Yu Chunmiao recounted the situation to Qi Rong, who burst into tears, completely losing her composure. A ten-year-old child, raised in a peaceful and unassuming household, was understandably frightened by such sudden upheaval.
As one person comforted her while another scolded, her cries eventually subsided. The couple had not brought any change of clothes with them and planned to buy a couple of outfits at their cousin's clothing shop after having a meal.
Qi Rong obediently practiced her writing and reading at home because Yu Chunmiao mentioned that Lu Ziyou, having passed the imperial examination, would easily secure her release. It turned out that protecting one's family did not solely rely on physical strength; it sparked within him a desire to pursue an official career.
Yu Chunmiao's cousin, Yu Chengzhi, was married to Lin Huai Shan, the young master of the Jin Xiu clothing store. The couple ran the shop together; they were not wealthy but lived a comfortable life.
Upon arriving at the shop, Yu Chengwei and his sister were busy balancing accounts. When Yu Chengzhi saw Yu Chunmiao, she was genuinely delighted and, despite her large belly, insisted on pouring them some tea. Yu Chunmiao declined her offer, and Yu Chengwei stepped in to help.
This cousin had spent years learning embroidery techniques at the county's embroidery workshop, and Yu Chunmiao rarely got to see her. Moreover, back then, she had seemed rather foolish and left little impression on him.
Yu Chengzhi expressed her sincere happiness for Yu Chunmiao after hearing about him from her brother. Just as the tea was served, a customer entered the shop, prompting Yu Chengwei to attend to them.
Yu Chunmiao looked at his cousin's belly with joy and said, "Cousin, I came here in a hurry with my husband this time and didn’t prepare any gifts for you. When your little nephew arrives, I will definitely bring you something special."
Yu Chengzhi had a delicate appearance and bore a resemblance to Yu Chunmiao. She smiled gently and replied, "We don’t know yet whether it’s a boy or a girl. A few days ago, my mother came to visit us and mentioned that an Old Immortal had come to the village, insisting that we consult him."

"You know him?" Yu Chengzhi was quite surprised. "He treated Old Sun’s leg in the village; after just a few needles, the swelling that had been there for ten years went down significantly. My mother said he was remarkable; that’s why I went to see him."
"Remarkable indeed! Otherwise, how could Qi Chong's leg have healed so quickly?"
Understanding their purpose for being there, Yu Chengzhi then led Yu Chunmiao to choose some clothing.
Suddenly recalling something, Qi Chongtu hurriedly asked her, "Cousin, have you heard anything about the Yu Chun Yuan family?"
After pondering for a moment, Yu Chengzhi replied, "I’ve heard about it. My mother said that day Kong Dongmei went to gather pigweed; as soon as she reached the village entrance, she was confronted by Yu Chun Yuan who demanded money for gambling. When Kong Dongmei refused, he got angry and attacked her."
Sighing deeply, she added, "Poor Kong Dongmei was heavily pregnant; when he pushed her down, she couldn’t get back up. I wonder how she is doing now."
"She blurted out, 'I lost the baby.'"
After a moment of shock, he lamented about how gambling ruins lives.
Two sets of clothing were chosen, and Lin Huai Shan also came to pick up the bride. He was responsible for measuring and tailoring clothes for guests, sometimes providing home service, which often kept him away from the shop.
After exchanging a few simple pleasantries, everyone returned to their homes.
That night, Yu Chunmiao could not stay out and had to spend the night at the Lu Residence. Lu Ziyou arranged a guest room for the couple. After they took a shower, they washed their clothes together, waiting for their hair to dry.
In the courtyard, they scrubbed their clothes as if it were just an ordinary day for a married couple, nothing out of the ordinary.
Yu Chunmiao felt no fear at all because Qi Chong was by her side. He had found witnesses for her and even thoughtfully inquired about what Old Pine Village had issued.
