In the dark corner, a vague figure emerged, a shadowy guard standing quietly beside him.
"Do you really want to kill him?" The voice was cold, laced with a palpable sense of menace.
The guard shot a disgruntled glance at the speaker.
"Uncle, aren't you being a bit too ruthless? This is someone worth valuing—loyal and capable. Trust me, I can handle him."
He admired John; there were hardly any who could train soldiers like he could. Such talents were rare in the entire kingdom, precious gems cherished by their families. Suddenly encountering a wild John, he wouldn’t be foolish enough to kill him with a single strike.
Didn’t he mention that his older brother was named Redman?
The shadowy guard understood and quickly responded, "Are you planning to kill your brother to reclaim him? I see your point."
After speaking, the guard's figure began to fade, indicating he was looking for an opportunity to act.
"Wait!" He hurriedly called out to the guard, his forehead lined with frustration as he watched him. "Uncle Luo Sang, can you stop thinking about killing all the time? Can you use your brain for once?"
But Luo Sang didn’t grasp what he meant.
Before Luo Sang could finish speaking, he quickly changed his tone, fearing that if he didn’t clarify, Luo Sang might do something foolish again.
"Forget it; let’s pretend I didn’t say anything. You’re not suited for thinking. Just stay by my side and don’t act recklessly."
He was wary of Luo Sang’s inclination to resort to violence. Sighing inwardly, he thought that having a great strategist by his side would have been ideal—if only Luo Sang hadn’t been sent by his mother, he might have suspected him of being an undercover agent.
John arrived just in time. "Come on, help your brother drink! He can’t handle it anymore!"
Leon looked up and spotted John approaching, waving him over.
Since he was called for drinks, there was no escaping it. He plopped down between the two and took a hearty gulp from his cup.
"Hahaha! Good! That’s the spirit! Down it goes! Redman, look at your little brother; John can drink better than you! Here’s to you, big brother!"
Baron Leon wasn’t one to hold back either; he raised his cup in response.
John quickly intervened. "Slow down there, big brother! Let me have a bite first. You can’t just make me drink right away!"
As the banquet concluded, John added, "Let’s drink again when we have time tomorrow! Farewell for now!"
John and Redman leaned against the wall, exchanging drunken pleasantries with other nobles as they chatted amiably.
After watching the others leave, they climbed into the carriage with the help of a servant.
As soon as they entered the compartment, John and Redman dropped their drunken act, the haze of alcohol evaporating from their faces in an instant.
"You're acting too, aren't you?" John asked, noticing Redman's sudden change.
Redman picked up a damp cloth that had been prepared in the carriage and wiped his face. "Of course! If I didn’t pretend to be drunk and throw up, those old geezers would have poured even more liquor down my throat."
While explaining, Redman also instructed the servant outside. "Drive slowly; I want to enjoy the evening breeze."
"Maybe you should skip the breeze; it's easy to catch a chill," John advised, trying to steer him away from his whims.
