However, every firefighter attempting to rush into the bar was pushed back by an unseen force.
"Captain, what's going on?"
"Try going around from that side!"
One firefighter circled to the other side of the steps, but as he ascended two stairs, he was lifted by Chu Ling and gently placed back where he had just stood.
"Firefighter! A man rushed out from the bar and stood in the middle of the crowd, tiptoeing to shout forward.
"What’s happening?" Firefighter Captain Qiu He felt anxious as he couldn’t enter the fire scene, but he maintained a gentle tone when addressing the public.
The man squeezed forward and waved at Qiu He.
Qiu He took a few steps closer, tilting his head naturally to bring his ear nearer to the man.
"Just now, while we were inside, we saw a few ghosts guiding people out of the bar," the man recounted.
"You mean to say that some ghosts showed you the way out?" Qiu He asked while glancing at the crowd on either side, surprised yet keeping his voice steady.
"Yes! When the alarm went off, hundreds of people inside panicked. If those ghosts hadn’t guided us, we wouldn’t have known where to hide!"
"That's right, I saw it too!" someone nearby chimed in quietly.
"Exactly! Those ghosts were so tall and scary, but they didn’t harm anyone. Even though they looked fierce, I knew deep down they were there to help." Another person joined in, gesturing to indicate the height of the Ghost Guardians while trying not to speak too loudly.
"Yes, yes! If it weren't for that ghost, I wouldn't have known I was running in the wrong direction." The front row outside the cordon all began to speak up.
"I feel like they must have been afraid you would be in danger if you went inside, which is why they blocked the door!" said the first man again.
"So you're saying there are ghosts guarding this entrance?" Qiu He asked.
"What else could it be?"
"Exactly! Look at that door wide open; you’ve been struggling for ages and still can’t get in. There must be someone—uh, I mean, some ghosts blocking it!" A woman finally interjected after anxiously wanting to speak earlier.
Then several others around began to chime in as well; they hadn’t left because they were waiting for results. At first, they thought they might have been mistaken; it was possible to see things differently when frightened or panicked. But hearing so many voices affirming their experiences made them express that they too had seen ghosts and that those ghosts hadn’t harmed anyone.
If only one person had said it, it wouldn’t have seemed credible at all; however, with everyone speaking up, Qiu He began to waver in his belief.
He picked up his walkie-talkie, preparing to report back to his superiors but hesitated, worried that his leaders might not believe him. Just then, Public Security Director Gu Zhenhua and Security Bureau Director Zhao Tianyi arrived with leaders from the fire department.
Lin Zhuo had notified Gu Zhenhua and Zhao Tianyi before setting off, instructing them to wait for signals at the bar's entrance.
Seeing their appearance, Lin Zhuo gave Feng Xing a glance. Feng Xing summoned Chu Ling back with his mind. Lin Zhuo spoke into the phone, addressing Gu Zhenhua on the other end: "Gu Dad, you can go in now!"
"Remember, make sure to collect the evidence on the windowsill in the backstage!"
"Got it!" Gu Zhenhua hung up the phone.
"Xiao Qiu, what's the situation now?"
"Gu Ju, Zhao Ju, Captain Lin, our people can't get in!"
"Let's go take a look!"
