The faint scent of mint floated in the summer night air. Although it was nearing midnight, there were still many tourists on the street. After a satisfying meal, five of them strolled along, rubbing their round bellies, while a hotel car followed them from a distance.
"Yan Kongyue, when are we leaving this place?" one of them asked.
"Since we’re already here, let’s take a look around. Who knows if we might find something we need!" After saying this, Yan Kongyue shook her head helplessly. "I really don’t know if all these strange events have happened since I arrived or if they were already happening before."
"They must have been happening already; we just never encountered them. I remember when I came here to shoot a film two years ago, I heard there was a river with water ghosts or something like that. At the time, none of us believed it!" Lin Lang glanced at Yan Kongyue and continued, "Actually, I'm not that materialistic; I just haven’t seen anything and don’t believe this world has ghosts!"
Yan Kongyue successfully ignored the rest of Lin Lang's words and grabbed her arm, asking, "Water ghosts?"
"Yeah, two years ago when I was here filming a TV series, I stayed for nearly ten months. It was only in the last two months that someone from the crew mentioned that every summer, several people die in Cui He."
"Is that river wide?"
"Yes, Cui He runs through the entire Yu Bei region. There are seventeen bridges connecting both banks of the river; even the shortest bridge is about eight or nine hundred meters long. Strangely enough, every summer people jump off different bridges to commit suicide, and none survive. Even those who bravely jumped in to save others didn’t make it back to shore. Over time, people started saying there are water ghosts in the river."
"With so many deaths, it would be strange if there weren’t any water ghosts! Let’s go check it out!"
"Let’s take a car; Cui He is quite far from here."
"What about other times?" Huo Jingyu chimed in eagerly.
"There aren’t many other times; occasionally someone jumps into the river, but comparatively speaking, summer sees more incidents. I remember that summer when the government even sent armed police to guard the bridges to prevent suicides. Still, some people jumped without hesitation."
"I feel like these people might not all want to commit suicide; they could be enchanted by water ghosts!"
"The car is here!" Lin Qian put down her phone and waved at the vehicle behind them.
"Let’s get in!"
After they all boarded the car, Huo Jingyu sat in the front passenger seat and asked the driver, "Master, is it far from here to Cui He?"
"Not far—about ten kilometers. There aren’t many cars on the road right now; we should get there quickly!"
"Alright then, let’s head to Cui He!"
"Which bridge are you planning to go to?"
"The one where most people jump off!"
The driver replied, "Then we’ll go to Tongda Bridge. That bridge is famous for the Jumping Bridge Incident in Yu Bei. Wow, it's so well-known that even tourists know about it?"
"Excuse me, may I ask how worth visiting this tourist city is? Why do you want to go to the place with the most bridge jumps at Cui He?"
Huo Jingyu smiled mysteriously, "We are Professional Ghost Hunters. I heard there are water ghosts in Cui He, and we want to check it out!"
"Catch ghosts!" The driver instinctively glanced in the rearview mirror. Seeing that the others were calm and showed no signs of surprise or panic, he couldn't tell if Huo Jingyu was serious or joking.
"Master, if you're scared, just find a suitable place to stop at the bridgehead!"
"Sir, you’re all so young and staying in the presidential suite of the Sky Hotel. I imagine your family background is quite impressive, so please don't think—"
"Master, you misunderstood. We really just want to take a look up there. You'll see soon!"
