Lin Xiao woke up in the middle of the night to find Li Hao smoking by the window.
"Do you have something on your mind?" she asked, wrapping her arms around him.
Li Hao was unsure how to respond. She had ignited a fire within him, and after she fell asleep, he had taken care of it himself.
As soon as they got into bed, she instinctively snuggled into his embrace, reigniting his desire.
"Lin Xiao, I want to try this with you. Are you afraid?" He turned to hold her gently, asking carefully.
Lin Xiao shook her head in his arms. Compared to more than a month ago, she was no longer as fearful; she enjoyed his touch.
Li Hao removed his bathrobe, revealing a strong physique with not an ounce of excess fat.
Lin Xiao recalled a saying: clothes make one look slim, but undressing reveals the body.
This time, she didn't hesitate; she took off her bathrobe and stepped forward to embrace him. "Li Hao, I don't know how to do this. Please teach me."
"Lin Xiao, don’t worry about learning. Just do what you feel like doing. If you don’t want to continue at any point, just tell me; I won’t force you," Li Hao comforted her gently as he held her close.
They lay down together, and this time he turned her over onto him, just as he had done last time. He wanted to give her control so she could feel everything for herself.
Lin Xiao was determined to try this out, recalling Li Hao's movements from a month ago.
He pulled Lin Xiao closer and flipped over, pinning her beneath him. "Are you tired? Let me take care of it."
"Baby, relax. Don’t be nervous; just close your eyes and feel."
Under Li Hao's soothing whispers, Lin Xiao felt his kisses—so earnest and meticulous.
She let out sounds of pleasure that felt different from last time.
Li Hao sensed this change and realized that Lin Xiao's reactions were completely different from before.
In that moment, he had never felt so fulfilled—only for her satisfaction.
He held Lin Xiao tightly in his arms. "Baby, you're so beautiful—especially beautiful."
Lin Xiao melted against him, feeling his warmth.
"Does it still hurt?"
Lin Xiao shook his head, feeling that this time it didn't hurt, just a pleasant sensation.
Li Hao, not daring to exert too much force, only wanted to finish quickly. The discomfort of wearing that thing lingered. Suddenly, Lin Xiao felt a cool breeze.
"Then let's have a child," Li Hao said, his deep voice carrying a sense of determination. He didn't even realize that deep down, he had long wanted to spend his life with Lin Xiao, raising children together.
"Maybe we should," Lin Xiao thought hazily, remembering they weren't even married yet.
When Li Hao arrived, Lin Xiao was already there. He embraced Lin Xiao and stepped into the bathtub. Having learned from past experiences, he observed for a long time; when he saw there was no bleeding, he finally relaxed.
It took so long that Lin Xiao became shy to the point of nearly suffocating himself. As he held Lin Xiao while sleeping, Li Hao felt refreshed and full of happiness—this was truly wonderful.
In the hotel lobby, Li Hao and Lin Xiao sat face to face, having breakfast.
Xiao Tian approached with a tray and greeted Li Hao enthusiastically. "Li Secretary, you seem to be recovering well."
"Good morning, Xiao Director. Last time you visited with Lin Xiao, I couldn't host you due to my situation," Li Hao replied with a smile.
Hearing this, Xiao Tian thought to himself how fortunate it was that he had listened to Lin Xiao's suggestion that day; it seemed they had almost pulled it off. "Li Secretary, did you come to Changlin yesterday?"
"I came to report on work yesterday and ran into Lin Xiao in the elevator; that's how I found out you were here. What a coincidence!" This was Li Hao's excuse for dragging Lin Xiao along for breakfast.
His reasoning was simple: if she didn't join him for breakfast and others saw them separately, it would seem strange. Meeting an acquaintance and sitting together for breakfast was quite normal, so Lin Xiao was easily persuaded.
Li Hao hadn't necessarily planned to report on work yesterday; upon hearing that Lin Xiao was coming, he rushed over around four o'clock to handle the report.
"Our Lin Xiao got promoted last week; truly strong soldiers have no weak generals—all thanks to your excellent training back in the day, Li Secretary," Xiao Tian interjected smoothly, eager to flatter and show appreciation for the care Li Hao had shown towards Lin Xiao.
Li Hao noted that Xiao Tian was Lin Xiao's direct superior and maintained a very friendly attitude.
After chatting for a while, he left. Xiao Tian was there, but he and Lin Xiao couldn't really talk much, almost like they were having an affair.
Once Li Hao was gone, Xiao Tian began to praise him again, and he didn't forget to compliment Lin Xiao as well. After what happened this morning, Xiao Tian had started to notice something unusual; the relationship between Lin Xiao and Li Hao was not ordinary. The high-profile reception during the last research trip and this coincidental encounter had too many coincidences to be mere chance.
Li Hao had never intended to hide anything from Xiao Tian. A person as perceptive as Xiao Tian should have already figured it out. Although Lin Xiao was smart, navigating these complex interpersonal relationships was still somewhat new to her.
"Why didn’t you tell me about the promotion?" Li Hao texted her right after their conversation.
Lin Xiao considered mentioning it to him but felt it would come off as too deliberate, like a child bragging about a test score, which would seem rather foolish. After thinking it over, she decided to reply that she had forgotten.
“How did you celebrate with Lin Xiao?” Li Hao's message came again.
How did he know?
She had taken Lin Xiao out for a meal and then bought her two sets of sportswear and a pair of sneakers while getting herself an outfit as well. Lin Xiao pondered for a moment before deciding to respond honestly.
Li Hao put down his phone, feeling a twinge of jealousy. This must have been a significant event for her.
