The next day, Lin Xiao woke up early and took Meng Kai to a breakfast shop in the East District.
"Director Luo, what a coincidence!" Lin Xiao said as she sat down with a bowl of soy milk opposite Luo Qianwei.
Luo Qianwei was startled and quickly looked around, relieved to see that it was only Lin Xiao and Meng Kai.
"Lin Xiao, you really know how to show up," Luo Qianwei said, giving Lin Xiao an annoyed glare.
"You need to change your habits," Lin Xiao replied, smiling even more at the sight of Luo Qianwei's disgruntled expression.
After all, Luo Qianwei was the director of the office. During festivals, when the townships needed to ask the county head for funds, they would inevitably have to consult Luo Qianwei and Lin Xiao about Li Hao's whereabouts.
Lin Xiao played dumb about it. As the office director, Luo Qianwei certainly wouldn’t be as carefree as Lin Xiao; he preferred to keep a low profile. He would go around half the city just to have breakfast at this shop in the East District.
Meng Kai was surprised that Lin Xiao could actually catch Luo Qianwei here, feeling a bit more respect for her.
"Xiao Meng, go get Uncle Luo a tea egg," Lin Xiao instructed.
With so many people outside, Lin Xiao naturally wouldn’t call out "Director Luo." She knew that Luo Qianwei liked to order tea eggs last.
"Lin Xiao, don’t think you can win me over with just one tea egg," Luo Qianwei said with annoyance.
"Uncle Luo, if you don’t pay, I can’t treat you to a tea egg either," Lin Xiao replied dismissively.
Luo Qianwei initially thought Lin Xiao was polite and not suited to be a township head, but seeing her mischievous side reminded him of Li Hongxin.
After finishing breakfast, Lin Xiao had Meng Kai ride on Luo Qianwei’s electric scooter back to the County Government while she took the bus with Luo Qianwei.
"Come on, how much do you want? The funds are limited; we can’t be stingy. Every township asks for money; they’ll take whatever they can get."
"Ten thousand," Lin Xiao held up three fingers.
"Then don’t even think about it," Luo Qianwei flatly refused.
"Director Luo, if the county head approves it, can you give ten thousand?" Lin Xiao asked meaningfully.
"The county head approved it?" Luo Qianwei was taken aback.
As soon as he said that, Lin Xiao guessed that ten thousand might not be impossible after all.
"Director Luo, what do you think it would take for the County Head to agree to allocate the funds?" Lin Xiao asked earnestly.
"Unless you give him the money upfront, don’t even think about it," Luo Qianwei replied, making things difficult.
"Yes, I was thinking the same thing," Lin Xiao acknowledged. "If Gengxu Town can increase tax revenue for the County Government, the County Head should agree."
"Lin Xiao, you know that Gengxu Town has indeed developed quite well, but it’s currently hitting a bottleneck. After all, it’s not a famous tourist destination," Luo Qianwei pointed out.
"Exactly. That’s why I have some ideas to report to the County Head. You should prepare three million; if he agrees, you can’t say no," Lin Xiao simply shared his thoughts with Luo Qianwei.
After listening, Luo Qianwei felt that Lin Xiao's approach was worth trying. "Have you communicated with Secretary Li about this?"
"I have. Secretary Li said that as long as I can secure the funds, he has no objections," Lin Xiao replied. He had called Li Hongxin after meeting with a client yesterday.
Li Hongxin was the Secretary and the top leader; as the town mayor, Lin Xiao needed to unite his team. If Li Hongxin were to create obstacles for him, it would take a lot of effort just to deal with him.
Li Hao had shown kindness to Li Hongxin; as long as Lin Xiao didn’t overstep, Li Hongxin wouldn’t make things difficult for him.
Seeing that Lin Xiao had arranged everything well, Luo Qianwei felt more confident that he could secure the funds. "Alright then, just don’t mention that you consulted me. Say that the County Head pressured you into this."
"You can count on me," Lin Xiao assured her.
The two seemed to return to their days working in the government office when Luo Qianwei entrusted tasks to Lin Xiao without worry; he always exceeded her expectations.
