On a summer day, we received a notification that a certain department wanted us to provide training for them. After some consideration, we decided to accept the offer; after all, it was the National Department, and declining would seem disrespectful. 0

The training session consisted of several parts. First, we introduced our brave and fearless team. Our members came from all corners of the country, united by a shared mission to save lives and protect safety. This team was large, with each member possessing unique skills and expertise. Some were adept at climbing tall buildings, others specialized in Water Rescue, and still others had extensive experience in search and rescue operations in earthquake debris. 0

Next, we moved on to the second part, which focused on essential medical knowledge and skills. This included Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, a critical technique that can save lives in dire situations; bleeding control techniques were also indispensable, as everyone needed to quickly and accurately take appropriate measures for both arterial and venous bleeding; bandaging was an art in itself, requiring not only proper treatment of wounds but also consideration for the comfort of the injured and the convenience of subsequent treatment; additionally, proficiency in using an Automated External Defibrillator was another crucial skill everyone had to master, as it could provide timely and effective electrical treatment during cardiac arrest, significantly increasing survival chances. 0

We then moved to the third part, which emphasized meticulous planning and thorough preparation for rescue operations. It was particularly important not to act blindly during rescue missions. One must remain calm, assess the situation comprehensively, and develop a scientifically sound rescue plan. After all, ensuring one’s own safety is paramount to effectively helping others; this principle is encapsulated in the idea of "Protecting Oneself to Save Others." 0

The final part involved an in-depth analysis of real-life case studies to deepen everyone's understanding of various rescue scenarios and response strategies. These cases covered a range of rescue missions, such as Fire Incidents, Landslides, and Flood Disasters. Each case detailed the sequence of events, the challenges faced, and the key factors that led to successful rescues. Through lively discussions on these three representative examples, everyone gained valuable insights and continuously improved their rescue methods. 0

These training activities were entirely motivated by our philanthropic spirit; we did not charge any fees. However, since the sessions typically lasted for a long time, the organizers kindly prepared a sumptuous lunch for us. Just as everyone was enjoying their meal, a sudden flurry of urgent phone notifications erupted. I put down my chopsticks out of curiosity and picked up my phone to find dozens of unread WeChat messages on the screen. 0

Upon opening WeChat, I was shocked by the content—it was news about a young person who had tragically drowned! The message included a video circulating online that appeared to have been filmed by either family members of the drowning victim or bystanders at the scene. After watching this video, our team members immediately began discussing it. 0

Some team members expressed that it had been a long time since our last rescue mission, and this incident provided an opportunity to reach out to those who filmed it to understand the situation better and see if we could offer assistance. Their enthusiasm and proactivity were commendable. However, other team members believed that despite everyone's good intentions, it would be best to follow a certain order before taking action—waiting for unified arrangements and instructions from our organization. After all, rescue work needs to be conducted systematically to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely. 0

One teammate seemed to have contacted the person who filmed the video; since they couldn’t reach the family directly, they suggested we go to the scene for communication while they helped us find the family. At that moment, lacking experience but eager for action upon hearing about a mission, we hurriedly prepared even before finishing our meal. Along with several new recruits from our team, we totaled around ten people and agreed to meet at Team Headquarters. 0

Our so-called Team Headquarters wasn’t an official venue; rather, it was a room generously provided free of charge by a warm-hearted citizen dedicated to public service. The space was located on the first floor and was roughly the size of a shop; below it was our storage area. We usually used this place for office work, meetings, and occasionally for team training. 0

By around one o'clock in the afternoon when we arrived at Team Headquarters, everyone greeted each other briefly before engaging in short discussions about estimating the situation at hand and how to contact the family. After some preparation, we made another call to confirm specific meeting details with those who filmed the video before setting off. 0
