In a tea house outside Fengcheng County, a group of people gathered to vent their frustrations.
"That Da Hu is truly terrifying! The last time I locked eyes with him, I had nightmares for an entire night!"
"I heard that now those habitual offenders are too scared to commit crimes? That's a good thing!"
"What good is that! Last time, someone beat his wife and was locked up for a few days. When he came back, he was completely dazed!"
"Is that for real? Sounds unbelievable!"
As the conversation heated up, someone noticed a woman nearby gritting her teeth and asked, "Miss, what's wrong with you?"
"I’m the wife who got beaten!" The woman said, tears welling in her eyes. "My husband was so scared that he won't even touch me when he came back. How are we supposed to live like this?"
"Is that Da Hu still around?" Lin Dongyu asked timidly.
The constable looked at her in confusion. "He’s the Jail Boss, of course he is."
Lin Dongyu's face fell, nearly bringing her to tears. Was there any way she could switch prisons?
Little Thief Lin Dongyu was determined to make a name for herself in the martial world, and she had chosen Fengcheng County, rumored to be overflowing with wealth, as her first stop. However, after failing twice in a row, it didn't matter as much as the fact that no one had warned her about Da Hu being in Fengcheng County!
Reluctantly stepping into the cell, Lin Dongyu wore a bitter expression. The thought of spending the next three months in close quarters with Da Hu made her head spin—yes, the county magistrate had sentenced her to three months! They returned all her belongings to their rightful owner and treated her like this! Lin Dongyu was filled with resentment.
Lin Dongyu gritted her teeth in frustration, but she heard the man's voice beside her: "We meet again." She shivered, realizing he was laughing—a cold laugh. "You came back quickly!"
She forced a smile. "Hehe, not too bad..." The shadow of the tall, burly man loomed over her, and every cell in Lin Dongyu's body went on high alert. The last time she had witnessed him scare a group of prisoners so badly that they wet themselves. Although she had managed to hold it together then, it had been terrifying! Lowering her head, she caught sight of his rough, large hand and imagined him slapping her dead with it...
" Jail Boss Hu, how have you been lately?" To survive this time, she decided to cling to him for support; pride wouldn’t put food on the table!
Hu Ba raised an eyebrow and asked, "I heard you stole a jade pendant this time and ended up getting caught?"
Was he reveling in her misfortune? Or was he looking down on her lack of skill? Lin Dongyu dared not retort and feigned a look of remorse: "I admit my mistake."
Hu Ba pulled out a jade pendant and waved it in front of her. "Do you remember this?" The pendant looked somewhat familiar. Lin Dongyu finally lifted her head to look at him, and just a glance nearly made her stumble: "Y-you..." She stared closely at Hu Ba. Wait? Da Hu had lost his beard! His face remained as chiseled as ever, devoid of any extra expression, but that face... Damn it, he was the one she had wronged!
How unlucky could she be to have stolen from him? He had merely shaved his beard; how could she not recognize him? Lin Dongyu complained inwardly: Why would he shave his beard? He didn’t get any more handsome! Then another thought struck her: "Did you have County Magistrate sentence me so harshly?"
It had to be! Last time she received only three days; this time it was three months—such a big difference! Hu Ba looked at her with displeasure, the corners of his mouth curling slightly upward. "Little One, who told you to be so blind and provoke me?"
Lin Dongyu made a sad face. "Isn't it enough that I admitted my mistake?" She pleaded, "Please do me a favor and let me go."
Hu Ba shook his head decisively. "No way! If I let you go so easily, where would my face be?"
"What do you want then?"
Hu Ba sneered. "This jade pendant is a family heirloom meant for my wife. If you're willing to marry me, then it won't count as theft." The last time Lin Dongyu visited the prison, he found her interesting and thought about pulling her back in. Sure enough, deliberately flaunting the precious jade pendant in front of her proved effective.
Is this man going crazy because he can't find a wife? She has no intention of marrying a tiger just for a jade pendant!
