As evening descended, the sky was painted with fiery hues of sunset, enveloping the streets in a warm atmosphere. Lu Zean stood at the parting crossroads, holding a carefully arranged bouquet of flowers. Beside him, Lin Xiao Yu's eyes reflected the glow of the sunset, exuding a unique shyness and sweetness typical of a young girl. Lu Zean slightly turned to the side, extending the flowers towards Lin Xiao Yu, his face beaming with affectionate joy as he spoke, "Lin Xiao Yu, these flowers carry the weight of our struggles through the college entrance exams and mark the beginning of our journey together. I hope you like them."
Lin Xiao Yu accepted the bouquet with both hands, her fingertips brushing against the petals as she inhaled their rich fragrance. A smile curved her lips into a beautiful arc as she softly replied, "Lu Zean, thank you! They are truly lovely; I will cherish them."
As Lin Xiao Yu turned to leave, taking steps toward home, her figure gradually disappeared into the building. Inside, Song Ying was tidying up some items when she heard the sound of the door opening. She looked up to see her daughter holding flowers and blushing brightly. Initially taken aback, Song Ying quickly teased, "Oh, what’s this? Our Lin Xiao Yu seems to have some good news, holding such beautiful flowers!"
Lin Xiao Yu changed her shoes and took Song Ying's arm, a hint of nervousness and anticipation in her voice as she said, "Mom, I have something to tell you. I’m in a relationship now; my partner is Lu Zean."
Song Ying's expression changed instantly to one of shock. In her mind, Lin Xiao Yu had always been quiet and reserved, a diligent girl focused solely on her studies with little deviation from the norm. To hear her declare a romantic relationship was indeed surprising. After gathering herself, Song Ying pulled her onto the sofa and asked, "When did this happen? The college entrance exams just ended! Although we’ve received the acceptance letters, I’m still worried it might affect your studies."
Lin Xiao Yu hurriedly explained, "Mom, please don’t worry! During our preparations for exams, we encouraged each other without neglecting our studies. Now that it’s all over, I feel our feelings have grown stronger, and I wanted to be honest with you."
As night fell, Lin Wufeng returned home from work. Song Ying rushed to greet him and pulled him into their bedroom to discuss Lin Xiao Yu's relationship. Just as Lin Wufeng set down his bag and heard the news, his brow furrowed in displeasure as he muttered, "Our precious daughter has always been so well-behaved and gentle like a delicate flower. And that Lu Zean—hmph! He seems like a reckless bull who has caught our flower's attention; it really doesn’t sit well with me." He paced back and forth with clenched fists, revealing a father's worries and reluctance.
Song Ying quickly reassured him, "Come on now! The kids are growing up; having feelings is normal. They both got into university and can support each other in their progress; it might even be a good thing. You should trust your daughter's judgment."
Lin Wufeng sighed heavily in resignation and replied, "I hope so. But I can’t shake off this unease. I need to find an opportunity to meet this boy; if he dares to mistreat Lin Xiao Yu, I won’t let him off easily."
A few days later, Lu Zean came by as promised for a visit. When the doorbell rang, Lin Wufeng quickly opened the door to find Lu Zean standing outside with a beautifully wrapped gift box and a cheerful smile on his face. With a curt nod of acknowledgment, Lin Wufeng stepped aside to let him in and said coldly, "Come in."
Lu Zean politely greeted him: "Hello, Uncle! I brought some treats for you and Auntie."
Once inside, Song Ying welcomed him warmly, offering water and inviting him to sit down while chatting amiably: "Xiao Lu! Getting into university is just the beginning; you’ll need to work hard from here on out."
Lu Zean promptly stood up and replied earnestly, "Auntie don’t worry! I will not slack off; Lin Xiao Yu and I have promised to strive for success in university together."
