When I opened the door, I saw a lunatic in a suit on this scorching summer day.
I glared at him, trying to maintain the little composure I had left, and asked, "Can I help you? My home doesn't need insurance."
Perhaps my expression gave away my displeasure; he clicked his tongue and spoke with a tone full of disdain. "You must be Zhao Lun, right? Here’s a lawyer's letter regarding the assault you committed against my client, Mr. Zhou Gang, a few days ago. The court date is tomorrow, so make sure to show up."
"Zhou Gang? I don’t know him. Let him come find me."
With that, I prepared to close the door, but he looked at me with contempt and spat out, "Ha! In all my years in this business, I've never seen someone so brazen after committing assault."
My hand froze as I recalled Ouyang Zhirou's words from last night: "Zhao Lun, you can't keep being this weak."
I swung the door open again and kicked him hard. He was caught off guard and crashed into the hallway, falling to the ground.
"Cough, cough! You!"
I crouched down, my eyes filled with murderous intent.
"What do you mean 'you'? Damn it! I hit someone; so what? What can you do about it? You think you can threaten me?" He sneered. "That Zhou whatever better clean up his act because I'm going to show up on time tomorrow. And you, you better clean yourself up too!"
"Zhao Lun! Fine! I’ll bet my entire career that you’ll rot in prison for the rest of your life!"
He tried to put on a fierce demeanor, but I was unfazed. I calmly replied with four words: "A frog at the bottom of a well," and turned to walk toward my bedroom, leaving the door wide open.
I pulled out the gun I had looked at yesterday from under the bed and returned to the doorway.
Seeing the lawyer still lying on the ground, I grinned menacingly. "You think you can make me wait to die? Ha! Come and try!"
With that, I drew the gun and cocked it, pressing it against his forehead. "Guess what? Do you think there are bullets in this gun?"
As an ordinary person, he instinctively thought I was holding a model or a toy. How naive! Threatening me? You’ll never get out of here alive!
I lowered my hand to his inner thighs and fired a shot into the floor with a loud bang.
The noise immediately jolted the three women still in the bedroom awake. "What’s happening? Where’s Zhao Lun?"
"Brother Zhao Lun! Look over there; isn’t that the black box with the gun from yesterday?"
Ouyang Zhirou and Lin Mu Xi quickly turned to where Hua Yu Yan was pointing, recalling the earlier knocking followed by that gunshot. A bad feeling flooded their minds instantly. "Quick! Go check at the door!"
At that moment, they didn’t care about their appearance; they rushed disheveled toward the door.
Just after I fired the shot, the lawyer's pants suddenly released a foul-smelling liquid. Then I aimed the still-smoking gun at his head again.
"Oh, Big Lawyer, weren’t you tough just now? Scared yourself silly? Never seen a real gun before? I really want to spend my life in prison; please help me get there!"
After confirming that the gun in my hand was real, he no longer had the arrogance he once displayed. His body trembled uncontrollably, and his eyes were filled with fear and a desperate will to survive.
Oh, I almost forgot; you’re just a lackey. Here’s the deal: tell me where that Zhou whatever lives, and I won’t blow your brains out today.
His mouth opened and closed as he continued to shake, but he couldn’t utter a single word.
Speak! Are you mute or something?
