Yu Chunmiao was so frightened that her legs felt weak. She hurriedly asked her brother-in-law, Qi Rong, "Why are there still wolves on the mountain? They won't come looking for us, will they?"
Qi Rong listened intently as the wolves howled a few more times. With a tone of maturity beyond his years, he reassured her, "Sister-in-law, don't be afraid. The wolves are still two mountain ridges away. Besides, it's just a lone wolf. By the time it gets here, we'll already be home."
Yu Chunmiao was half-convinced, but for the sake of money, she steeled herself and continued digging.
Before long, rustling sounds came from the nearby bushes, accompanied by grunting noises from an animal. The commotion was quite loud.
Yu Chunmiao and Qi Rong exchanged glances simultaneously.
"Sister-in-law, stay crouched and don't move. Let me take a look," Qi Rong said fearlessly as he slowly stood up to investigate.
As soon as he stood up, he spotted a mother wild boar with a litter of piglets rooting around in the ground, heading in their direction.
The protective mother boar was quick and fierce; Qi Rong knew he couldn't handle it. He scanned the nearby terrain and found nothing to hide behind.
"Sister-in-law, it's a wild boar."
Upon hearing this, Yu Chunmiao trembled in fear. "What should we do?"
Qi Rong recalled what his elder brother had told him about wild boars and remained calm. "Don't be scared; it's still far away. Can you climb trees?"
In this era, Yu Chunmiao couldn't climb trees. She had done it once when she was younger on a loquat tree, but that was long ago. Regardless, she thought she could manage it.
"I can try," she said uncertainly.
Qi Rong pointed to a pine tree and instructed, "When I tell you to climb, just focus on getting up there. Sit on the second branch; the wild boar can't reach you."
Yu Chunmiao looked at the tree, which had a trunk about thirty centimeters wide. The first branch was less than three meters up; if she could grab that branch, climbing wouldn't be too difficult.
"I'll listen to you," she replied.
After they agreed on the plan, Qi Rong picked up a sturdy stick and crouched down as he approached the wild boar.
Yu Chunmiao felt both scared and worried. Qi Rong was so small; how could he possibly fight off a wild boar? What would she tell her mother-in-law if something happened?
No matter what, she was an adult; she couldn't let a child take such risks. Just as she was about to head towards Qi Rong, she heard him shout, "Sister-in-law, climb quickly!"
Yu Chunmiao immediately stood up and saw that fifty meters away, Qi Rong was throwing stones at the wild boar to draw its attention towards himself!
How could this be right? Yu Chunmiao thought as she tried to run towards him. But before she could take two steps, she saw Qi Rong swiftly climb a tree. He grabbed onto the loquat tree stump with one hand while waving his stick at the approaching wild boar with the other.
Seeing that her brother-in-law was temporarily safe, Yu Chunmiao decided to stick to their original plan. She couldn't let him down by failing to climb the tree herself.
She grasped onto the loquat tree stump and pushed with her feet as she struggled to climb higher.
The original body was far too weak, and Yu Chunmiao felt that even with her Primordial Power, she was still crawling at a snail's pace. How could she not cover even three meters?
The piglets seemed to have hidden away, while Mother Boar relentlessly charged at the tree Qi Rong was climbing. Fortunately, she had chosen a sturdy camphor tree, which Mother Boar couldn't knock down easily.
But Yu Chunmiao was still within the wild boar's attack range. Seeing that she couldn't break through Qi Rong's position, Mother Boar turned her attention to the more vulnerable Yu Chunmiao and started running toward her tree.
"Sister-in-law, hurry!" Qi Rong shouted as she jumped down from the tree and ran toward the piglets.
