One was Zhao Lun's fiancée, and the other was Zhao Lun's ex-girlfriend, known throughout the school. Would it be a fierce confrontation between the new love and the old flame, or a battle between the rightful partner and the ex? Such drama could easily be found elsewhere, but now it was unfolding right here in school!
The atmosphere was eerily silent; even the sound of a pin dropping could be heard clearly. The moment the two women met, tension filled the air.
I thought that with Ouyang Zhirou's peculiar personality, she would surely break down after being coldly mocked like that. To my surprise, she merely glanced at Lin Mu Xi before turning away to crouch down and brush off the dust from my pant legs, resembling a dutiful wife tidying up her husband's attire before he stepped out.
A hint of a resentful tone slipped from her lips as she spoke, laced with an alluring charm. Hearing this left me frozen in place; neither of these women was one to underestimate.
Lin Mu Xi watched as Ouyang Zhirou crouched down, and a fierce expression flashed across her face. "Hah! I wonder who is so shamelessly clinging to Zhao Lun?"
At this, Ouyang Zhirou sprang up, losing her composure as she glared at Lin Mu Xi. "What did you say?!"
Realizing that these two were ready for an all-out war, I quickly exchanged glances with Hu Yao. With more and more people gathering around, we needed to separate them.
Locking eyes with Hu Yao, we instantly understood each other's intentions. "Who are you talking about?!" I exclaimed. "Hu Yao, what are you doing? Let me go!"
Just as Lin Mu Xi began to speak again, Hu Yao immediately grabbed her and dashed toward the left side of the crowd. Seeing this, I didn’t care whether the dispute with Ouyang Zhirou had been resolved; I scooped her up in a princess carry and slipped away to the right side of the throng.
Perhaps it was due to being held like this that Ouyang Zhirou began to struggle fiercely. "Zhao Lun! What are you doing? Let me down! I can walk on my own!"
In my arms, Ouyang Zhirou’s face flushed bright red in an instant. My heart raced; even my breathing quickened. This feeling was familiar yet indescribable—neither good nor bad.
We had barely made it out when I realized that if we stopped now, we would soon be surrounded again. I couldn’t afford to pause, even as Ouyang Zhirou pounded on my chest and pinched my arm.
All the way through, she was loud and unruly. My patience reached its limit. "Shut up! If I loosen my grip for even a second, you'll end up eating dirt!"
At that moment, Ouyang Zhirou finally fell silent, though her hands continued their mischief.
After running for quite a while, the exact distance long forgotten, Ouyang Zhirou finally erupted, biting down hard on my chest.
"Ah!! Let go of me! You damn dog!"
As my feet hit the ground again, she finally released her grip and spat a few times to the side.
A fiery pain shot through my chest as I pulled my collar open and looked down to see a row of neat bite marks.
"Damn it! Ouyang Zhirou! What the hell is wrong with you?"
"What’s wrong with me? I came over here with good intentions to check on you, and this is how you treat me? Everywhere I go, people are eager for my presence, and yet my kindness is met with such disdain."
Ouyang Zhirou looked at me with her flushed face, but the words coming out of her mouth didn’t sound like something a person in her right mind would say.
"Come on, can we just call it even? Just let me off this time. I've been really busy lately. Once I get through all this, I’ll do whatever you want. How does that sound?"
"Even? What the hell did I do wrong? How would I know? I didn’t do anything wrong; this is just a temporary measure to deal with this crazy woman."
She turned her head away, and I couldn’t help but think about how Wang Ju'en had gotten herself into this situation. Didn’t she fear that people would laugh at her father if they found out?
Hearing this, I was instantly taken aback. "How do you know?"
