In the hospital room, joyful cries mingled with warm tears that flowed freely. With eyes full of admiration, they looked at Yan Kongyue. Although she hadn’t witnessed the rescue herself, the fact remained that Yan Kongyue had saved their captain's wife, a woman they all believed would never wake up again. Yet here she was, awake and smiling as she greeted them.
Yan Xiao Jun knew he had important matters to attend to and didn’t linger too long. They had plenty of time ahead of them, and he would cherish the days they spent together, especially since he had almost lost the woman he loved.
After bidding farewell to his girlfriend, Yan Xiao Jun left the hospital room, standing before Yan Kongyue with red-rimmed eyes. He bowed deeply and said, “Thank you, Yan Consultant. If it weren’t for you…”
“It was just a small effort on my part. If you’re done talking, can we leave now?”
“Indeed, I can’t thank you enough. In the future, if you need anything from me, please don’t hesitate to ask!” He understood that with Yan Kongyue’s capabilities, she likely wouldn’t need his help, but his words were sincere; the debt of saving a life was greater than anything else.
Yan Kongyue didn’t refuse him or mock his humility; instead, she graciously accepted his gratitude, which made Yan Xiao Jun feel much more at ease.
“Let’s go!”
“Yan Consultant, where are we headed now?”
“It’s getting dark. We need to find that creature's hiding place. After midnight, it will be the first day of the month. We have to eliminate it before it claims another victim!”
In the seven-seater business vehicle filled to capacity, Yan Kongyue turned to Feng Xing and asked, “Do you have a general direction?”
Feng Xing pursed her lips and shot a glance at Yan Kongyue. “Auntie, aren’t you being a bit rude?”
“Of course not! You’re coming along because I want you here. No, you should go back to the hotel!”
Feng Xing gave Yan Kongyue a wounded look. “Oh dear me! Here I am, a child without a grandmother or an uncle’s love, and my aunt won’t even help me out!”
“Enough chatter! Go back to the hotel; I’ll have General Song look for it!”
“Don’t! I know you have your ways, but don’t you prefer to squeeze me for all I’m worth? Come on then, keep squeezing! I’m all for it!” She laughed heartily.
“Captain Yan, northwest direction! Let’s move!” Feng Xing waved her hand dramatically.
“Northwest? That should be Qu Ming Mountain. If I remember correctly, there’s a Taoist temple there.” Warmth murmured as she took out her phone to check the map.
“See? I told you I was right! There really is a temple!”
“Of course there is!” Feng Xing crossed her arms over her chest and raised her chin proudly.
“Why is that?” Warmth looked at Feng Xing with admiration.
Feng Xing met her gaze and instinctively shrank back slightly. “That creature needs to absorb human souls every first and fifteenth day of the month. Have you ever wondered why it has to do so at specific times? It’s because someone is maintaining it through a formation; absorbing souls strengthens it further for ritual refinement.”
“Oh, that’s complicated!” Warmth said as she brushed her hair back; she understood now.
"Then why would someone do that?" Huo Jingyu asked innocently.
Yan Kongyue glanced at him and sighed, "It's because they're up to no good. They've already killed someone; do you really think it was just to do a job?"
"But our Ghost Guardian still saves people!"
"Are you an idiot?" Lin Qian couldn't hold back any longer and slapped Huo Jingyu on the neck. "Whether raising a ghost to do something is bad or not depends on the intentions of the one who raises it. Would you let your Ghost Guardian kill someone?"
