"Stop!" A chilling voice slithered into Park Bucheng's ears like a snake's hiss. "Brother Li has changed his mind..."
Park Bucheng's heart sank, plummeting into an icy abyss. Damn it, these bastards! His breath quickened again, and cold sweat soaked through his shirt. The cat-and-mouse game was far from over; in fact, it had just begun. The chaotic footsteps grew louder, like the relentless beat of a death drum, pounding on his nerves. Behind him, at least seven or eight pursuers were hot on his heels, like hungry wolves.
"Damn it, these bastards!" Park Bucheng spat vehemently but dared not hesitate as he sprinted down the dimly lit corridor. He felt as if his lungs were about to burst, and his legs felt heavy as if filled with lead. Amidst the frantic movement, his bothersome black-framed glasses slipped down to the tip of his nose, blurring his vision and distorting the world before him.
"Chase him down! Don’t let this kid escape!" The roar of the Bald Man echoed through the corridor, making Park Bucheng’s eardrums buzz. The voice was filled with bloodthirsty rage that sent chills down his spine.
His mind raced as Park Bucheng desperately recalled the layout of the corridor. A left turn led to a dead end; a right turn led to the back door, but that door was surely guarded. These people clearly intended for him not to leave alive. Surrounded and trapped! Was he really going to meet his end here today?
In despair, a flash of that mysterious book, "Graceful Wave Steps," crossed his mind. In this life-and-death moment, he had no choice but to take a gamble! A warm current surged from his dantian, spreading throughout his body. Suddenly, his steps became light as if the wind had lifted him; he moved with an ethereal grace, tracing elegant arcs through the air.
"What the hell? This kid knows lightness skill?" One of the pursuers exclaimed in disbelief. They had never seen such an uncanny movement technique before; they stood there dumbfounded as if they had seen a ghost.
With the boost from "Graceful Wave Steps," Park Bucheng leaped effortlessly onto a beam in the corridor. Crouching there, he watched as the pursuers scurried below like headless flies, and a sense of satisfaction welled up within him. Damn it, let them taste what it feels like to be toyed with!
"Split up! He must still be nearby!" The Bald Man waved his hand in frustration, and the pursuers divided into two teams to search in opposite directions.
Park Bucheng held his breath, clinging tightly to the beam like a gecko, remaining perfectly still. He listened as the footsteps gradually faded away before daring to exhale softly. Once he was sure they had completely disappeared, he carefully dropped down and prepared to make his escape.
"Ha, hiding here?" A chilling voice came from behind him, nearly making Park Bucheng's heart leap out of his throat.
He spun around abruptly to see a thug with mutton chops brandishing a baseball bat, grinning menacingly as he approached. The mutton chops were thick and brutish-looking, and his fierce gaze made it clear he was no pushover.
"I say brother, let’s talk this out..." Park Bucheng raised both hands in a show of submission while quickly calculating his next move in his mind.
"Good talk? You stole money from the gang and still expect a good talk?" Mutton Chops didn't buy it at all. He raised the Baseball Bat, ready to bring it down.
In a split second, Park Bucheng's eyes sharpened. He lightly tapped his foot and slipped through Mutton Chops's armpit like a wisp of smoke. Mutton Chops swung the bat but missed, losing his balance and nearly falling over.
"You motherf..." Just as Mutton Chops was about to curse, Park Bucheng struck like lightning, delivering a powerful elbow to the back of his neck. The blow was precise, and Mutton Chops's vision went dark as he collapsed unconscious.
"Thanks, brother. I'll borrow your Baseball Bat." Park Bucheng picked up the bat, weighing it in his hands and finding it quite comfortable.
At that moment, hurried footsteps echoed from the end of the corridor. Not good—more people were coming! Park Bucheng quickly hid around the corner, holding his breath and preparing for battle.
"It sounds like something's happening over here!" someone shouted.
Park Bucheng gripped the Baseball Bat tightly, cold sweat forming in his palms. He knew he couldn't avoid this fight.
Three thugs rushed around the corner and were shocked to see Mutton Chops lying unconscious on the ground. "Damn it, A Hu has been knocked out!"
Park Bucheng seized the opportunity and swung the bat horizontally. The thugs were caught off guard; two of them were knocked down immediately. The third reacted quickly and threw a punch straight at Park Bucheng's face.
With Graceful Wave Steps in action again, Park Bucheng easily dodged while delivering a precise strike with the Baseball Bat to the thug's knee. There was a sharp crack, and the thug screamed as he fell to the ground, clutching his knee in agony.
"Sorry about that, gentlemen." Park Bucheng looked at the moaning thugs on the ground and shrugged helplessly.
Suddenly, he heard whispers coming from the next room. Park Bucheng pressed against the wall, straining to listen closely.
"This madman Li Zhenghao actually wants to swallow up East District's territory..."
"Yes, he colluded with the Americans, trying to make a big move..."
"Shh, keep your voice down. If this gets out..."
Park Bucheng's eyes lit up; this was big news! It seemed that Li Zhenghao not only wanted to stir up trouble within the Gangster but also had connections with the Americans.
Just as he was thinking, a sharp shout came from behind him: "We found him!"
Park Bucheng turned around to see Bald Man blocking the corridor with a group of thugs. They were all armed, wielding steel pipes, machetes, and even someone pulled out a gun.
"Kid, you can't escape!" Bald Man sneered, a vicious glint in his eyes.
Park Bucheng glanced out the window and then at his pursuers, suddenly breaking into a brilliant smile. "Gentlemen, until we meet again!"
With that, he spun around and activated Graceful Wave Steps, dashing toward the window like a phantom. The sound of shattering glass echoed as Park Bucheng's figure vanished into the night.
"Damn! Chase after him!" Bald Man rushed to the window but only saw Park Bucheng leaping gracefully in the moonlight, disappearing into the depths of the alley in an instant.
Park Bucheng ran several blocks before stopping to catch his breath, ensuring no one was following him. Leaning against a wall, he recalled the conversation he had just overheard, a glimmer of intelligence flashing in his eyes.
"Li Zhenghao, oh Li Zhenghao, you have something on me now." A cold smile crept across Park Bucheng's lips. "This game has only just begun..."
At that moment, his phone vibrated suddenly. A message from an unknown number appeared: "I heard you're also dissatisfied with Li Zhenghao? How about we have a chat..."
