At around two o'clock, we arrived at Dahui Point and noticed a young man who was very enthusiastic. He waved us over, communicated some details about the situation, and suggested that we take a moment to rest while he went to the riverbank to see if he could find any family members. He was accompanied by a few others, possibly friends or fellow concerned citizens, and after a brief exchange, he left.
An entire hour passed before the young man finally returned, his expression serious as he conveyed the latest updates: "I'm sorry everyone, but I just checked around, and the family member you're looking for is not here. Due to their emotional distress and instability, they have been properly arranged to go home and wait for further news."
Following his gesture, we looked in the direction he pointed and saw many people busily working on the calm surface of the water. After observing and speculating for a while, we all agreed that these individuals were likely affiliated with government agencies. Unfortunately, at that moment, all personnel who could communicate directly with us or provide specific information were still on the boat and had not yet reached this area on land. As a result, we had no way of obtaining more effective updates or subsequent measures.
Faced with this situation, our only option was to continue waiting anxiously. The young man displayed an admirable sense of responsibility; after resting briefly to regain some strength, he set off again without hesitation in search of opportunities that could provide us with substantial assistance.
In Chongqing's summer heat, it felt like a giant furnace enveloping the entire city in waves of scorching warmth. The relentless sun beat down mercilessly, making it feel as if we were inside a steamer—stifling and unbearable. Even by the riverbank, typically considered a cooler spot, there was no shelter from the blazing sun.
With no other choice, we sought refuge in a small patch of meager shade beside an old, rundown vehicle. However, this vehicle offered no relief; its air conditioning system had aged poorly. Despite our efforts to turn it on, it only blew warm air—completely ineffective at cooling us down. Rather than waste fuel on an air conditioner that served no purpose, we decided it was better to turn it off entirely to avoid further annoyance and fuel consumption.
Time ticked by slowly as the hands of the clock moved towards three o'clock in the afternoon. After what felt like an eternity of anxious waiting, we finally managed to contact the family member through the help of the enthusiastic young man. Upon hearing this news, everyone let out a collective sigh of relief, and hope ignited within us.
The family member on the other end of the line expressed a strong need for our assistance. Hearing this revitalized our weary team members as if they had received a shot of adrenaline. Everyone sprang into action, quickly preparing for a tense yet organized rescue operation.
However, considering it was already past three o'clock, we realized that if we didn't address our dinner situation soon, we might have to return to shore for energy replenishment shortly after entering the water. Therefore, everyone decided to complete all preliminary preparations before heading out for dinner.
After hastily finishing our meal, night fell; yet this did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm and determination of our team members. Armed with strong flashlights and lifebuoys among other gear, they resolutely embarked on their first round of search efforts.
Not long into our search—less than an hour—a sudden flurry of urgent radio calls shattered the night's tranquility. "Quick! Back to shore!" Following this command, although reluctant, everyone turned without hesitation and hurried back towards land.
As soon as we reached the shore, anxious family members rushed towards us with excitement: "We found someone who drowned at a specific location!" They explained that he had floated up on his own and was discovered by a fisherman near the riverbank who immediately called for help. Hearing this news brought mixed feelings of relief and sorrow to everyone present.
