At the end of the corridor, a group of fully armed members from the Qi Gong Association was approaching them. Leading the pack was a burly man with a face full of muscle, wielding a gleaming machete that radiated an aura of menace.
Lin Yuan's heart sank as he thought, "Goodness, this luck is more thrilling than winning the lottery! Running into a patrol team like this—did I forget to check the calendar before stepping out?"
Su Jiu'er, quick on her feet, grabbed Lin Yuan and gestured for him to hide in a small room nearby. Fortunately, this secret base was built like a maze, with plenty of nooks and crannies—an ideal place for hide-and-seek.
The two slipped into a cluttered room filled with junk. Lin Yuan instinctively picked up a dusty antique vase. If he smashed it over someone's head, it would likely result in quite the bloody spectacle.
"Wow, this place really is an antique warehouse! Even this thing is here!" Lin Yuan muttered quietly, weighing the vase in his hands. It felt sturdy enough, though he wondered about its durability.
Su Jiu'er shot him an exasperated look and whispered, "Is this really the time to admire antiques? We need to think of a way out. If we're discovered, we'll be sitting ducks!"
The patrol team drew closer, their heavy footsteps and the clinking of metal echoing through the empty corridor like a death knell, sending shivers down their spines.
Lin Yuan's mind raced until suddenly he had an idea. He slapped his forehead and exclaimed, "Of course! How could I forget about my little treasure?"
He pulled out a talisman from his pocket—the Illusion Talisman he had "borrowed" from Zhou Haoran. This could be just what they needed to experience the thrill of invisibility at a critical moment.
Lin Yuan pressed the talisman against the door and recited the incantation. A flash of golden light enveloped the paper, and instantly, the door became transparent, blending seamlessly with the surrounding wall as if it had vanished altogether—more miraculous than any magic trick.
The patrol team reached the door and looked around but found nothing amiss. The burly leader scratched his head in confusion. "That's strange; I definitely heard something here! Is my hearing going bad?"
"Boss, this place is eerie; could it be haunted?" one of his subordinates stammered, his voice trembling as if he had seen a ghost.
“Haunted? You’ve been reading too many novels! There are no ghosts in this world!” The burly man slapped the back of his subordinate's head. “Get your act together and stop being paranoid! If the higher-ups find out we’re slacking off, you’d better watch your heads!”
The patrol team continued down the corridor, gradually disappearing at the end, finally escaping a close call.
Lin Yuan and Su Jiu'er let out a sigh of relief as they stepped out of the room. “Phew, that was close! We almost got caught!” Lin Yuan wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. “This Illusion Talisman really works; it’s practically a lifesaver!”
However, Su Jiu'er remained frowning, her voice serious. “Don’t celebrate too soon; we’re not out of danger yet. We need to find the core secrets of the Qi Gong Association and get out of here quickly, or everything will be for nothing.”
The two continued deeper into the Secret Base. The rooms on either side of the corridor were filled with all sorts of bizarre devices and instruments, dazzling to behold, as if they had stepped into a sci-fi movie set.
As Lin Yuan walked, he used his Guan Qi ability to sense the surrounding Spiritual Energy Fluctuation, hoping to find some useful clues. This ability was like having a built-in radar, helping him detect the flow of Lingqi around him—a true treasure-hunting tool.
Suddenly, Lin Yuan stopped in his tracks, his gaze fixed on a heavy Metal Door at the end of the corridor. The door was tightly shut, and the Spiritual Energy Fluctuation around it was unusually strong, as if something inside was stirring, clearly hiding some secret.
“That’s it!” Lin Yuan pointed at the door with determination in his voice. “I can sense powerful Spiritual Energy Fluctuation inside; the core secrets of the Qi Gong Association must be behind that door! I’m sure of it!”
Su Jiu'er nodded and took out an ancient-looking dagger from her waist. This dagger was a family heirloom, capable of cutting through iron like mud and extremely sharp. It was said to be able to slay demons and monsters—an essential tool for home defense and travel.
“Are you ready?” Su Jiu'er looked at Lin Yuan, her eyes filled with resolve as if they were about to embark on a life-and-death battle.
“Of course!” Lin Yuan grinned, excitement sparkling in his eyes. “I can’t wait to see what’s inside! I hope it doesn’t disappoint!”
The two approached the Metal Door. Su Jiu'er inserted the dagger into the crack of the door and pried it open with force. With a loud “creak,” the Metal Door swung open as if welcoming their arrival.
Behind the large door lay a spacious underground space, filled with various high-tech equipment and training facilities, exuding a sense of futuristic technology. In the center stood a massive circular platform, shimmering with strange lights, as if connecting to another world, mysterious and unfathomable.
"Wow, this place is really impressive!" Lin Yuan couldn't help but exclaim. "This Qi Gong Association is truly wealthy! I wonder where they get all this money; it can't be money laundering, can it?"
Just then, a figure emerged from the shadows, blocking their path. It was a tall, mysterious person dressed in a black robe, wearing a mask that obscured their face. A powerful Spiritual Energy Fluctuation emanated from them, sending chills down one's spine, as if they were a messenger from hell.
"Who are you?" the mysterious figure asked coldly, their voice deep and hoarse, filled with intimidation.
"And who are you? Coming here to play tricks?" Lin Yuan retorted without backing down, his eyes filled with vigilance, showing no signs of being intimidated by the other's presence.
"I am the guardian here, Shadow," the mysterious figure slowly removed their mask, revealing a handsome yet cold face, sharp and defined like it had been chiseled from stone, with eyes as piercing as an eagle's.
"Shadow? Never heard of you. Which faction do you belong to?" Lin Yuan shrugged dismissively. "You're blocking our way; if you know what's good for you, step aside and don't waste our time!"
"Hmph, ignorant!" Shadow scoffed, a flicker of murderous intent flashing in his eyes like a venomous snake's tongue. "Since you insist on intruding here, don't blame me for being rude!"
Before he finished speaking, Shadow's figure flickered and vanished from sight. When he reappeared, he was already in front of Lin Yuan, striking towards his chest with a palm that was as swift as lightning.
Lin Yuan had been prepared; he sidestepped to evade the strike while delivering a punch aimed at Shadow's face without holding back. Shadow raised his hand to block it. The two fists and palms collided with a dull thud that echoed like thunder.
