"Let him go!" Qi Chong's deep and cold voice rang out as he approached Yu Chunmiao. His fists were clenched, his eyes glinting with cold light, and his expression darkened, fully prepared for a fight.
The Bearded Man released Yu Chunmiao upon seeing him, but he showed no fear of Qi Chong whatsoever. Yu Chunmiao fled to Qi Chong's side, where he pulled her behind him protectively.
"I am her fiancé. If you have something to say, say it to me," he declared.
The Bearded Man sized up Qi Chong and said, "Don't think I don't know. What kind of woman still wears braids? You must be her brother in disguise, or perhaps you two haven't been intimate yet?"
With Qi Chong present, Yu Chunmiao immediately stood her ground. She poked her head out and shouted, "You’re talking nonsense! I have a marriage certificate with him. How shameless! A toad trying to eat swan meat—you're ugly; you're dreaming!"
The Bearded Man laughed, grinning mischievously. "Little girl, you’re quite spicy; I like that. I'm genuinely interested in marrying you."
"Seeking death!" Qi Chong roared in fury, stepping forward to throw a punch.
The Bearded Man met him with a punch of his own.
When their fists collided, Qi Chong stood firm while the Bearded Man staggered back two steps. Shaking his sore hand, the Bearded Man looked at Qi Chong with admiration. "Not bad! I wasn't using my full strength just now; let's go again."
He swung another punch at Qi Chong, but this time Qi Chong didn't meet it with his fist; instead, he caught the punch with his left palm, stopping the Bearded Man's massive fist mid-air.
The two were secretly testing each other's strength.
Yu Chunmiao felt a bit worried for Qi Chong; the Bearded Man was dressed like a martial artist and had the build of a muscular man. When he exerted himself, his muscles bulged beneath his clothing. It was clear he was not someone to be trifled with.
Although Qi Chong was taller than him, he had a leaner physique. At first glance, it seemed that the Bearded Man had greater strength.
Yet now the Bearded Man wore an expression of disbelief; veins bulged on his forehead and his neck turned red from exertion. Meanwhile, Qi Chong remained calm and composed, his phoenix eyes fixed intently on him.
Perhaps sensing that the Bearded Man was using all his strength, Qi Chong suddenly exerted force and seized him by the wrist.
"She is my Qing Niangzi!" Qi Chong declared, emphasizing each word with weight.
The Bearded Man did not plead for mercy, but the trembling in his voice indicated his pain. Qi Chong released him and kicked him in the rear with his right leg. The Bearded Man stumbled but did not fall.
Qi Chong took Yu Chunmiao by the hand and was about to leave. He had exerted himself earlier, and his injured leg throbbed slightly, but after limping for just a couple of steps, it felt better.
"Wait a moment, young man!" The Bearded Man rushed in front of them, rubbing his sore hand.
Yu Chunmiao instinctively hid behind Qi Chong. "What do you want now?"
The Bearded Man cast a regretful glance at Yu Chunmiao but quickly masked it, turning to Qi Chong instead. "I've traveled far and wide over the years, and there are very few who possess greater strength than I do. Meeting you today truly makes me feel that there are always greater talents beyond our own."
"I was rude earlier; I didn't know that you were already married, Young Lady." He introduced himself, "My name is Wu Dayong, and I would like to be friends with you."
Qi Chong glanced at him and replied, "I’m not interested."
Wu Dayong was taken aback but quickly put on a smile again. Qi Chong had no intention of engaging with him and pulled Yu Chunmiao along as they walked straight out. Wu Dayong followed closely behind, chattering away.
"Young man, I genuinely want to be friends with you. Please give me a chance to make amends! Where are you headed? I'm going to Qingstone County; why not join me? I’ll treat you both to drinks and dinner!"
"Don't ignore me! We can discuss this!"
