When they set out, it was merely a small team of fifty people. However, upon their return, they had transformed into a formidable force of four hundred!
In order to support such a large number of serfs, John had to hustle once more. He hurried to the Yodel Trading Company, and after some bargaining, successfully purchased ten spacious and sturdy wagons, filling them to the brim with food supplies.
At that moment, twenty-eight fully loaded wagons moved like a winding dragon, marching grandly alongside the four hundred people on their way home. They slowly advanced along the muddy road, soaked by rain, with the wheels sinking deeply into the slick earth, producing dull thudding sounds.
Every soldier in the convoy was filled with high spirits, each wielding brand new sharp weapons and clad in shining, sturdy armor. The mountains of food piled high in the wagons showcased the immense strength of Salty Fish Village. Following a lord like John, who was both brave and visionary, everyone felt hopeful and optimistic about their future.
John rode leisurely on a somewhat scrawny nag, moving at an unhurried pace in the center of the procession. Yes, it was indeed a nag!
In this world, warhorses were not easily acquired. To be classified as a warhorse meant that the horse itself needed to possess a certain degree of Beast Bloodline; some exceptionally high-quality warhorses had even reached the Half-Step Transcendent level!
Because of this, it was rare to find warhorses on the market. Faced with such circumstances, even John, now a lord in his own right, could only helplessly choose to ride an ordinary nag.
Three days passed quietly as John continued on his journey. With such a large convoy, no fool dared to provoke them. During these days, John seemed to find a sense of leisure akin to an outing. He led a group of lovely maids who occasionally dug up tender wild vegetables or picked colorful mushrooms. When they stumbled upon a lush bamboo grove, they eagerly unearthed some plump and delicious winter bamboo shoots.
Surrounded by these charming young women, John found himself reluctant to leave and lost in joy. He sincerely wished time could freeze at that moment so that this beauty could remain forever in his heart.
"Master, here are the freshly washed wild grapes; please have a taste!" Suddenly, a clear and melodious voice broke through his reverie.
John looked down at the sound and saw a blonde maid beside his nag stretching out her arm to present him with a bunch of translucent purple grapes. Though she wore a thick maid's uniform, it couldn't hide her sun-kissed figure.
John slightly lowered his head and bent down to gently bite into one of the grapes. In an instant, sweet juice spread across his tongue. He playfully wrapped his lips around the maid's delicate fingers.
"Wow, it's really sweet! Thank you! Now go share it with your friends," he said with a smile as he watched her sway back toward her giggling companions.
Two more days passed.
The convoy continued along its predetermined route at a steady pace. At this moment, John sat comfortably in one of the spacious wagons. Riding on that nag had caused some discomfort beneath him; he simply couldn't resist finding a wagon to sit in instead.
