"Change the song to something more fitting," Yu Chunmiao said.
"I forgot how it started. Maybe it was just this feeling I can't help but love you, babe. Say you love me too."
As the song ended, Qi Chong blushed and remarked, "That was nice, but why did you only sing half of that sweet song? I think that part is even better. Qing Niangzi, sing it for me."
"No!"
"Why not?"
"I forgot the lyrics."
"In this pure world of love, you are my only one."
As they sang, another carriage sped by, seemingly escaping from Yu Chunmiao's modern lyrical influence.
At the village entrance, they saw an old man with a bamboo tube hanging from his waist and a box on his back being stopped by Yang Zhengshan.
The old man showed no fear. "Is this road yours? I don't believe it. Today, I'm going through here, and we'll see what you can do about it!"
Yang Zhengshan, seeing that the man was a frail outsider, became even more arrogant. "I don’t care! I said you can't pass, so you can't pass. The Qi family lives up ahead; what do you need them for?"
Qi Chong glanced over and realized that Zhang Guiying had gone to fetch Old Doctor. He quickly called out, "Old Immortal, it's me!"
Old Immortal looked over and immediately smiled as he approached. "Qi Daizi, when did your family get a guard dog?"
Qi Chong halted the horses and replied, "I wouldn't hire a bone-less dog like you. Now, get in the carriage."
Old Immortal huffed at Yang Zhengshan before jumping into the carriage and sitting beside Qi Chong.
Yang Zhengshan's expression changed rapidly—worry, anger, and helplessness all mixed together.
Once inside the carriage, Old Immortal said, "That woman knelt outside my tree house for three days, which made me treat her for several more days. I just came back with her. I examined that patient and administered acupuncture and medicine; she should be fine in a month."
Qi Chong started the carriage and said, "Thank you, Old Immortal. I had no choice but to ask her to fetch you."
Yu Chunmiao stole a glance at Old Immortal. His hair and beard were white, but his skin looked remarkably good. He truly embodied the saying of having an aged appearance with youthful vitality.
Sighing, Old Immortal replied with a hint of resignation, "I'm not heartless; it was because your father was at a loss that I didn't come earlier. That woman seemed harsh to me, so I didn't want to deal with her. But for her son’s sake, she was willing to humble herself and came to me."
Yu Chunmiao nodded and said softly, "Women are inherently weak; for their children, they become strong."
Only then did Old Immortal notice Yu Chunmiao.
Yu Chunmiao was petite; he hadn’t really seen her while she was beside Qi Chong just moments ago.
He leaned forward to take a look at Yu Chunmiao and said, "Hmm, this girl has a good appearance; she's quite promising." Qi Chong's lips curled into a smug smile as he introduced Yu Chunmiao. After exchanging a few more words, they arrived at the entrance of the house.
The first to greet them was Qian Duo Duo. He circled around the carriage a few times, grunted a couple of times, and then returned to his doghouse, his ears drooping and his tail no longer wagging.
"Mother, Yuan Er, look who’s here!" Qi Chong called out loudly before even stepping inside.
Mother and Son came out to see Old Immortal and quickly ushered him into the Hall.
Yu Chunmiao prepared a bowl of Xian Cao Mi for Gui Zhi Mi using Lu Ziyou's recipe.
Old Immortal heard Qi Family calling him Old Immortal repeatedly and waved his hand, saying, "Don't call me that. My surname is Shi, just Shi Song. I'm not old; I'm only in my forties."
Chen Ruolan quickly corrected herself, calling out, "Shi Brother."
Qi Yuan also chimed in with a cheerful, "Shi Bo Bo!"
The Xian Cao Mi was all prepared in the backyard, and the three assistants were bustling in and out while Qi Yuan went to help.
Yu Chunmiao brought a bowl over and handed it to Shi Song, saying, "This is homemade; please give it a try."
Shi Song picked it up, first sniffing it before taking a couple of bites. "Hmm, Rice Flour," he remarked.
Yu Chunmiao quickly shouted, "No! It's Xian Cao!"
Then she lowered her voice and added, "Don't say it out loud," glancing at the passing assistants.
Shi Song closed his mouth and focused on eating the Xian Cao Mi.
A brief silence fell over the Hall.
