Lin Xiao Yu returned home after a long journey, her heart filled with joy. Her mother, Song Ying, was in the living room and upon seeing her daughter, a radiant smile instantly lit up her face as she hurried over to take Lin Xiao Yu's backpack.
"My precious daughter, I’ve been waiting for you to come back!" Song Ying's voice was filled with affection.
"Mom, I’m back now," Lin Xiao Yu replied with a smile, affectionately linking her arm with her mother’s.
"How long can you stay this time?" Song Ying asked.
"Mom, I came back mainly to tell you something important. I'm going to Beijing soon!" Lin Xiao Yu said, her eyes sparkling.
"Beijing? Oh my, that’s quite a place!" Song Ying exclaimed, both surprised and a bit worried. "But can you take care of yourself out there?"
"Mom, don’t worry. There’s more good news—Lu Zean is also going to Beijing! He got a great research opportunity. We’ll be in the same city and can look out for each other. That makes me feel really secure," Lin Xiao Yu said, her face glowing with happiness.
Upon hearing this, Song Ying's eyes sparkled with a different light, and the corners of her mouth lifted slightly. "Oh, I see. That’s wonderful! You two have grown up together; your relationship has always been so close. But let me ask you this: have you two thought about your future together? Like, are there any plans for marriage?"
Lin Xiao Yu's cheeks flushed instantly. She shyly lowered her head and gently bit her lip. "Mom, why are you bringing this up all of a sudden? We’ve just started this new journey; our careers haven’t even gotten on track yet. Marriage is still a long way off."
Song Ying gently stroked Lin Xiao Yu's hair and said earnestly, "As someone who has been through it all, I can’t help but think about these things when I see you two together. Life in Beijing is fast-paced and stressful, but I believe in your relationship. No matter what the future holds, you must nurture it—understand and support each other."
Lin Xiao Yu looked up and firmly met her mother’s gaze. "Mom, I know that. Lu Zean and I will work hard together; we will cherish our feelings for each other. When we are mature enough and capable of taking on a family, then we’ll think about marriage. Right now, we just want to focus on our careers."
Song Ying nodded with satisfaction. "I support your decision. As long as you’re happy, that’s what matters. Now let me cook your favorite dishes to pamper you."
"Thank you, Mom!" Lin Xiao Yu linked arms with her mother as they headed to the kitchen, her heart filled with beautiful dreams for the future.
