Su Jiu'er's expression was grave, and a hint of vigilance flashed in her eyes. "Be careful!" she whispered, as if reminding Lin Yuan and herself at the same time.
Lin Yuan swallowed hard, feeling his heart race as if it might leap into his throat. "It wouldn't be some ancient zombie king trying to absorb my life force, would it?" he stammered, his voice trembling like someone with Parkinson's.
"Shut up!" Su Jiu'er snapped, signaling Lin Yuan to keep quiet as she cautiously moved toward the source of the sound.
Lin Yuan followed closely behind Su Jiu'er, like a frightened little rabbit, wishing he could shrink himself down and hide in her pocket. "Jiu'er, maybe we should just go back?" he whispered. "I suddenly feel a stomach ache; it might be from that spicy crawfish we had for lunch. I need to get to a hospital for an emergency check-up; I might even need to stay for observation."
Su Jiu'er completely ignored his complaint and continued forward, her pace quickening as if something were urging her on or perhaps trying to escape Lin Yuan's incessant chatter.
This valley, touted as a rich cultivation site filled with spiritual energy, felt ominous at every turn. The towering trees blocked out the sun, casting deep shadows that made it impossible for any light to penetrate. The air was thick with the damp smell of earth mixed with the stench of decaying plants, making Lin Yuan feel nauseous. He felt as though he had stepped onto the set of a horror movie, just waiting for a ghost with disheveled hair to leap down from the trees.
"I mean, Jiu'er, is this ancestral cultivation site of yours really all that great? The feng shui seems off," Lin Yuan couldn't help but comment. "It feels so eerie; there can't be anything unclean lurking around here, right?"
Su Jiu'er stopped in her tracks and shot him a glare. "Can you keep your mouth shut? You're such a jinx!"
Lin Yuan shrank back, too scared to speak further. He obediently followed Su Jiu'er, silently praying: Please let all the gods protect us; don't let anything weird happen!
After pushing through a dense thicket, they emerged into a clearing. In the center stood a massive piece of azure stone, its surface smooth as a mirror and emanating a faint blue glow.
"This is it," Su Jiu'er said. "You can cultivate here."
Lin Yuan looked at the stone and thought to himself, "This thing looks pretty ordinary; can it really help me cultivate? It can't be some kind of scam, right?"
Despite his doubts, Lin Yuan obediently followed Su Jiuer's instructions and sat cross-legged on the azure stone. He closed his eyes and began to circulate the spiritual energy within him.
As time passed, Lin Yuan felt the surrounding spiritual energy grow denser, transforming into fine threads that penetrated his pores and nourished his body. He sensed his meridians expanding gradually while the spiritual energy within him surged like a rushing river.
He entered a wondrous state where he felt one with his surroundings, sensing the fluctuations of spiritual energy in the air and listening to nature's breath.
Suddenly, a powerful surge of spiritual energy erupted from within Lin Yuan. He felt as if his body might explode at any moment, overwhelmed by a wild force rampaging inside him.
"Oh no! I'm going to blow up!" Lin Yuan thought in alarm, feeling like an overinflated balloon ready to burst.
At that moment, a mesmerizing illusion appeared before him. He found himself in a chaotic void filled with twisted images and eerie sounds. Countless grotesque faces surrounded him, emitting chilling screams as if they were dragging him into the depths of hell.
“What the hell is going on?” Lin Yuan was terrified, struggling desperately to escape this horrifying illusion, but he found himself unable to move, as if bound by an invisible force.
Outside the valley, Su Jiu'er sensed the abnormal fluctuations within Lin Yuan and her expression changed dramatically.
“Not good! Spirit Energy Out of Control!” She rushed into the valley and saw Lin Yuan writhing in agony within the illusion, his face pale and his body trembling.
Without hesitation, Su Jiu'er extended her hand, slowly infusing her Lingqi into Lin Yuan's body like a gentle stream, attempting to disperse the raging power wreaking havoc inside him.
Her Lingqi was like a warm ray of sunlight, illuminating Lin Yuan's dark inner world. The grotesque faces gradually faded away, and the eerie sounds began to quiet down.
Lin Yuan felt as if he were immersed in a warm ocean, an indescribable sense of comfort washing over him. He slowly opened his eyes and saw Su Jiu'er looking at him with deep concern.
“Jiu'er, what… what happened to me?” Lin Yuan asked weakly.
“You had Spirit Energy Out of Control and almost fell into madness,” Su Jiu'er replied. “Fortunately, I arrived in time; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.”
Lin Yuan patted his chest with lingering fear. “That scared me! I thought I was going to die!”
Su Jiu'er shot him a glare. “From now on, be careful when cultivating. Don’t be reckless.”
Lin Yuan nodded. “I understand, Jiu'er.”
He stood up, feeling an overwhelming surge of power coursing through him as if he had been reborn. He clenched his fists, sensing the surging Lingqi within him, and excitedly exclaimed, “I feel like I could punch a cow to death right now!”
Su Jiu'er shook her head with a smile. “Stop bragging; your strength is still far from that level.”
Lin Yuan chuckled. “I know, I know; I’m just joking.”
Suddenly remembering something, he asked, “By the way, Jiu'er, I think I just broke through. What realm am I at now?”
Su Jiu'er replied, “You have broken through to Lingjing Awakening.”
“Lingjing Awakening?” Lin Yuan scratched his head. “What kind of realm is that? Is it powerful?”
Su Jiu'er explained, “Lingjing Awakening is an important stage on the path of cultivation. Breaking through to this realm means you have initially mastered the use of Lingqi and can start learning some simple spells.”
Lin Yuan's eyes sparkled with excitement. "A spell? I can learn a spell now? Does that mean I can fly and summon the winds and rain?"
Su Jiu'er sighed helplessly. "You're thinking too much. You're still far from that."
Lin Yuan pouted. "Alright, alright, I get it."
Although a bit disappointed, Lin Yuan was still thrilled; after all, he had embarked on the path of cultivation, and the future was filled with infinite possibilities.
Just then, the cave suddenly shook violently, and rocks began to fall from above, as if the end of the world had come.
"What’s happening?" Lin Yuan asked in panic.
Su Jiu'er’s expression turned serious. "The Spirit Energy is out of control! We have to leave here immediately!"
The two of them dashed toward the cave exit...
Just as they were about to escape, the entrance suddenly collapsed, trapping them inside.
"What do we do now?" Lin Yuan asked desperately.
Su Jiu'er took a deep breath, a glint of determination flashing in her eyes. "It seems we have no choice but to use our last resort..."
