Yun Yi continued to dig deeper with his iron pickaxe. Each time he descended about a hundred meters, he would repeat the same process he had followed before. Down he went, repairing the durable tools, digging again, and continuing to make repairs—this cycle repeated endlessly.
The unfathomable cave made him almost forget the concept of time. An hour? Several hours? A day? Perhaps even longer; he could no longer recall the exact passage of time. His mind was consumed by a single thought: keep digging down!
With the efficiency-enhanced iron pickaxe, it wasn’t long before Yun Yi's backpack was filled to the brim with Rock Blocks. He even had to craft two additional boxes to store more Rock Blocks, and those quickly filled up as well. Looking at the packed space in his backpack, Yun Yi roughly calculated his haul: over seven thousand Rock Blocks in total.
Based on the method of stacking four blocks per layer and accounting for some potential waste, he estimated that he was now nearly two kilometers below the surface. The deepest natural cave in this realm was the Flatkina Cave, which barely exceeded two thousand meters in depth. In this short span of time, he was on the verge of surpassing that record.
However, compared to the Kola Superdeep Borehole—the deepest human-made hole in history—he still had a long way to go. That borehole, often referred to as the gateway to hell, reached over twelve thousand meters below the Earth's surface.
It seemed that a path had been carved leading to the Underworld; on the other hand, a series of mysterious events had been triggered by the drilling. It was said that the researchers who initially conducted the deep drilling, upon reaching a depth of twelve thousand meters, all claimed to have heard cries resembling those of tortured souls from hell.
If only one or two people had reported this, it could perhaps be dismissed as madness. However, it was everyone involved, and even the specially designed recording equipment placed there captured the same eerie sounds. Despite their general adherence to atheism, this still instilled fear in them. Coupled with the enormous human resources, materials, and financial pressure consumed by the ultra-deep drilling project, it ultimately led to its cessation. The Kola Superdeep Borehole was firmly sealed with steel and concrete.
Yun Yi was uncertain whether he would encounter a so-called gate to hell similar to what had been found at the Kola Superdeep Borehole. This uncertainty did not diminish his enthusiasm for exploration. Even if he truly faced what was termed hell, with his nearly maxed-out physical attributes from his time as Steve, along with the high Health Points provided by his level-up, Yun Yi felt confident!
Returning to the Water Ladder, he maintained rapid ascent with two large boxes of Yan Kuang. The numerous advantages brought by his level increase made everything seem exceptionally smooth. Even the speed of ascent within the Water Elevator had slowed down. Currently, he could ascend at an incredible rate of one meter per second, which was hard for anyone to believe.
In almost the blink of an eye, the Nuclear Torch previously placed on the mine wall flashed by quickly. Despite such a high-speed ascent, traversing the kilometer-long distance still took nearly a minute. Upon re-entering the granite cavity, Yun Yi couldn't help but marvel at the thought of what it would be like when he dug down to ten thousand meters. Just going up and down the mine would take about ten minutes each time; it was simply beyond comprehension.
However, thinking about the possibility of reaching magma and using the infinite water source along with magma to create a Nether Portal as depicted in his favorite game reignited Yun Yi's excitement once more.

After transferring all the stone blocks he had previously gathered to the Storage Box beside the white bed, Yun Yi once again ventured deep into the narrow and long tunnel. However, this time, he descended much faster than before.
