On the day when the executives from Original Company arrived uninvited, I was reviewing the product compliance report.
“Li Siyue, can we talk?” Wu Zhifeng, who usually exuded an aggressive demeanor, had suddenly softened his tone.
“Sorry, I’m busy.” I didn’t even look up.
“I suggest you first address the quality issues with your products.”
Zhang Yuanliang stood awkwardly to the side.
I knew why they were here—their products were being abandoned by the market, and they couldn’t find new investors.
“Our team has been putting in a lot of overtime lately…” Zhang Yuanliang tried to explain.
“So what?” I interrupted coldly. “Can working overtime cover up the flaws in your product architecture?”
Picking up the compliance report beside me, I listed their issues one by one: “User data security vulnerabilities, performance bottlenecks, chaotic interface interactions—are these things that can be solved by working extra hours?”
“Just give us some time…” Wu Zhifeng said, his voice lowered.
“Alright.” I smirked.
“By next Monday, send me a Preliminary Plan for rectifying all the issues.”
The outcome was predictable.
Zhang Yuanliang’s team pulled all-nighters for a week, but the Preliminary Plan they submitted was still riddled with flaws.
"I've rejected the preliminary plan; I suggest reconsidering the product positioning," I replied briefly in the email.
The financial situation of Original Company has become extremely tight.
Every day of delay accelerates their collapse.
Zhang Yuanliang's team has completely fallen apart.
Some have resigned, others are on sick leave, and the remaining members sit at their desks, pale and mechanically tapping away at their keyboards.
"Li Siyue, you're ruthless," Zhang Yuanliang suddenly messaged me.
I recalled the various difficulties he had caused me in the past and replied, "This isn't ruthlessness; it's professionalism."
Not long after, Zhang Yuanliang applied for an extended leave.
It was said that he even complained to the company about me, claiming I was deliberately targeting his team.
"Li Siyue," a colleague from the Legal Department suddenly approached me.
"Your previous company's product is suspected of plagiarizing our code. Are we going to sue them?"
Just as I was about to respond, my phone rang unexpectedly.
The Investor's call came out of nowhere.
"Li Siyue, you'll be attending next week's industry conference, right?"
"Of course," I said with a smile, "I will also invite some old friends."
Sure enough, a week later, I saw familiar faces at the industry conference.
Zhang Yuanliang and his team were huddled in a corner, and their expressions clearly showed panic the moment they spotted me.
They probably didn't expect to see me here as the Product Director of my new company.
On stage, the Investor was delivering the opening speech.
"What do we value most in the internet industry?" the Investor Representative asked.
"It is integrity and a responsible attitude towards users."
A slight smile crept onto my lips. Integrity? Responsibility towards users? How ironic those words were.
"Next, we invite the emerging product expert, Ms. Li Siyue, to share with us."
I walked confidently onto the stage and opened the prepared PowerPoint presentation.
"Today, I would like to share a case study with you." I scanned the audience, my gaze lingering on Zhang Yuanliang's face for a second.
"It's about how a company deceived both investors and users with false data."
Zhang Yuanliang's face turned ashen in an instant.
I began to present the evidence: tampered user data, fake growth reports, and subpar outsourced code.
Each slide of the presentation struck the management of Original Company like a heavy hammer.
"These actions not only violate business ethics but also involve illegal activities." I presented a complete investigation report.
"Our Lawyer Team has prepared the relevant documents."
The audience erupted in chaos.
Zhang Yuanliang attempted to stand up and leave, but was stopped by the Investor's people.
"Li Siyue! You are seeking revenge!" he shouted hysterically.
"No, this is about upholding justice in the industry," I replied calmly.
"As a product person, we have a responsibility to maintain the industry's bottom line."
A week later, the lawyer's letter was sent out.
Three months later, Original Company announced bankruptcy due to a broken funding chain.
Wu Zhifeng was investigated for fraud, and Zhang Yuanliang had no choice but to change careers.
