At eight o'clock in the evening, Lin Xiao finally dropped off the last boss. Li Hao was waiting for Lin Xiao in the government courtyard of Gengxu Town.
"You must have been exhausted when you were the county head," Lin Xiao said as she settled into the passenger seat, her voice hoarse.
"Did you run into any issues with the accounts before the holiday?" Li Hao guessed without needing to think.
"Yeah, Li Hong has been hiding out in the county lately. Whenever there's a meeting in the county, he shows up," she replied.
"He's quite the slippery one," Li Hao remarked, staring ahead.
"Then why do you still rely on him?" Lin Xiao asked, feeling a bit touched.
"I know you don't like him," Li Hao said, glancing at Lin Xiao. "But as someone in a higher position, personal preferences aren't that important. What matters is whether he's suitable for his role."
"Ah? Is it that obvious?" Lin Xiao's expression fell; she thought she had concealed her feelings well.
"Others probably can't see it. I'm your old man after all," Li Hao said with pride in his voice.
This pleased Lin Xiao and lifted her spirits.
"I'm planning to go to the county tomorrow to ask Luo Qianwei for funds, then I'll meet with the County Head. What do you think?"
"Sounds feasible," Li Hao replied, feeling a mix of emotions inside.
He regretted agreeing not to interfere in Lin Xiao's affairs. He knew that Lin Xiao was a quick learner who could grasp key points easily.
If she could manage people, finances, and power effectively, her position would be secure; and finances and power were paramount.
Gengxu Town had better financial resources due to tourism development projects compared to other townships, but it still faced substantial engineering payment demands.
Yurou County was quite impoverished, with a weak industrial foundation. It had only recently shed its poor status thanks to the tourism development of Cui Ping Mountain, which brought revenue back to support the county's finances.
Lin Xiao was going to ask for money from the county, but it was certain they wouldn't provide her with what she truly wanted.
"Isn't this the way back to the hotel?" Lin Xiao was engrossed in conversation and only realized after a while that they were headed in the wrong direction.
"It's inconvenient to stay at a hotel all the time when I have to be here for a while, so I rented a house," Li Hao said as he turned into a village while navigating with his phone.
"Are you really going to stay here with me?" Lin Xiao thought that when Li Hao said "stay," he meant bringing Tian Tian along to keep her company.
Li Hao reached over with one hand and ruffled Lin Xiao's hair. "Haven't I already said? I'm here to accompany you."
If it weren't for being in the car, Lin Xiao felt she would definitely give him a big hug. In the heat of the moment, she pulled down his hand from above and kissed him tenderly.
"Li Hao," she said, her voice carrying a hint of emotion. "I love you." Lin Xiao wrapped her arms around Li Hao's, expressing her feelings deeply.
It seemed that Li Hao had never heard Lin Xiao express her love so passionately before. His heart felt like it was caught in a hurricane, waves crashing against rocks, spreading warmth throughout his body.
He pressed down on the brake, bringing the car to a steady stop by the roadside. Lin Xiao looked at him in confusion, unsure why he had stopped.
Without giving her a chance to think, Li Hao turned to embrace Lin Xiao and kissed her.
The temperature inside the car soared as silence enveloped them, broken only by their heartbeats and the mingling of their lips.
After a moment, Lin Xiao quietly nestled in Li Hao's arms, listening to his strong heartbeat and feeling an overwhelming sense of security.
"Lin Xiao, I love you too."
Tears streamed down Lin Xiao's face like a burst dam, soaking his shirt.
