Lin Yuan sprinted like a wild dog unleashed, his heart pounding so hard he felt it might leap out of his throat. "That woman is ruthless! Luckily, I run fast; otherwise, she'd have turned me into sashimi!" He glanced back nervously, fearing Han Lingyun might catch up. When she got angry, she was merciless.
The alarm in the laboratory blared loudly, the shrill sirens only adding to his anxiety. "What the hell? This noise is outrageous! Anyone would think I stole an atomic bomb!" he thought, mentally complaining. The alarm was louder than his broken alarm clock at home and was driving him crazy; he hoped it wouldn’t wake up the neighbor's teddy bear.
Following the route Su Jiu'er had given him, Lin Yuan twisted and turned like a mouse in a maze until he finally reached a secluded exit. It was well hidden; without Su Jiu'er’s guidance, he would never have found it. He pulled open a rusted iron door, and a wave of damp air hit him, mingled with the "fragrance" of rat droppings and mold that nearly made him gag. "What kind of hellhole is this? It stinks worse than my bathroom! Su Jiu'er must be doing this on purpose!" He covered his nose and walked in with a disgusted expression, feeling as if he had fallen into a garbage dump.
As soon as he entered, the iron door slammed shut with a loud clang, echoing ominously down the corridor. Lin Yuan jumped in shock, nearly losing his mind. "What’s going on? Is this a trap? Su Jiu'er, you little trickster!" Panic surged through him as the scene reminded him of horror movie clichés—dark and eerie, sending chills down his spine. What if something like Sadako suddenly appeared? He rubbed his goosebumps, feeling uneasy.
Suddenly, a shadow appeared behind him with astonishing speed, like a gust of wind carrying a chilling aura. Before Lin Yuan could react, he was struck in the back by a powerful blow and flew forward like a kite with its string cut, crashing heavily to the ground. Pain shot through him as if all his organs had shifted; it felt like he had been hit by a truck. "Ouch! My back!" he grimaced in agony.
"Cough cough..." Lin Yuan coughed up blood, feeling as though his throat was on fire. "Who? Who ambushed me? Come out and face me one-on-one!" Struggling to lift his head, everything before him was blurry; he could only make out a towering figure radiating immense pressure that made it hard for him to breathe.
"Are you Lin Yuan?" The shadow spoke in a deep voice that was cold and merciless, sending shivers down Lin Yuan's spine as if he had been thrown into an ice cellar.
"W-who are you?" Lin Yuan stammered, feeling like a mouse caught in the gaze of a giant python, unable to move. The pressure from this figure was even more terrifying than Han Lingyun!
"I am Shadow," the figure replied coldly. "Senior Advisor of the Qi Gong Association and your opponent."
"Shadow? What kind of ridiculous name is that? It sounds worse than mine! Anyone would think it's some anime character!" Lin Yuan thought to himself, internally mocking the name for being so juvenile and unremarkable. It would be cooler if it were something like 'Shadow Demon' or 'Nightshade Shadow.'
Ignoring Lin Yuan's thoughts, Shadow slowly raised his hand, gathering an immense amount of Lingqi into a glowing orb that radiated suffocating energy waves. "Die!" he declared coldly, his voice filled with murderous intent as if pronouncing Lin Yuan's death sentence.
Lin Yuan's heart sank in terror. "Oh no! This old guy is serious! Looks like I'm done for today!" He quickly activated his Gazing Ability, trying to find any weaknesses in his opponent. This old man’s Lingqi was more powerful than anyone he had ever encountered—like a moving nuclear reactor!
The way Shadow's Lingqi operated was truly unique, unlike anyone Lin Yuan had ever encountered. His Lingqi flowed like dragons within him, rolling and surging with immense power and explosiveness. Lin Yuan felt as if he were a small boat facing towering waves, on the verge of being swallowed whole. If he were hit even once, he would likely be reduced to ashes.
"With such little skill, you dare to challenge me?" Shadow mocked, his tone dripping with disdain, as if he were looking at an ant.
Lin Yuan gritted his teeth. He knew he was no match for Shadow, but that didn’t mean he would simply give up. He was not the type to sit idly by and wait for his doom! He began to utilize his agile movements to evade Shadow's attacks while seeking an opportunity to counterattack. Like a nimble monkey, he darted around within Shadow's striking range, jumping up and down, dodging left and right.
Shadow's attack speed was incredibly fast, each strike infused with powerful Lingqi. Lin Yuan could barely manage to evade them, having no chance to fight back. He felt like a mouse trapped in a cage, at the mercy of his predator. This old man was ruthless; every blow was lethal, showing no mercy whatsoever!
"Kid, your struggles are in vain!" Shadow sneered, his voice filled with confidence as if victory was already assured.
Lin Yuan's stamina was rapidly depleting; sweat soaked through his clothes, and his breathing became increasingly labored. He knew he couldn't hold out much longer. He had to find a way to turn the tide; otherwise, he would truly be finished.
Just then, Lin Yuan suddenly realized that Shadow's attacks did not solely rely on Lingqi but were also enhanced by some sort of special technological means. He noticed a Black Metal Ring on Shadow's wrist, which glimmered faintly and seemed connected to the flow of his Lingqi. This revelation sparked a glimmer of hope within him.
