A snotty worm dangled beneath the bulbous nose, and two thick lips curled outward, making for an utterly unattractive sight. Qi Ping sniffed and said, "Didn’t find any wild vegetables today? Looks like your family will go hungry then. I’m stewing meat for lunch; why don’t you come over? I’ll let you have a taste of the broth." 0

The two lackeys burst into laughter. 0

Qi Rong was unfazed by them, standing tall in front of Qi Ping, a whole head taller. It was as if he was saying, "What’s so great about eating meat? You still look like a short winter melon." 0

"You're my cousin; whether I eat meat or not doesn’t matter. But you should treat that big dog, Er Gou, well. After all, he follows you around like a loyal servant, doesn’t he?" Qi Rong continued, turning to the big dog, Er Gou. "Did my cousin invite you over for lunch?" 0

The two dogs exchanged glances; they hadn’t heard anything about that. 0

Er Gou licked his lips and asked, "Qi Ping, are you really stewing meat at home? Can we come over for some?" 0

There was no meat at all; Qi Ping was just boasting in front of Qi Rong. 0

"All you think about is food," Qi Ping scolded the two dogs. "What did I even call you here for?" 0

The big dog, eager for meat, smiled ingratiatingly and said, "We’ll do the work; can we at least get a piece of meat? Just one piece each will do." 0

Qi Ping’s chubby face turned red with anger. How could he admit that there was no meat at home? That would be embarrassing! What if he didn’t agree to the two dogs and they refused to help later? 0

He couldn’t understand why he felt so miserable after just one comment when he had come looking for trouble. 0

Ignoring the two dogs for now, he decided to vent his anger on Qi Rong: "I heard your lame brother married a foolish wife? A cripple with a fool—what a perfect match!" 0

Qi Rong’s temper flared up. His sister-in-law was not foolish at all! But it was true that his brother was lame, and Qi Ping knew exactly how he had become that way. 0

With a cold snort, he replied, "If it weren’t for saving your father, my brother wouldn’t be lame! Instead of helping him see a doctor, you come here to mock him. Has your family’s conscience been eaten by dogs?" 0

The two dogs chimed in: "We don’t eat their conscience; we just want to eat meat." 0

Qi Ping put his hands on his hips and mocked, "Who told your brother to be so foolish? When the wild boar came, he didn’t even know to run! If he wasn’t lame, who would be?" 0

The two dogs insisted: "We really want to eat meat." 0

Qi Rong was furious but remembered what his father and brother had instructed him—not to strike first. He had to channel his anger into words: "Your father is a coward! When he sees a wild boar, it’s like seeing Yama King; he gets so scared he wets himself! If it weren’t for my brother, the boar’s tusks would have gone right up his backside." 0

"My brother got lame from being gored by a wild boar, but even with one leg injured, he still managed to kill it! Unlike your father who wets himself at the sight of a boar and sneaks away with it while smelling like urine. Who craves meat? I think it’s your family that craves it—how does urine-scented meat taste?" 0

The two dogs retorted: "Meat? You didn’t invite us!" 0

"My father isn’t a coward! He didn’t wet himself; he killed the wild boar!" Qi Ping shouted angrily as he pushed Qi Rong. 0

The two quickly got into a scuffle. 0
