Thunder rumbled in the sky, and the wild cat on the garage roof was meowing desperately. 0

Liu Yuan Kui's eyelids kept twitching. 0

Finally, the heavy rain arrived, and the road in the distance quickly turned into a flood. 0

"How about we just let her take a taxi back? We just picked Dong Dong up from Grandma's, and now we have to go to the station to pick up our daughter," Zhao Wenya whispered. "If it really doesn't work, we can wait until after six." 0

"No," Liu Yuan Kui replied, his voice low but resolute. 0

He looked up at the quartz clock hanging on the living room wall; it was still half an hour until six o'clock. 0

If it weren't for his wife Zhao Wenya constantly delaying things, he would have already been waiting at the station by now. 0

"I'm going to pick her up right now." 0

As Liu Yuan Kui stood up to leave, he suddenly saw the bedroom door swing open. Dong Dong came running out barefoot, tears still on her little face, shouting "Sister is back!" as she rushed to open the door. 0

Zhao Wenya didn't have time to stop her before the door was already opened. 0

A gust of cool wind rushed in, sweeping through the hallway and into the living room, making Liu Yuan Kui and his wife feel a tightness in their chests. 0

There was no one outside; not even a sound echoed in the corridor. 0

Zhao Wenya was the first to react. Her expression shifted from fear to anger as she rushed forward, raising her hand to strike Dong Dong. 0

Dong Dong looked at her and said, "Sister said she was in pain." 0

Zhao Wenya froze, her hand suspended in mid-air. 0

At that moment, Liu Yuan Kui's phone rang. He hurriedly answered it; it was his daughter Liu Yan calling: "Dad, I'm almost home!" 0

Liu Yuan Kui felt a rush of joy. "Where are you now?" 0

"Hehe, I just got off the bus. Can you see me?" 0

Liu Yuan Kui hurried to the window and saw a taxi pull up, its headlights cutting through the rain to form long beams of light. A girl dressed in black stepped out of the car. 0

Excitedly, Liu Yuan Kui exclaimed, "Dad sees you!" 0

The girl on the street looked up at the building, saying, "I’ll be there soon, just wait for me—" 0

Before she could finish her sentence, a truck across the street suddenly lost control and crashed into an electric pole, causing a wire to fall directly onto Liu Yan. 0

The tragic event unfolded in mere seconds. Liu Yuan Kui and Zhao Wenya stood frozen in shock as their daughter Liu Yan fell to the ground in the rain like a beautiful black dahlia. 0

Zhao Wenya let out a scream and fainted, while Liu Yuan Kui felt his knees go weak and stumbled towards the door. 0

Dong Dong stood by the door, murmuring, "Sister said her fingers hurt!" 0

Liu Yan was dead. 0

The truck driver, who indirectly caused Liu Yan's death, died on the spot as well. With no family to claim him, his fate was left unresolved. 0

A beautiful girl lost her life in the prime of her youth, plunging the Liu family into deep sorrow. 0

After the funeral, everyone gradually dispersed. 0

Zhao Wenya sat in Liu Yan's former room, surrounded by memories that made her heart ache anew. 0

She recalled her first days in this home when Liu Yan was only thirteen. Back then, Liu Yan seemed to harbor hostility towards Zhao Wenya, even once crawling under her bed and startling Zhao Wenya with a sudden appearance when she came to tuck her in. Zhao Wenya had screamed in fright while Liu Yan simply crawled back under the covers as if nothing had happened. 0

But over time, their relationship softened until they were as close as a mother and daughter. 0

Lost in thought, Zhao Wenya glanced at the edge of the bed and shivered, her heart racing. 0

She noticed a piece of clothing sticking out from under the bed—a red checkered shirt, one of Liu Yan's favorites. 0

No wonder she hadn’t found it while tidying up earlier; it had been hiding here all along. 0

As Zhao Wenya bent down to pick it up, she felt as if the shirt was pulling back into the darkness beneath the bed. 0

"Who is it?" Zhao Wenya raised her voice deliberately. Liu Yuan Kui, who was smoking in the living room, hurried over and asked, "What's wrong?" 0

"Under the bed..." Zhao Wenya pointed beneath the bed. "It seems like there's something in there." 0

Liu Yuan Kui grabbed a flashlight, knelt down, and shone it under the bed. Soon, he called out, "Dong Dong, come out quickly. Don't make your parents angry." 0

Upon hearing Dong Dong's name, Zhao Wenya quickly bent down to look inside. She saw Dong Dong wearing his sister's clothes, crouched on all fours, staring at her and Liu Yuan Kui like a little wild animal. 0

"Dong Dong, come out." 0

Having just lost one daughter, Zhao Wenya couldn't bring herself to scold her only son. 0

Dong Dong showed no intention of coming out. He said, "Sister said she hurts all over." 0

Liu Yuan Kui simply sat down on the floor and lit another cigarette. "Wenya, I think we should send Dong Dong to stay with my mom for a while. If this keeps up, I'm worried it won't be good for his development." 0

To his surprise, Zhao Wenya flatly refused. "I can't let Dong Dong leave my side for even a moment. Wherever he goes, I go too, unless..." 0

She shot Liu Yuan Kui a glance and finished her sentence, "Unless I die." 0

Liu Yuan Kui fell silent. "How about this? Let's all go back to my hometown for a few days. You pack up some things; we'll leave soon." 0
