moved the fishing gear from the car into the shop. Sun Lang drove to City to help Shi Tian wash and refuel the car. By the time they returned, it was already four in the afternoon!
They tossed the Bai Tiao that Shi Tian had caught that morning into Hai Li, set up their stall, and just as Sun Lang was about to show off in front of Su Xueyi, Old Zhang hooked a fish!
It was quite large—almost a meter long—though unfortunately it was a Bigeye Flounder weighing around thirty pounds. Bigeye Mullet were not uncommon in shallow waters; most were caught using lures. Whether with lures or jigs, they could be reeled in!
While it was said that these fish were easy to catch, it wasn't entirely true; there was still a high chance of losing them once hooked. Fortunately, Old Zhang used sturdy line and managed to drag it up after just three tries!
With a big fish caught, it was time to pack up; otherwise, Sun Lang and Su Xueyi would tease him endlessly! He tossed his fishing gear into the Fishing Tackle Shop and grabbed his Fish Bucket, carrying the large Bigeye Mullet toward the town's market.
"Uncle Zhang, aren't you driving?" Seeing Old Zhang carrying the fish on his shoulder toward town, Shi Tian hurriedly approached him with a question.
Old Zhang usually drove when selling fish; even if he only had one or two Black Sea Bream weighing about a pound each, he would still drive around the market!
"Oil prices went up again yesterday! I can't afford to drive now! The market isn't far; I can walk there!" Old Zhang replied resolutely.
He wasn't aware that oil prices had risen again; since coming to Sanya, he hadn't needed to refuel! Previously he had driven an Electric Mini that didn't require gas—he just plugged it in at home.
Now he was using Shi Ye's Dai Yue Ye. He had filled up before leaving Shi Ye's place and hadn't even used half of it yet; Sun Lang had just topped it off for him again. Was oil really that expensive?
All highways in Hainan are free; however, those costs are reflected in fuel prices. The oil price in Hainan is about a dollar higher than elsewhere. But even with that extra dollar, Old Zhang wouldn't hesitate to drive!
"How about I drive you over? The market is only two kilometers away! There’s hardly anyone in the shop right now; closing for a few minutes won’t delay anything!"
Recently, my body feels a bit off. I need to move around a bit; you take care of the shop first! Glancing at Shi Tianyi, Old Zhang's pace quickened slightly, leaving Shi Tian standing there in a daze.
