John did not directly respond but instead questioned the two of them. He was curious about what kind of business they were conducting in various towns.
The Oreo Knight spoke first, explaining that they were all trying to make a living in the commercial towns under Marquis Duvas, forming a caravan to trade in Blink County, while their families sold various goods in the commercial town. The Great Noble's territory was not contiguous; it consisted of many separate lands, with some areas being just a few isolated cities. However, one should not underestimate these cities, as each was a significant source of commercial taxes, and the tax revenue was unimaginable.
(There were still places meant to keep an eye on the vassals within each territory.)
"Are you interested in joining my older brother's ship?" John smiled at the two.
The Oreo Knight asked, "Is it the White Family?"
"No, no," John shook his head; he wasn't referring to the White Family. "It's not the White Family; it's my older brother, Redman White Baron. Are you interested?"
The two did not respond, but their expressions suggested they were not impressed by Redman, this emerging Baron.
Eamon, wanting to spare his brother Oreo Knight from embarrassment, spoke up directly. "Knight John, you know your brother is called a Baron, but he only has one Transcendent Knight under him. As for half-step Transcendent Knights, I don’t know what kind of strength your Salty Fish Village possesses, but Binhai Town probably has no more than six."
"You should know that our group has six Transcendent Knights and ten half-step Transcendent Knights." (Some families had not yet sent all their next generation.)
"Is that so? I don’t believe you’re that strong. I'm curious how you can guarantee that your family will always have heirs to inherit the title without a territory. I recall there’s a rule stating that among two generations of heirs, at least one must be a Transcendent Knight to maintain noble status."
John's words struck a chord with the two. Without sufficient resources, most Virtual Knights could only maintain their titles for two generations; by the third generation, they would be forced to relinquish their titles due to insufficient strength.
Just like now with the Seventeen Families—why are there only six Transcendent Knights? Isn’t it because the other eleven families lack the resources to cultivate more Transcendent Knights?
John continued to press his advantage. "If any business fails, who knows how long it will take for you to recover?"
The two exchanged glances, speechless.
Seeing that the conversation was going well, John began to entice them. "If you join my brother's camp, you should know that my brother has no knights under him, and Binhai Town is quite substantial. There are Nineteen Villages beneath it."
Before John could finish his sentence, the two already understood; according to custom, Redman would at least allocate eight of those Nineteen Villages as fiefs for knights.
I considered the proposal from Oreo Knight but did not respond immediately, lost in thought. Oreo Knight was not in a hurry, but Aemonke beside him could hardly wait. After all, his son was struggling to break through to the Half-Step Transcendent due to insufficient resources, and he didn’t want to lose everything he had fought for over a title.
“Brother!” Oreo Knight pressed down on the excited Eamon and bowed respectfully to John. “I would appreciate it if Knight John could make an introduction.”
Quickly helping him up, John smiled and agreed. “Of course, of course. You might be one of us in the future. Don’t worry, I’ll speak to my brother about it. But are you sure the others in your team will agree?”
Oreo Knight replied decisively, “Don’t worry, they will listen to me.”
“Alright then, just wait here for a moment. Here are two oranges for you to enjoy in the meantime.”
After placing the oranges down, John hurried over to chat with the two Barons, making small talk with Redman. He strolled leisurely to Redman’s side, bending down slightly to speak quietly in his ear.
