"Don't worry about what Brother is doing; you'll get your share when the time comes," Qi Yuan said with a dismissive tone.
The herbal concoction had been simmering for two full hours, secured with cheesecloth around the edge of the Large Wooden Basin, and filtered twice. When Chen Ruolan and Qi Rong saw Yu Chunmiao pouring the sedimented gray liquid back in, their jaws dropped in astonishment.
Qi Rong exclaimed, "No matter how much of this stuff there is, he definitely won't eat it."
Chen Ruolan added, "Can this even be eaten? She uses it to mix with soil for planting vegetables!"
Meanwhile, Qi Yuan was busy working on carpentry in the yard, completely unaware of the commotion. Qi Chong, with a serious demeanor like a student eager to learn, asked, "What is the gray liquid used for?"
Yu Chunmiao smiled gently and explained, "Plant Ash is clean; the water becomes alkaline after settling, which helps the Xian Cao Juice to gel."
Her explanation felt vague—what did alkaline mean? What did gelling entail? The one thing that worried Yu Chunmiao was using Rice Flour instead of Tapioca Starch. Her grandmother had mentioned it but had never done it herself.
Once everything was prepared, she placed the small Large Wooden Basin into the larger one filled with water to cool down. Noticing that it was getting late, Qi Chong said, "Yu Chunmiao, start brewing your medicine with Mother; I'll cook some noodles for you."
Yu Chunmiao fanned herself with a Yao Luzi, her heart racing as if waiting for competition results. This method of making money had to succeed!
The more she cared, the less she dared to check on it. As a result, Qi Yuan was the first to bring good news.
He went to the backyard to wash his hands before dinner and noticed the green substance in the basin but didn't think much of it. However, as he passed by, he accidentally kicked the large Large Wooden Basin, causing water to slosh out.
Instinctively, he felt that the green liquid in the small Large Wooden Basin would spill out too and was startled. But when he looked closely, he saw that the liquid inside only quivered slightly, resembling tofu.
He gently poked it with his finger; the liquid had turned into a gel-like substance and formed a small opening where he poked.
"Sister-in-law! Brother! Come quickly! The Xian Cao Juice has turned into tofu!"
Yu Chunmiao was setting out bowls and chopsticks when she heard this and leaped three steps at once to check in the backyard. She brought the small Large Wooden Basin into the Kitchen and used a knife to cut it open; it had already solidified into a block.
Yu Chunmiao jumped up excitedly: "Look! It worked! This is Xian Cao Mi! Mother, melt some rock sugar into syrup; I'll serve you some!"
Chen Ruolan replied, "I can help melt the syrup, but I won't eat it; there's Zao Hui in it."
Qi Rong sneaked away quietly. Qi Chong poured the cooked noodles into the bowl, eagerly anticipating the taste of the Xian Cao Mi that Yu Chunmiao had prepared.
Once the Xian Cao Mi was placed in the bowl, Yu Chunmiao cut it into small pieces and drizzled it with syrup. The first bowl was handed to Grandma, who passed it to Qi Yuan. "You go ahead and eat."
Not noticing any Zao Hui Shui, Qi Yuan picked up a spoon and brought it to his mouth. The unique fragrance of the Xian Cao Mi combined with the sweet syrup, along with its chewy texture, instantly captivated Qi Yuan's taste buds. He took a big mouthful and swallowed it with a satisfying squeeze of his jaws.
"It's cool and sweet, Mother, you should try it!"
Chen Ruolan took the second bowl from Yu Chunmiao's hands and handed it to Qi Chong. After tasting it, Qi Chong was equally amazed. "Yu Chunmiao, this is truly delicious! Just keep making it; I have ways to sell it."
Chen Ruolan was taken aback. "Sell it? Don't let anyone get sick from eating it!"
