Miao Dongxu insisted on trying again, but he was stopped by the Commander of the Court of the Imperial Guard.
That man had once been a guard in Donggong, but now he was the most trusted person of Jing Xun.
His name was Lou Yao.
Jing Xun was furious in Jing Yi Hall, shattering the teacup in his hand.
“Miao Dongxu! Do you even know what you are doing?!”
“Are you disregarding the safety of the capital?”
“Do you want to bring the Plague back to the capital and endanger countless lives?!”
Miao Dongxu knelt on the ground, “This servant knows his crime.”
“I beg Your Majesty for mercy, spare this servant this time.”
Jing Xun looked at him coldly, “If there is a next time, I will take your life.”
Miao Dongxu repeatedly bowed his head, “Thank you for your grace, Your Majesty.”
Jing Xun stepped over the threshold and walked up to me.
He leaned down and grasped my chin, “What’s wrong?”
“Are you very afraid?”
I lowered my gaze. "I have not."
Jing Xun let out a cold scoff. "Not?"
"You had Miao Dongxu send a letter to your father?"
"Xu Peiyao, are you truly not afraid of death?"
I clenched my teeth. "I just want to know how they are doing..."
Jing Xun interrupted me. "Do you think they won't die?"
"That plague has left even the imperial physicians helpless."
"They're already dead!"
Jing Xun released me, looking down at me from above.
"Xu Peiyao, if you can treat me as you did before, I can help you find your parents."
"I will have them come to see you tomorrow."
I was taken aback by his words. "Really?"
Seeing my stunned expression, Jing Xun's gaze softened.
He reached out and tucked a stray hair behind my ear. "Really."
"But you have to be good."
"You need to treat me like you did before."
After Jing Xun left, I spent the entire day thinking about it.
I couldn't even eat or sleep without thinking about it.
I wanted to see them.
I wanted to know how they had been all these years.
I didn't care whether Jing Xun would let me leave the palace.
As long as I could see them, I would do anything.
The next afternoon, Jing Xun came again.
He dismissed Ling Shuang and the other maids, his gaze intense as he looked at me. "You need to behave better today."
"Tomorrow, I'll have your parents brought to you."
I sat on the edge of the bed with my eyes downcast, saying nothing.
Jing Xun pressed me down onto the Dragon Bed.
"Peiyao, are you unwilling?"
I found myself pinned beneath him, unable to move, so I had no choice but to comply.
Seeing me obediently at his mercy, Jing Xun seemed a bit annoyed.
He impatiently tore open my collar.
I couldn't help but shiver slightly.
Noticing my reaction, Jing Xun paused for a moment. "What's wrong?"
I shook my head. "It's nothing."
Jing Xun chuckled softly. "Is it uncomfortable here?"
He reached behind me and began to gently knead.
I couldn't help but let out a soft gasp.
Jing Xun's ears turned slightly red as he buried his head in the crook of my neck, nibbling softly.
Later, I mentioned this incident to Ling Shuang.
Ling Shuang looked puzzled. "Your Highness, you've been so compliant with him. Why is he still not satisfied?"
I fell silent for a moment before replying, "What he desires has never been my compliance."
Ling Shuang's confusion deepened. "Then what does he want?"
As I gazed into the bronze mirror and saw my reflection, a sudden realization dawned upon me.
What he wanted was my true heart.
He loved and respected me, treating me as his legitimate wife.
He hoped that I would also be wholeheartedly devoted to him.
In the past, I had foolishly considered myself his elder sister, always maintaining an air of superiority.
Now that our roles had reversed, I was still acting the same way as before.
A wave of guilt washed over me.
Once I understood this, I began to learn how to please him.
Every time we shared intimate moments, I would call out his name.
