After a series of urgent knocks, Zhou Haoran burst into the rental apartment, drenched in sweat, clutching a crumpled note tightly in his hand. His expression was frantic, as if he had just escaped from the gates of hell. Anyone unaware of the situation might think he had stumbled into a den of spider spirits, being chased down by a horde of them.
“Something big has happened! Lin Yuan, Su Jiu'er, I just received news that the Qi Gong Association is making major moves tonight! The commotion is so intense that anyone unaware would think the apocalypse is upon us!” Zhou Haoran gasped, nearly tripping over his own tongue as he nervously handed the pale paper to Lin Yuan.
Lin Yuan took the note and saw that it was hastily scribbled with a brush: “Lingyu Experiment, launching tonight, suburban base.” The handwriting looked like it had been scratched out by a chicken's claw, making Lin Yuan want to crumple the note and stuff it up Zhou Haoran's nose.
“Lingyu Experiment launching tonight? These guys are really eager to stir up trouble,” Lin Yuan said, exchanging glances with Su Jiu'er. They both recognized shock and a hint of excitement in each other's eyes, as if they had discovered a new continent.
“It seems our plans need to be moved up,” Su Jiu'er said firmly, her tone leaving no room for doubt, like a general preparing for battle. “Tonight, we must infiltrate the Experimental Base and thwart this conspiracy! No matter the danger, I will not back down!”
As night fell, the Qi Gong Association's secret Experimental Base in the deep mountains was ablaze with lights, resembling a giant beast lurking in the darkness, emanating an eerie glow. The towering walls were lined with countless surveillance cameras and infrared detectors, heavily guarded and seemingly more impenetrable than iron walls. Anyone unaware might think this was an alien secret base.
Lin Yuan and Su Jiu'er donned their stealth gear and hid among the trees surrounding the base, observing their surroundings like two leopards poised to pounce. The trees were tall and dense, blocking out most of the moonlight except for scattered patches that fell on the ground, creating dappled shadows.
“This security system is even tighter than I imagined. If we try to force our way in, we’ll probably end up as Swiss cheese before we even reach the wall,” Lin Yuan mused, stroking his chin with a furrowed brow as he calculated how to breach this layered defense.
“Don’t worry; I have a plan,” Su Jiu'er said as she pulled out a small device from her backpack and handed it to Lin Yuan. The device resembled a high-tech lighter. “This is my Interference Device, developed based on Ancient Texts. It can temporarily disable surveillance and infrared detection. This is my secret weapon; I don’t share it with just anyone.”
Lin Yuan took the Interference Device and pressed the switch. A faint buzzing sound emitted from it, akin to a mosquito buzzing around his ear. At that moment, all nearby surveillance cameras and infrared detectors ceased functioning as if they had been paralyzed.
“Impressive! Miss Su, this thing works better than my favorite drink! If we ever hit a bank vault together, we’d be rolling in money!” Lin Yuan joked playfully.
Su Jiu'er shot him an annoyed glance and retorted sharply, “Stop joking around; let’s get moving! If we miss our chance now, all our efforts will be for nothing!”
Under the cover of night, the two stealthily approached the base’s wall like ghosts drifting through darkness.
“There’s a mechanism here.” Su Jiu'er pointed to an inconspicuous stone slab at the base of the surrounding wall, her tone laced with seriousness. “According to my knowledge of archaeology, this should be an ancient defense mechanism. Once triggered, it will release toxic gas. This thing can be deadly!”
Lin Yuan activated his Gazing Ability and indeed sensed a faint Spiritual Energy Fluctuation around the stone slab, like a wisp of blue smoke drifting in the air, clearly indicating some sort of Mechanism Trap.
“Let me handle this. Such child’s play is no challenge for me.” Su Jiu'er crouched down, carefully examining the patterns on the stone slab, resembling an expert cracking a code. She then pulled out a set of tools from her backpack and began to work with practiced ease, her movements fluid and seamless.
With a soft click, the stone slab slowly shifted aside, revealing a passage barely wide enough for one person to squeeze through, like a door leading to another world.
“Let’s go. Stay close and don’t fall behind.” Su Jiu'er was the first to crawl through the opening, her figure disappearing into the darkness.
Lin Yuan followed closely behind, and the two successfully entered the base's interior, akin to two mice sneaking into a granary.
Inside the base was a vast underground space filled with flickering lights and humming machines, resembling a gigantic factory. Numerous robotic guards patrolled the corridors, moving back and forth while emitting sounds of metal scraping against metal. Laser security grids crisscrossed like deadly traps, flashing ominously in red light, sending chills down one’s spine.
“Be careful; these robotic guards are equipped with firearms. If they lock onto us, it won’t be a joke,” Su Jiu'er warned, her voice tinged with concern.
Lin Yuan activated his Gazing Ability to anticipate the scanning trajectory of the laser grids and guided Su Jiu'er in cleverly dodging them, creating an exhilarating infiltration scene as if they were playing a real-life escape room.
“Left! Quick! There’s a blind spot in the surveillance!” Lin Yuan urged sharply, pulling Su Jiu'er aside just in time to avoid a laser beam; their movements were precise and fluid.
“Right! Duck! The laser is about to sweep over!” Su Jiu'er also called out. The two worked in perfect harmony, gliding through the base like phantoms, evading various Mechanism Traps as if they were two mice navigating through a maze.
Suddenly, an urgent alarm blared, and red warning lights flashed wildly as if everything were on fire; panic engulfed the entire base.
“This is bad; we’ve triggered the alarm! It looks like we need to speed up!” Su Jiu'er’s expression changed as she spoke with urgency.
"Damn it, which part went wrong? Is that cursed Interference Device malfunctioning?" Lin Yuan cursed under his breath, feeling a sense of dread. The two were forced to race against time, searching for a hidden passage into the core area, like two rabbits being chased by hunters.
A swarm of robotic guards surged from all directions, surrounding them like a pack of hungry wolves eyeing their prey.
"It looks like we have no choice but to charge through! Let's show these metal clumps what we're made of!" A fierce glint flashed in Lin Yuan's eyes as he summoned his Lingqi, preparing for battle like a warrior ready to step onto the battlefield.
Just then, Su Jiu'er suddenly pointed at a ventilation duct above them and said, "Lin Yuan, look! We might be able to escape through there!"
Lin Yuan looked up and saw an inconspicuous control panel at the entrance of the duct, resembling a hidden treasure.
"Great idea! There's always a way out!" Lin Yuan immediately understood Su Jiu'er's intention. The two quickly climbed into the ventilation duct, successfully avoiding detection and sneaking into the Core Laboratory like two mice burrowing into a hole.
As they infiltrated the Core Laboratory, they discovered some fragmented experimental records and research reports that hinted at the dangers of the experiments and the sinister intentions of the Qi Gong Association, laying the groundwork for what was to come.
The door to the Core Laboratory was tightly shut, flashing red warning lights indicating a high-security state.
"What do we do? That door looks really sturdy," Su Jiu'er asked, her tone laced with concern.
Lin Yuan took a deep breath, his gaze resolute. "We'll break it down! Today, we will unveil this mysterious veil!"
With that, he slammed his fist against the door, which burst open with a resounding crash…
