In the afternoon, one of the warriors hurriedly ran up to John, excitedly reporting, "My lord, the brick kiln has been completed!" Hearing this news, John felt a surge of joy and quickly walked over to inspect the situation.
Before him stood the newly constructed brick kiln. While it couldn't be described as exquisite, it was certainly acceptable. A tall chimney rose above, and there was an entrance about half a person's height at the front, allowing people to enter and operate easily. The interior was cleverly divided into two levels: the lower level was specifically designed for placing charcoal to provide a continuous high temperature, while the upper space could be used to hold various items that needed to be fired.
"Not bad! It actually resembles what I described earlier," John couldn't help but marvel. He had originally thought that these people had limited capabilities and would only be able to construct a building of about ten square meters at most. However, the structure before him was nearly thirty square meters in size, which truly surprised him.
Looking at such a large furnace, John turned to glance at the materials he had prepared earlier and couldn't help but wonder, "It seems like I might be a bit short on materials."
After some contemplation, he decided that he needed to prepare a bit more. He waved his hand at his subordinates and called out, "You two come here and dig up some sand from the beach for me. Remember, it has to be fine sand!"
Once he arranged for two people to go dig for sand, John set off alone towards the kitchen.
To create glass, in addition to the essential fine sand, limestone and an alkaline substance were also required. As for this alkaline substance, if conditions permitted, it could be extracted from seawater; of course, purified plant ash would also be a viable option.
As a chef, how could there possibly be a lack of Baking Soda in the kitchen? After all, Baking Soda is indeed an alkaline substance.
Everyone worked together diligently, carefully tossing basket after basket of shiny black coal into the lower chamber. Next, they hurriedly brought in large quantities of sea sand and repeatedly washed it in a large vat filled with clean water.
Once the sea sand was cleaned, they used a massive stone mill to grind it into a fine powder. Then they all took shovels and evenly poured the snow-white limestone (which was actually just shell powder) over the sand powder.
Of course, there was also the indispensable Baking Soda; if Baking Soda were unavailable, carefully filtered plant ash collected from saline-alkali land would serve as an excellent substitute.
It should be noted that if those who had crossed over were operating this process, then the sand and filtered plant ash needed to be mixed in perfect proportions!
John had completely forgotten about this crucial proportion issue. However, since he had more than enough materials prepared and the furnace was spacious enough, he boldly decided to experiment with various combinations of different proportions.
He quickly filled several sturdy metal buckets with different ratios of materials. Once everything was ready, someone ignited a roaring fire. As the flames grew stronger and temperatures rose higher, a marvelous and astonishing chemical reaction unfolded within those iron buckets.
At this moment, John waved his hand and shouted loudly, "Quick! Find some large stones to seal this entrance; let it burn slowly inside!"
Upon hearing his command, everyone sprang into action and soon brought over heavy boulders to securely block the entrance. After completing this task, John turned to those nearby and instructed them firmly, "You all keep a close watch here; absolutely no one is allowed near!"
At that moment, aside from his loyal subordinates who were completely devoted to him, John truly dared not trust anyone else easily!
