When Yu Chunmiao truly woke up, the sight before her was Qi Chong's head turned to the side, his body passively held by her. She sprang up with a speed that surpassed even the rush of being late for work.
Her first concern was whether she had pressed down on Qi Chong's injured leg, but thankfully, he seemed to be stable. Only then did she feel relieved enough to get out of bed, not forgetting to check his temperature one last time.
As soon as she closed the door, the man opened his eyes. He reached out to feel the warmth left beside him, an unusual sensation still coursing through his body.
The high-hanging sun reminded Yu Chunmiao that she had missed the time to give Qi Chong his painkiller. Without bothering to eat, she hurriedly brought the medicine into the room to wake him up.
Qi Chong didn’t pretend to be asleep anymore; he cooperatively sat up to take the medicine.
"You scared me last night; your body was so hot it could have cooked pancakes," Yu Chunmiao said as she fed him the medicine.
Qi Chong didn’t remember much about last night, except for the shock Yu Chunmiao had given him that morning. He was very grateful for her attentive care.
"You’ve worked hard!"
Yu Chunmiao smiled sweetly, her dimples accentuating her delicate features. "Doctor Yu always says you have a good constitution; I wondered how good it could be. Last night, you were burning up and couldn’t even keep down the medicine, but now you’re better."
As she spoke, she recalled how she had used her mouth to administer the medicine in a moment of desperation. She hadn’t thought much of it at the time, but now remembering it made her ears turn red.
However, Qi Chong was oblivious to this detail, so she didn’t feel too shy about it.
In the evening, Qi Yuan returned home with a toilet he had made. After taking care of his brother's needs and cleaning up afterward, he found Qi Chong.
"Big Brother, Sister-in-law is really impressive; she's smarter than Zhi Duo Xing in the sky! After I finished making the toilet and everyone asked what it was, guess what happened?"
Qi Chong gave him a look that encouraged him to continue.
Qi Yuan excitedly said, "At that moment, there was a family in the courtyard looking at furniture. After I explained it to my shixiongdi, they immediately ordered three of them, saying they wanted one in each room."
Qi Chong rolled his eyes at his brother. "You shouldn’t have said that; who knows if this could be a money-making opportunity? When you come back next time and make them yourself, it’ll save her from running into the mountains every day."
Upon hearing this, Qi Yuan slapped his forehead and exclaimed, "Why didn’t I think of that? Next time Sister-in-law has an idea, I swear I won’t say a word!"
He had only known Yu Chunmiao for a few days, but he had seen the changes in their home. They were eating better food now and having meat every day. Their mother’s cough had improved, and his brother’s leg could also be treated.
He felt an unspoken guilt for wasting one of her ideas.
Qi Chong noticed his brother's expression and comforted him. "Don’t think too much about it; after all, you’ve studied with Xiao Shi for three years, and he treats you well. We haven’t really repaid him yet; consider this a gift."
After saying this, Qi Chong suddenly coughed a few times, causing pain in his injured leg.
Qi Yuan quickly poured him a bowl of water. "Big Brother, you don’t know; last night you couldn’t even drink water! Sister-in-law was so anxious she used her mouth to give it to you."
Upon hearing this, Qi Chong choked on a sip of water and coughed even harder.
Qi Yuan hurriedly patted his back, urging him not to rush. "Don't worry, don't worry. Sister-in-law only crossed the river once, and later she used a reed pole to help you."
Is there any difference?
As night fell, Qi Chong found it hard to sleep. The thought of his brother's words sent a tingling sensation spreading from his lips to his chest, then to his limbs and deep into his heart.
The next day, Chen Ruolan was assigned to take care of Qi Chong at home while Yu Chunmiao and Qi Rong continued their work on the mountain, digging for Banxia.
After several days of digging, Uncle and Aunt had ventured further away, and their two baskets were still not full when Yu Chunmiao heard a wolf howl in the distance.
