A single word made Yu Chunmiao feel uneasy. In such an honest family, who would come looking for trouble? Qi Rong went straight to the backyard to fetch water for the clams and wash the wild vegetables, while the two mothers-in-law headed to the kitchen. 0

As soon as Yu Chunmiao entered the kitchen, she saw a tall figure with their back turned to her, leaning on a crutch and stirring something in a pot that smelled like wild vegetables, specifically Huang Mi Zhou. Qi Chong heard footsteps behind him and his heart skipped a beat, causing him to pause his stirring. 0

Seeing her sweaty daughter-in-law, Chen Ruolan felt a pang of sympathy and quickly said, "Give me the basket. You should go drink some water and take a break; your voice must be hoarse from calling out this morning." 0

Yu Chunmiao was indeed thirsty and didn’t bother with false politeness. She walked over to the wooden rack by the stove and poured herself a large bowl of water, gulping it down. After finishing, she poured another bowl for her mother-in-law. 0

After Chen Ruolan drank her water, Yu Chunmiao took the empty bowl to wash it. The water tank was right below the wooden rack; she just needed to scoop some water into the large wooden basin on the rack. 0

The porridge was ready. Qi Chong leaned on his crutch and walked over to grab some Taofen. The two of them approached the rack together, their eyes meeting. 0

Yu Chunmiao blinked her almond-shaped eyes at him, thinking he looked just like a male character from a novel—sharp eyebrows and bright eyes that seemed to hold stars within them. In just one glance, she found herself captivated by Qi Chong's dark eyes, her heart racing uncontrollably as a blush crept onto her cheeks. 0

Qi Chong's gaze fell on her slightly parted lips, still glistening from drinking water. They looked like delicate flowers dampened by morning dew, igniting an urge to lean in closer. His heart skipped two beats before it began to race wildly. 0

In just a few seconds of eye contact, both of them lost their composure. 0

Yu Chunmiao set down the bowl and was about to head to the backyard when Qi Chong inexplicably called out, "Where are you going? It’s time to eat." 0

"I’ll just wash my face and be right back," Yu Chunmiao replied while scolding herself for stuttering in front of handsome men—why couldn’t she shake off this habit? 0

Chen Ruolan observed everything with understanding. The way her son looked at his daughter-in-law reminded her of how her husband used to look at her years ago. It seemed her daughter-in-law had fallen into a trap of unspoken feelings. 0

She stepped forward to help wash the bowl and said to her son who was serving porridge, "Qi Chong, Qi Rong got into a fight today and it was quite intense." 0

Qi Chong furrowed his brows slightly and replied, "I see." 0

"Did you get hurt today?" Qi Chong called out with his deep voice towards the backyard. 0

Qi Rong replied defiantly, "Him? If you hadn’t intervened for me, I could have beaten him so badly that even his parents wouldn’t recognize him." 0

Chen Ruolan felt overwhelmed; how did she end up with three sons like him? Each one resembled their father—strong as oxen. Thankfully they were reasonable; otherwise, who knew how much trouble they would cause? 0

Yu Chunmiao splashed cold well water on her face three times before her temperature returned to normal. She sat beside Qi Rong to help wash the wild vegetables and asked, "What’s up with that little chubby boy you fought?" 0

Qi Rong replied angrily, "He’s my uncle’s son named Qi. Two months ago, my older brother went up the mountain to dig for bamboo shoots and saw a wild boar chasing my uncle. He went over to help." 0

"My brother didn’t bring his hunting knife or arrows that day; he couldn’t kill the boar with just a hoe and ended up getting his leg gored by its tusks. Despite having a broken leg, he fought off the boar and killed it." 0

At this point, Qi Rong became even more furious. He forcefully tossed a handful of Wild Mustard into the basin, splashing water everywhere. That person not only refused to help but took advantage of my elder brother being knocked out and ran off with the wild boar. 0

So what if he ran? He could at least send word! My mother, brother, and I searched the nearby mountains all night before we finally found him. My brother had a fever; his life was hanging by a thread, and it took him a month of medicine to recover. 0

"Damn it!" Yu Chunmiao shouted, her voice startling not only Qi Rong but also leaving the mother and son in the kitchen stunned. Was that noise really coming from a woman? 0

"Shameless, treacherous scoundrel!" Yu Chunmiao said as she slapped Qi Rong hard on the shoulder. "Well done! People like that deserve to be beaten every time you see them. Today’s punishment was too light; next time, he should be left searching for his teeth while wetting himself!" 0

Chen Ruolan slapped her forehead and remarked, "Not one family, not one door." 0

"That sister-in-law really knows how to hit the mark," Qi Rong replied. 0

"Absolutely! It feels good," Qi Chong added. 0
