In the small courtyard, the warm sun poured down, casting playful patches of light on the ground. The dishes on the table emitted steam, filling the air with delightful aromas. Everyone gathered around, laughter and cheerful chatter echoing everywhere, and naturally, the focus of the conversation landed on Lin Dongzhe.
Zhuang Xiao Ting seemed to suddenly recall a funny incident; her eyes brightened as she put down her chopsticks, which she had just been about to use to pick up food. Leaning forward with her hands propped on the table, she tilted her head slightly toward Lin Dongzhe, a mischievous smile playing at the corners of her mouth. There was a hint of mischief in her expression as she fixed her sparkling gaze on him and said, "Lin Dongzhe, don't forget that article 'My Dear' you wrote back then. It caused quite a stir and almost drove the teacher mad!" As she spoke, she straightened up and exaggeratedly waved her hands in the air, as if reenacting the scene of their teacher's anger. Then she leaned forward again, gesturing with her chopsticks toward Lin Dongzhe and continued, "Now that you're in high school, it's a place full of talented individuals. You can't afford to be careless anymore! You need to write well and regain the face you lost before." Finally, she playfully made a funny face at him, her eyes blinking playfully, which sent everyone into fits of laughter. She couldn't help but giggle herself, occasionally nudging her companions with her elbow to share in the joy of teasing.
Suzhou elegantly sipped her juice when she heard Zhuang Xiao Ting's words. She set down her cup with a smile that barely concealed her amusement. Clearing her throat, she placed her hands neatly on the table and sat up straight, adopting a mock-serious expression like a little adult. She slightly raised her gaze to lock eyes with Lin Dongzhe and spoke slowly and deliberately, "Exactly! High school is nothing like before; the competition is fierce. Just think about it," she said as she extended her right index finger into the air as if emphasizing a point. "In class, if the teacher throws out a tough question and you’re still just playing around like before..." At this point, she frowned slightly and shook her head vigorously like a rattle drum, spreading her hands wide as if to say he wouldn't even dare raise his hand. Then she stood up, walked around the table to Lin Dongzhe's side, and patted him on the shoulder with just the right amount of force. Her eyes sparkled with encouragement mixed with teasing as she added, "But if you're willing to study seriously, with your cleverness, you'll definitely keep up with everyone. Just don’t let us down!" After giving his shoulder another playful squeeze, she returned to her seat with a bright smile.
The others joined in on the teasing as well, each chiming in with their own remarks. Some were still chewing their food when they heard the topic shift; they quickly swallowed their bites and wiped their mouths before turning toward Lin Dongzhe. Remembering how he used to slack off on his homework for playtime, one gestured animatedly in the air while jokingly saying, "You can't just think about running out to play marbles or cards during breaks anymore! You need to memorize more vocabulary and solve more math problems; that's what really matters!" Another put down their bowl and chopsticks, crossed their arms over their chest while leaning back against their chair. Recalling Lin Dongzhe’s previous careless mistakes during exams, they squinted slightly with a smile and reminded him playfully, "During tests, you really need to keep your eyes wide open! Don’t mess up even the simple questions again; otherwise, your scores will slip right through your fingers!"
