"Fourth Brother, can you use a sword?"
"Yes, I learned when I was filming before, as the plot required!"
Yan Kongyue merely hummed in response and tossed him a sword.
"What about Huo Jingyu?"
"What do you have?"
"Do you think this is a supermarket?"
"Then give me a knife!"
With a clang, Yan Kongyue threw a knife to Huo Jingyu, who let it fall to the ground.
"Too much?" Yan Kongyue asked in surprise.
"No, no, it's just that I didn't expect you to throw it over; I didn't catch it!" Huo Jingyu hoisted the large knife onto his shoulder and scratched his head with one hand.
"Let's go. If anything attacks you later, just chop it down!" Yan Kongyue slung his bag over his shoulder and led the way out, the mist dissipating wherever they passed.
"There’s a city gate ahead!" Huo Jingyu dared not stray from the group and jogged a few steps before returning.
"Could Lin Qian have entered the city?"
"He probably didn’t go in voluntarily; he wouldn’t leave the group on his own. He might have been caught off guard and taken!" Yan Kongyue's tone seemed calm, but Feng Xing knew he was angry.
"What kind of place is this?!"
"If I’m not mistaken, this should be Jiuyin City. Legend has it that two thousand years ago, there was a Witch Mute Tribe. In that tribe lived a powerful high priest named Jiu Ming. He was originally just a beggar on the streets until the previous high priest took him in and taught him the unique secret arts of the Witch Mute Tribe. Due to his special constitution, he was particularly suited for practicing these arts and reached his master’s level in just a few short years."
"When he was in his twenties, his master died, and he inherited the position of high priest. However, many years later, while Jiu Ming was out, the imperial court sent troops to besiege the tribe. With less than a thousand people left in the tribe, the court used thirty thousand soldiers to massacre the Witch Mute Tribe."
"Growing up in that small tribe, having shared meals and clothes with everyone, he felt their kindness deeply. Watching those people die tragically turned him dark; overnight he killed everyone in the military camp and imprisoned all their souls using witchcraft. He built a city and named it Jiuyin City."
"He then brought that city into the abyss of time and space, appearing once every ten years with an unpredictable duration of stay. However, within a hundred miles radius, everything and everyone would be taken away—houses would vanish without a trace."
"Ah, I've heard my father talk about it; Jiuyin City is like a ticking time bomb that threatens many people. Before I left home, I heard that Jiuyin City had appeared again. When they rushed there with ghostly soldiers and generals, Jiuyin City had already disappeared."
By this time, Yan Kongyue and the others had reached under the city gate. The thick stone walls and sturdy ancient gate exuded an eerie charm.
"Hmph! Anyone who dares to touch my people is truly tired of living!" Yan Kongyue raised his foot and kicked at the city gate.
With a flash of golden light and a loud crash, the massive gate fell with a resounding thud.
Huo Jingyu stood there, mouth agape, as if turned to stone.
"Let's go!" Lin Lang clapped Huo Jingyu on the shoulder and strode into the city. He was angry; who dared to touch his brother? Was there no one left in the Lin Family?
Snap! Yan Kongyue snapped his fingers, and a beam of golden light instantly sealed the city gate. They couldn't let anything escape from inside.
"Yan Kongyue, will just sealing the gate be enough?" Huo Jingyu glanced at the city walls, implying what would happen if a ghost floated out.
Yan Kongyue shot a glance back at Huo Jingyu. "If there's a gate, then it proves they must use it to leave. There must be restrictions; otherwise, why build the city walls?"
