As the team continued their journey, drawing closer to the front lines, the speed of the White Family's convoy began to slow. Friendly troops occasionally appeared on either side of the road. As a representative of the noble Redman family, they often invited the opposing commanders to dine together. This was also a pretext to slow their pace; after all, the longer they took, the more unclaimed territory they could traverse. However, they couldn't afford to be too slow—maintaining a pace of twenty to thirty miles a day was sufficient. 0

"John, add another plate of shredded pork in Beijing sauce and one of braised pork. We've got a few more guests arriving," said a voice. 0

John replied irritably, "Got it. Just bring that dish up first." He called over Johnny and Joseph to help with the preparations, wielding his iron spatula with practiced ease while his other hand deftly maneuvered the Iron Pot, making his arms appear exceptionally muscular. 0

Once all the dishes were finally cooked, John took a moment to catch his breath. He wiped the sweat from his brow with his neck cloth and let it drop to the floor, collapsing into a chair. "I can't move anymore." 0

In the first couple of days, it had been manageable with just a few guests for dinner, but recently things had spiraled out of control. He didn't know why there were suddenly twenty or thirty people at each meal. These knights and their attendants were insatiable eaters—each one consuming as much as seven or eight robust men. He had already broken several ladles in frustration. 0

John felt that this work was even more exhausting than before when he had been laboring like a beast of burden. At least in his previous life, he could take breaks; here, if he messed up a dish, it could mean serious consequences. His arms felt like they were gaining strength without needing any professional training. 0

"John! Another dish! A guest ordered spicy chicken!" 0

"Little John, why are you lounging in that chair?" Lai De Wen entered the kitchen and saw three people sprawled out in exhaustion. 0

Upon seeing Lai De Wen, John leaped up as if he had seen family and grabbed his sleeve, tears streaming down his face. "My lord! You finally came! Why haven't you checked on me these past few days?" 0

"Hey now, what are you doing? John, aren't you getting a bit too familiar?" Lai De Wen replied with irritation; how could a mere cook dare to tug at his sleeve? 0

Realizing he might have overstepped, John quickly released him. "My lord, you don't understand! Since you haven't been here, there’s no one I can talk to about Lord Redman. Everyone's been so busy." 0

Lai De Wen understood now; John must be facing difficulties. It wouldn’t do to scold him for being overwhelmed in the kitchen. 0

"What happened?" Lai De Wen asked. 0

"My lord, you have no idea! In recent days, we've had too many guests—sometimes over fifty! And you know how much these guests eat; each one consumes as much as eight or nine people." 0

"Mm," Lai De Wen nodded. 0

"When I add it all up, I have to prepare meals for four hundred people every day! There are only three of us in the kitchen! To cook all this food, I've had to switch from using ladles to using shovels!" 0

"What?! A shovel?!" Lai De Wen exclaimed in shock. "How can you use a digging shovel for cooking?" 0

John hurriedly explained, "You can rest assured that it's clean. We’ve all used new utensils and wiped them down with alcohol." 0

"Ah, now that you mention it, I feel much better," Lai De Wen gestured for him to continue. 0

John cautiously voiced his request, "Could you send a few more people to the kitchen? Otherwise, by tomorrow, none of us will be able to lift our arms. It's one thing if we can't lift our arms, but it's another if it delays Lord Redman's banquet." 0

Lai De Wen nodded, indicating that he understood. 0

"Just focus on cooking for now. I’ll speak with the lord shortly. Oh, and remember to make half of the spicy chicken extra spicy and the other half mildly spicy." 0

What else could John say at this point? He picked up the shovel to stir-fry. How was it that even in this other world, he still felt like a mere beast of burden? 0
