"Shi Ran! Where are you?"
I glanced at Chen Haotian, who pointed to his phone.
I understood.
"Chu Jun, I'm at the hotel."
Chu Jun let out a sigh of relief. "That's good! I thought you had been sold off!"
"You were taken away by a man last night! You have no idea how worried I was about you!"
I sheepishly touched my nose. "Chu Jun, it wasn't intentional."
Chu Jun sighed. "As long as you're okay."
I put the phone on speaker so Chen Haotian could hear too.
I recounted what happened last night to Chu Jun.
After listening, Chu Jun exploded in anger. "Shi Ran! How could you just go off with a stranger? What if you ran into a bad person who sold you?"
Chen Haotian chuckled beside me.
Hearing this, Chu Jun's tone turned sharp. "What are you laughing at?"
Chen Haotian quickly explained, "It's nothing, I just think you sound like a character from a movie."
Chu Jun paused, momentarily speechless.
Chen Haotian then asked, "Excuse me, miss, what do you mean by saying she shouldn't go off with strangers?"
Chu Jun retorted confidently, "Do you know Shi Ran? If it weren't for the fact that you look like Mi Qiang, how could she possibly go with you?"
Chen Haotian hesitated and fell silent.
Chu Jun continued to scold me, "Shi Ran! Couldn't you just call me when you got drunk? Even if I can't control you, I can't let you go off with a stranger!"
I pouted. "Chu Jun, I made mistakes too. Don't blame me."
Chu Jun sighed in resignation. "Fine, fine, as long as you're okay."
I asked again, "Chu Jun, can you come pick me up?"
Chu Jun gritted his teeth and said, "Just wait for me!"
Chu Jun hung up the phone.
Chen Haotian and I exchanged glances, the atmosphere feeling a bit awkward. To ease the tension, I spoke up, "Thank you, Mr. Chen."
He chuckled lightly, "It's nothing."
He stood up and walked in front of me, looking down from his height, "Next time, don't just follow strangers."
I thought to myself that I wasn't foolish. If I hadn't mistaken him for Mi Qiang, I wouldn't have followed him at all.
Chen Haotian continued, "Also, don't drink so much next time."
I couldn't help but retort, "What does my drinking have to do with you? Why are you so concerned?"
He paused for a moment, surprised, "I'm just worried about you."
I scoffed coldly, "Sorry, but we're not that close."
His expression darkened, and he fell silent. After a while, he said, "I've already paid for the room."
With that, he grabbed his coat and strode out of the room.
Watching his departing figure, I felt utterly baffled. What did he mean by saying he'd paid for the room? As if he were my boyfriend or something!
Frustrated, I lay on the sofa, tossing and turning unable to sleep. Just then, Chu Jun pushed the door open and saw me sprawled on the sofa in disarray. She couldn't help but question me, "Shi Ran! What did you do with that man last night?"
I rolled my eyes at her, "What could he possibly do with me?"
Chu Jun persisted with her questioning, "Then why do you look like this?"
I glared at her angrily, "Isn't it because you took me to the bar? Otherwise, how would I have run into that man?"
Chu Jun nervously touched his nose and said, "I'm sorry! I thought going to the bar would help you feel better..."
I was furious. "Chu Jun! If you consider me a friend, then you should take responsibility for me!"
Chu Jun smiled apologetically. "Alright, alright! I’m your friend and also your family! I promise this won't happen again!"
