Chen Ruolan glanced towards Qi Chong's room and asked Qi Rong, "Is your elder brother still not coming out for dinner?" 0

Qi Rong, sitting upright at the dining table, replied with a hint of concern in his voice, "He said his leg hurts badly. I'll take him some food later." 0

Upon hearing this, Chen Ruolan frowned but chose not to say anything further. 0

Yu Chunmiao stood by the stove, hesitating to join the table. 0

"Come on, it's time to eat!" Chen Ruolan called out warmly. 0

Nervously fiddling with the hem of her clothes, she recalled that in her memories, both she and Qi Qin were never allowed to sit at the table. It wasn't just about missing a meal; they would also face punishment from Yu Daman. She wondered if it was customary for women in this era to stay away from the table or if it was only after becoming a mother-in-law that they were permitted to join. 0

Once, her sister-in-law had enthusiastically invited her to the table, but after being slapped twice by Yu Daman, she was locked in the woodshed. That winter had been brutal; she nearly froze to death. Her sister-in-law had watched her like she was a joke, as if to say, "What a fool, so easily deceived." All her rations that day ended up in her sister-in-law's stomach. 0

She couldn't help but wonder if this kind-hearted new mother-in-law would also resort to such tactics. Wasn't it customary for new brides in rural areas to establish their authority? 0

Seeing the new sister-in-law standing there frozen, Qi Rong became more convinced that she was indeed foolish. With chicken soup available, why wasn't she coming over? He couldn't wait any longer; his little feet were tapping on the floor beneath the table, making a thudding sound in his impatience. 0

"Come on! In our house, we don't have rules against women sitting at the table," Chen Ruolan said as she gently pushed Yu Chunmiao into a seat. She filled a large bowl with chicken soup and added a chicken leg. 0

"Eat up! Our family is poor and can't afford a wedding feast. We're just having a nice meal to welcome you; don't be picky." 0

After saying this, Chen Ruolan turned and coughed a few times before filling another bowl with chicken soup and some pieces of meat for her son. "This is for your brother; I'll take it to him later." 0

Qi Rong responded with an "Okay!" and served himself some chicken soup. He gulped down an entire bowl in one go and then filled another half bowl before starting on some wild vegetables. He took small sips of soup alongside them and focused on finishing every piece of meat he could manage, even gnawing on the bones. 0

Chen Ruolan offered him another chicken leg, but he turned and placed it into his elder brother's bowl instead. "Mom, leave the meat for my brother and you. You both need to eat more since you're not well." 0

Yu Chunmiao felt touched by this display of understanding from her brother-in-law. She thought she had come into a good family. If the mother-in-law had been as harsh as described by others, such filial piety wouldn’t have been nurtured; however, she was curious about what kind of person lived inside. 0

Having navigated through ten years in a male-dominated workplace, she had honed her skills in reading people and managing relationships adeptly. Otherwise, she would have been devoured by those male riders' girlfriends long ago. 0

She could quickly discern who was good and who was bad. 0

Taking a big bite of wild vegetables paired with a sip of chicken soup, she placed the chicken leg into her brother-in-law's bowl. Qi Rong paused his eating and stared intently at Yu Chunmiao, who was smiling brightly at him. 0

The new sister-in-law seemed quite nice; her smile was beautiful. 0

"What are you doing? You should eat for yourself," Chen Ruolan said as she reached to take back the chicken leg. 0

Yu Chunmiao reached out and grabbed a Chicken Foot, saying, "I love eating this." 0

This was the first time Yu Chunmiao spoke after crossing over, and both the people at the dining table and she herself were surprised. 0

Oh my, her voice was delicate and soft, truly pleasant to hear. It was a stark contrast to the somewhat rough voice she had before. 0
